A friend of mine made one herself (she's handy that way!) which went over one shoulder and baby could lie horizontally and (for instance) breastfeed. I don't know if there are any of those available generally - I've not checked - anyone know?

Yep, you can use Babaslings like that.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

The big mat pads are best and cheapest- normal pads can catch on stitches- it is not pleasant! I used superdurg and tesco I think but they are basically the same thing in different packaging and roughly £1 a pack of 10 from memory.

You might go through them quickly though, I think I did last time.

You can get a few given to you to start with in hospital but you do need your own packs. This will depend on how long you are in there for but 2 packs is a good start anyway I reckon.

Breast pads, not even sure I took any, your milk doesn't come in till a few days after the birth anyway- then you'll need them!!

Stupid question - how many breast pads do we take to hospital?

My midwife said milk doesn't 'come in' properly until day 3 so guessing not much leakage until then?. So some people I've asked haven't needed them in hospital while others have needed to change every 2-4 hours. I'm packing 10pairs with some more in my back up bag incase I need to stay longer

I feel a bit more reassured after seeing the midwife. She is of the opinion that it's not the end of the world to have a small baby, and at this point mine is just that - another small baby, not a dangerously tiny one. As long as they keep monitoring me at least I'll know what's happening, which is the main thing at this stage. And I've been told off for stressing out, as I must stay happy for baby!

She also advised me to take plenty of drinks and snacks as well as things to do as the monitoring is incredibly boring. So I'll make sure I've got some puzzle books and reading with me next week.

Hope everyone else is having a good day. I haven't read any of the posts as I couldn't concentrate, but now I've calmed down I'll go back and catch up.

Good luck for your next scan ikkle, hope it goes well. I'll probably be having my next one at a similar time. That's lovely that you're finally getting a bit of a bump, I bet that feels good :)

Little Moog - It must be horrid being sick again, hopefully you've found the reason though and it won't happen again. Enjoy your night tonight!

rjh - I hope everything is ok.

emsbet - have a lovely weekend. It'll be interesting to see what the list ends up looking like without you :D

LMM the BBQ baby shower idea sounds lovely, nice and relaxed. Hopefully the weather will stay nice long enough for you to have one!

Breast pads/milk - I didn't leak for the first couple of days with my kids, but I had a box of the pads with me in hospital just in case.

DH has started decorating our son's room (son's having to move into the tiny box room and swap with his sister), and if he gets all the woodwork done soon we'll head out for a meal. It'll be nice to get out just the two of us, and take my mind off things :)

The Baby Show is coming to my part of the world at the end of August. I'm going to drag hubby along - is it worth getting him into the DaddyNatal class? We've got ante-natal classes (NCT) starting soon after the Baby Show but no dad-specific ones that I know of.

Edit: it seems like the only daddy natal one for expectant daddies is this one:
"DaddyNatal is a men only session where expectant dads learn how to support their partner through pregnancy and the birth of their baby. Childbirth is daunting for men too, and this session prepares fathers for an active role. Run by award winning DaddyNatal founder, Dean Beaumont, this workshop will introduce dads to what THEIR role is in labour & birth, and how they can make a real difference to the experience for themselves, their partner and their baby."
  • savage - re the slings, you can get ones called Mamaslings which mean you can breastfeed discreetly (don't think I have got the spelling right there, lol); they seem to have good reviews.
