80/50! Did she say how you could get your BP up? Keeping cool I guess (if you're tending towards being hot lately) or eating salty stuff - is there anything else?

She said to eat small meals regularly and to snack on sweet things like biscuits or a piece of chocolate as low blood sugar can cause the BP to get lower! She also said to snack on what I fancy and small amounts little and often is the way to go.

She said that low BP is great for the baby, but obviously not so great for me!

Good luck today Rups. I hope you and DH can agree on whether to find out or not. with DD I didn't want to find out. It may sound a little bit pyscho, but I felt like I didn't want to feel like I had a son or daughter until I was safely holding them. I was afraid if something happened and I lost the baby that it would be too hard to get over if I had named and almost attached a personality to the baby. We haven't found out this time either, but I like to be a bit traditional and find out when they arrive.

I just bought this. We have most of the things we need from DD, so it's nice to buy something new. It is a winter tog, so will suit our December baby.
  • Hello everyone!

It's taken many attempts to read through today's events as kept being interrupted by children lol.
Emsbet hugs for your cold and your rubbish sleeping :( It would be lovely to have a room like a spaceship and just float around to sleep. How did your tour go the other day. Sorry if you did post about it, can't remember reading it. Hope you're feeling better soon
Rups good luck at your scan! Yes def take your notes on your hols with you! I want to know the sex too! Maybe you sonographer can post on here ;)
Gillybean fingers crossed things may be starting for you! Glad they gave you a good once over. Hope you get on ok at your appt this afternoon.
LadyM glad your appt went well. That is quite a low BP esp if it's making you feel a bit weak. Drinking more if you're not feeling too nauseous should help a but as should salty stuff.
Ferrety hope you enjoy your visit to the birthing unit later
MMM I'm also 35 weeks this week. Have a pile of stuff ready for the hospital bag so should really pack it all  sorry to hear you and OH haven't been getting on. Do you think it's baby nerves or just a rough patch.
LittleMoog your OH sounds wonderful with beanie.
Dizsie sounds like another car boot success! Good tips there. I'm not an early bird, prob get there about 10 most weeks unless I'm not sleeping well.
Twinklie hope your appt went well
SM hugs for being poorly. did you get the birth plan from NHS choices website? I need to start looking at mine and writing one.
Placenta my scan notes said anterior too. But I can feel this beastie bubba loads so I'm not sure it's correct. I mean since 24-26 weeks I've felt him properly all over my belly. He now does his Mexican wave which is very entertaining :) Also I think (hope) it's his big round bum that invades my stomach area.
Epidurals like Emsbet said, all invasive procedures carry a certain risk factor. If they had common serious side effects then they wouldn't offer them as routinely as they do. I've known a couple of people that had the dural tap with the headache etc and many, many more that had no problems what so ever. At the end of the day you've just got to make an informed choice that's best for you.
Jedi thank you for sharing your experiences/views re:induction. I feel very similar to you and the amount of people that tell me 42 weeks is too long or drs won't let me go that far etc is incredible and beginning to make me feel a bit crappy. I don't know who isn't going to 'let me' do what, but they're not forcing me into anything. IMO they like to interfere too much and hopefully bubba will come when he's ready :) preferably on his due date :rotfl: well i can hope! I would rather try more natural reflexology etc than these sweeps and drips etc. I too will write this on the birth plan!

AFM after my very late night, I was woken at 9am by my garage door being removed. FIL organised a new door, was told late morning so he'd be over about half 10. Obviously these guys had a different idea of late morning lol.
My aunt and cousin have left this morning, so felt a bit sad. Now my sister and kids have also left seems very quiet here :( still I hope to catch a sneaky nap before OH gets home :)
I keep getting tingling in my fingers and it's annoying me! Keep pressing the wrong letters when typing so is taking a long time to write. And of course as always I've written a massive post.

Hugs to those feeling rough, had little sleep or having a tough day. Labour vibes to those needing/wanting them.

    Afternoon all!

Well I've had a successful afternoon after a rather unsuccessful morning of dress shopping (got a Christening to go to on Sunday). I tried on a lot of very unflattering dresses in sales etc, and finally found a nice maxi dress in Tesco for only £16 (non-sale, coral-coloured and plain) that I can dress up with accessories. Also picked up Moon's chinos that he'd ordered from M&S, so he has something smart to wear too (a lot of his trousers are a bit worn out). Off to investigate nail varnishes that I own in a minute to see if I have one that goes, and then the teenage girl I'll be babysitting on Wednesday and Thursday (if shes' willing and able) can paint my toenails for me as I won't be able to reach. lol I know I've got a lipgloss that'll go too.

Yes LMM I got my birth plan from here - I just printed out the form (scroll to bottom of sub-headings and click print blank form) rather than doing it online and filled it in by hand. It was just as quick, and I didn't have to bother with signing up to anything then either. Have a look at some of the videos linked to the birth plan as this will help guide you too. A lot of the questions say have you discussed this with your midwife, and as I've not discussed a lot of it yet, I've just left that box blank and will take it with me to my appointment on Friday (it says on my notes that this appointment is when the birth plan will be discussed). It helps that I've done the NCT classes as I knew a lot about all of the procedures etc so that I could make informed choices about everything.

For those interested in the mucus plug, yes the coming away of the plug is also referred to as a "show". The plug can be snotty, cream or slightly blood-stained (this is nothing to worry about according to the NCT teacher). It can come away all in one go, or gradually over a period of time (some women don't even notice it happening). It can also come away up to 2 weeks before you give birth, so it isn't necessarily an indication that you will go into labour imminently. The first post on here gives more info.

Hope everyone is well and that Rups is enjoying her scan by now.

Hugs to all who need or want them.

    sexymouse xx
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    Thanks for the replies. :)

I'm not sure when BP is considered "too low" during pregnancy but my midwife doesn't seem too concerned.

No one seems too worried about low BP... ever! I've tried reading about it and the blood pressure websites have a whole list of ways to lower your blood pressure but no-one seems to think you want to raise it! I think they might get worried if it was that low that you started passing out, but probably not before...
Seems all you can do is nibble salty things, keep your blood sugar up & don't get too hot (that was from my midwife last time - if you get hot your body tries to cool down by expanding your veins and that makes your BP drop!).
