BTW can I refuse a forcep/ventouse delivery in favour of a c-section... Don't like the idea of them dragging baby out, I'd rather have a c-sect! Anyone know??
I really didn't want a forceps delivery, as I'd read so much about damage to the mother. So on my birth plan I wrote that I did not consent to the use of forceps or ventouse and if the labour got into difficulty I wanted a c-section. My Midwife read it before my due date and asked why and said I might feel differently during labour, but did not say that you had to allow them to use forceps. As far as I am aware no doctor can perform a procedure if you refuse to allow them?
In the end I had a failed induction and a c-section with no labour, but I'm sure you can refuse to give consent.0 -
Thanks Fluff for the birth story, of course we want to know! Pity it didn't go according to plan but you've got what you went in for... A baby! (V. Cute btw)
As for refusing treatment, i was thinking about that after reading the NICE guidelines and it seems you are allowed to refuse anything, which made me wonder what if someone refuses a section for (say) a bad breech or placenta praevia? Do the doctors/nurses whip out hard-ball and say they won't attend the birth in that case?0 -
Savage Jehovah's witnesses normally refuse any operation including csections, even if the result of refusal is death. Afaik the medical team have to support that decision and still try to help in line with that patients beliefs xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Morning all
Hugs to all that had a rough night. Despite not having my nap I still woke for my normal two hours between 3-5am
Fluff I am in love with Freddie, he is soooo gorgeous. Sounds like a long traumatic time, but glad you're both ok! Sounds like you were well looked after too. All this pics of gorgeous babies are making me super broody :-D
Jen you can refuse ventouse and/forceps. You can refuse any medical intervention unless drs/nurses think you don't have the mental capacity to make a proper informed decision. I'm not too keen either, they sound like some torture items and I do fancy being able to sit down afterwardsI need to start writing my birth plan etc too. You're right anything could happen, but i want to have all my ideas down in the event that everything goes to plan - you never know
I don't want to be there and the midwife says do you want this and I'm like "....er......dunno!"
Jedi welcome to maternity leave!
JJbargain welcome, especially as you bump me down the list!
SM hugs for the bad dreams, they do see so real don't they? Hope Moon didn't get a whack round the head.
RJH how's your little girl this morning, hugs for your bad back
MrsB always lovely to hear from you, I do miss it when ladies have babies and disappear!
Emsbet I can't remember what stickers you got now, but will you post piccys when you're done?I feel ok today though, thank you
LadyM glad you got to go to something fun, even if you struggled a bit. It's prob a mix of all three things making you feel worse than before. I'm finding long term conditions+pregnancy = very difficult. Were you able to take your wheelchair?
Savage it's the law that says you can refuse any medical interventions, however if you request something eg a section, the dr can argue if it's not medically indicated. If you're in a hospital and decline a section say for a breech they can't sling you out or refuse to treat you. Although I think they would really encourage you to go for the safer option. Someone a while back also pointed out a lot of staff now don't have a lot of experience in difficult births so some drs/midwives may feel out of their depth dealing with a difficult case. And that could be their argument that one procedure may be safer than another. A lot are probably worried about getting sued if something went wrong. Labour/baby lawsuits are often big money too especially if there's lasting damage to the baby. If its a home birth and you ring saying you're in labour and refusing to come to hospital they have to send somebody out. Not sure where I read that, I'm sure on a NHS site somewhere though so think its quite accurate.
Changing table we haven't got one as such. We've got a bathing trolley which has a changing mat on top. But has open shelves underneath. Bit lazy but rather than bending over the bath it's all at waist height and it's on wheels, a local Facebook bargain
Next there's not been much online for daysI've never really found much stuff for me in there. I need to go and pick up my changing bag. Ordered the polka dot one (thank you Ikkle). Forgot it was the sale today so hopefully it'll be quieter by the time I get there! I'll just run people over in my wheelchair haha!
My book came today, again thanks for pointing it out MMM
Am waiting for OH to finish work and come and get me to take me back to town. Looks miserable out there. I know I didn't want a heat wave this summer but this is ridiculous!
Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

fluffnutter Freddie is SOO cute! Sorry to hear you had to have a c-section in the end, but glad you and Freddie are doing well now. Love the little outfit he's in.
Looked in Next whilst I was in town, and there was literally about 4 hangers of baby boy things left, none of which I particularly liked or were the right sizes or greatly reduced, so I left without buying anything. I did buy myself some new trainers in the sports direct sale (reduced to 19.99 from around £60), and amused the shop assistant by not being able to reach my feet particularly well. She offered to help me put them on bless her, but I preferred to do it on my own. These ones do up with velcro so should be easier to get on and off than my current lace-ups - had to get a size 8 though as my feet are growing and swelling.
Off to eat some boiled eggs for lunch now.
Hugs to all who need or want them,

Hey LMM.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to as there is no way to get it up the stairs as there isn't a lift. The gig was in a pub with a music bit upstairs and I couldn't stand for too long so had to lean on DH for alot of it. I sat on the floor whilst the bands were changing over as it was the only place I could sit without having to go down the stairs, but I couldn't get up so that was a palaver!
Then during our fav band, I started feeling very dizzy and I'm ashamed to say I cried on my way down the stairs because I felt so horrible and I couldn't get down the stairs properly (hence almost falling down them!).
I managed to go back into the gig but then afterwards I felt worse but DH was talking to the drummer of the band so his friend came and sat with me outside, bless him!
DH let me borrow his musicians earphones which protect your ears and that helped with the noise during the gig a bit.
I haven't been to a gig in so long because of the M.E and even then the M.E was better, but it was good to get out and do something fun for a change!2019 Wins

Rebekah - the moses baskets sheets I had with DD (not planning on using one this time) were jersey, like thick t-shirt material. I think most are like that, I certainly haven't seen any plain cotton (like a shirt) type ones but they may well exist.0
