I know you can get post-natal depression but is there such a thing as pre-natal depression :( my mood swings are so violent im getting whiplash too !

It is possible yes and if you are feeling down get to the GP better to get it acknowledged sooner rather than later.

Yay! Nursery stickers are finally up! :j:T:beer: Took a lot of bickering between Moon and I as we both have completely different ways of doing things, and years of doing school displays has meant that I have a pretty good eye for when things are straight (he doesn't seem to have this ability), and I'm a perfectionist, but we got there in the end. We had quite a few stickers left over, but I've put one on each of the drawers, and 2 on the end of the cot and they look great and tie it all together. Won't post pictures yet, as I want to do that in a couple of weeks when I've washed and put the bedding on so that it's completed (again the perfectionist/control-freak in me). I think Moon is relieved it's all over, as he's had to move the cotbed a few times so that I can get to bits of the wall, as bump was too big to lean over the cot to reach. He's also had to hold planks of wood along the wall and do measuring to find the centre of the wall etc for me. :D We only used one pack as well, so we'll keep the other pack as a spare in case any get peeled off or ruined, or in case we move house and can't get the original ones off etc.

mishka depression in pregnancy is definitely possible - my Mum was asking me a few weeks back if I was depressed (I had depression as a teenager which is a very big hormonal adjustment), but although I was exhibiting some of the symptoms, I think that in my case it was because I was feeling so ill all the time and I didn't feel very supported that was getting me down this time round, rather than it being depression. I was put on medication to make me feel physically better (digestive problems and anaemia), and Moon and I went to antenatal classes that brought us closer together so I felt more supported, and I seem to have snapped back to my normal self again now which is good. Definitely talk to your GP though - you may find that talking to them may be just what you need or that you can get counselling rather than having to take medication if you're worried about that (I know there are antidepressants that are safe in pregnancy though if this is the route that's right for you).

KatyLiz I don't think I'd be capable of studying at the same time as being pregnant (although I did teach up until the end of July), as I really noticed that apart from the feeling ill, that baby brain and tiredness really affected me (I teach primary and I was having to really think hard about calculations in maths, and seemed to have lost half of my vocabulary when it came to literacy). I suppose it depends on how your body reacts to being pregnant - I've found the end of my pregnancy has brought back the tiredness.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

morocha I had the nuchal fold test and blood test - I think it took a couple of weeks for the results to come through.

  • KatyLiz I did the last module of my degree and finished in June. I found it hard to concentrate, I think knowing it was the last module and found baby stuff more interesting. How much actual work would you have to do? My module was intense and needed lots of reading, writing diaries as well as essays etc as well as full time work so I struggled. I guess another thing is whether two weeks off is going to be enough to have baby and get back into studying mode. A year does seem a long time, but if the baby sleeps well and it's not too hard a subject then it's possible especially if you've got a supportive hubby.

Mishkayes there is hun. Are there any triggers that make you upset or does it creep up on you? I did get an image of you swinging a man like an althete doing hammer when I read about whiplash! GP/midwife should be able to help. How is everything with your son? I know it's the holidays but did he get referred to the hospital? Do you think that worry might be contributing? Huge hugs hun xxx

If it is the same as the nuchal fold and blood test I had mine through the post a couple of weeks later first time and second time my midwife called me 3 days later to let me know. Panicked that she was calling me but it was still good news.

No, my hospital does not offer that one, triple screening is done from 16 till 18 weeks, this is it
A triple screen is a blood test that measures three things called alpha-fetoprotein, human chorionic gonadotropin and unconjugated estriol.

  • Mishka - like the others have said, it may be worth having a chat with your mw or your GP. Also, feel free to chat to us if there's anything bothering you, no matter how small/irrelevant it may seem to you. Sometimes, just letting it all out helps :) we're here for you if you need us!

KatyLiz - I know this may sound daft but I always do a list of pros and cons when I'm really stuck and find it really helpful. I don't look into how many things I have on each column per se, but I look into how I feel about those things if that makes sense. Let us know what you decide!

Mishka - definitely speak to your doctor or midwife if you are feeling depressed. Ante natal depression is very real and you don't want to ignore it. Has the worry over baby's growth made you feel more down? Hugs to you.

sexymouse - well done on completing the nursery, looking forward to pics when its totally sorted :) And I know what you mean about baby brain, my sentences aren't always grammatically correct anymore and I can hardly concentrate when I read. I suppose that's another thing to consider.

morocha - I've only had the same as everyone else this time, but when I had my daughter I had the triple screening at 16 weeks. It's a long time ago now, so I can't remember exactly, but I'm sure I didn't wait long.

  • Argh, how have I got to number 9 with only 9 days to go?! Eek! ate a whole pineapple this morning and did get a few BH me thinks, rest of day I've spent doing work for my new job so feeling a bit better about that as it's brand new course so we are setting everything up...!

so, let me try and remember everything people have said, hmm, could be a toughie! kittenpie, how many weeks are you now, are they still talking induction? my next midwife appt is next friday, when I'll be 40+2 and the last 2 appts have been with different midwives as mine is on holiday so wondering what will happen at 40 and 2? would be lovely not to be there and have mummy cuddles but who knows, first tmer and a boy means everyone keeps telling me mean things about going overdue... grr. anyway, glad you said the thing about pee/sweat/waters kp, i have been the same!

tomorrow we have breastfeeding workshop and then final antenatal classes on weds when i will be 39 weeks. there will be literally be nothing to do til baby gets here then, any recommendations? nursery done and baby clothes washed from newborn and 0-3 months... what to do?

I wish i was on holiday in Italy, anywhere really! hubs is off though as uni not back til end of sep so has been nice having him here, apart from when he tells me how bored he is!

My husband proposed to me on a week away nr the lakes and we went to ulverston, hotel was in kents bank, but i loved all the countryside there. have you ever been to south lakes animal park? everytime we talk about animal parks, he mentions it :)

sa-ra-ra, I'm late but so pleased to see you reached viability day, it made things seem abit more real for me, but I am so odd that I remember being paranoid when getting to 34 weeks as I thought that was when dizzi had gone into labour - speaking of which, yay to see you back, hope the scan is all good. Will it be easy to get to another hospital?

rjh, hope you are doing well, with 2 days to go and your 2nd and being bigger bump measured, I thought you'd have boy by now! but maybe we'll be in heath at same time :)

that's it, reachied my limit, can't remember - ooh no, jwiwl, good to see you on here :) im on pay off as much as you can challenge but haven't been on there in so long, been rubbish at paying debts, eek!
