Right I'll attempt my birth story for you ladies...
Had been losing my plug at start of the week (sorry tmi.. Hope yr not eating yr tea!)
Went to midwife tues and baby wasn't engaged no signs of labour other than plug.. Woke Thursday with lower backache and period pains.. Not painful enough to take anything for them though, started to time the at teatime but they weren't regular.. Some 6-8min apart some 15min sort of thing. Went to bed and took 1 paracetamol and then woke for toilet at 1.30 and they were quite sore by then.. Didn't think it was imminent so took a couple more paracetamol and went o bed hoping to sleep through them.
It wasn't happening and they were getting sharper.. Timed them and they were 4-6min apart and I was struggling to talk thru them.. Knew this was when I needed to be ringing hosp so gave them a call and was grilled for 15min struggling to talk .. They advised to go get a bath:eek: I insisted a bath wouldn't help and I'd rather come in and get checked and sent home than have a bath so went off to hosp.
They hooked be to monitor in triage and blood pressure was high so knew I wouldn't be going home with it that high. She examined me at 04.00 and I was 5-6cm dilated:T. Couldn't believe it thought they'd say 1-2cm!
They had given me gas on arrival at hosp so carried on with that and was moved to labour ward. They examined me again at 05.30 and I was 7cm so they decided to break waters.. Didn't break straightaway so got on ball for an hour and they went ... Couldn't have the active labour I wanted as was continuously monitored for the high bp so the ball was as far as I could go. They offered more pain relief and as it had really kicked in since the waters had gone I opted for epidural- thought as being 7cm I didn't want them to tell me I was too late for one if I wanted it later!
Checked again at 1pm and was 9cm.. Loved the epidural !!
Rest of afternoon the contractions started dwindling a bit and baby's heart rate was dropping every now and again. Consultant examined me and was really painful I'm sure she was trying to turn baby round but hadn't said so beforehand.. She had whole hand in and was twisting it:eek:
Still 9cm and contractions were dropping in strength so put on drip to speed them up.
Was given a epidural top up of stronger stuff which was helping with pain. By this point I was getting really weak as hadn't eaten anything other than the odd biccie and energy tablets since I got to hosp.
They had told me not to push til fully dilated so was reexamined at 10pm and they finally gave me the good news that I was dilated only my contractions were still not strong enough and baby was back to back.. Their plan was to wait another hour out on drip and spend two hours pushing!! With the possiblity of forcep delivery or c sect at the end of it.
I was that weak and had specified in birth plan that I didn't want forcep or ventouse delivery plus the epidural had worn off again so I asked for c sect now and epidural top up... Only to be told someone else had gone to theatre for c sect and I'd have to wait an hour if I still wanted one... Consultant still pestering me to push:mad: but was insistent I wanted c sect... Baby's heart rate had been dropping again and it still wasn't low enough in birth canal..
They finally listened and I had to wait out the hour on gas and air alone.. Was taken in at 23.45 and baby was born at 00.26... 23 hours after i started labouring.
Little girl .. 2 weeks early weighing 7lb 4. Name tbc.
They c sect wasn't as expected.. It wasn't painful as such but once baby was out and they were clearing uterus etc it was v uncomfortable!!! But it's all forgotten now.. Have beautiful little girl who is bf well :D
Was a surprise finding out it was a girl as I'd imagined it was a boy all way through. Wasn't in hosp long they let me out Saturday pm!

    Rups,

Have you explained why you want to find out ? will it make it easier to bond with baby ? is it so you can buy coloured clothes ? Perhaps if he feels there is a valid reason rather than you just disagreeing with him he could understand how you feel.

With our first we didnt find out, we both agreed and when we got there the hospital policy was not to tell anyway. When he was born they lifted him up and my husband sobbed "its a boy" - was a very special moment indeed,

With our second we didnt want to know and again when he was born and all had a peek that moment of finding out as we met him made an instant bond.

This time round we found out, which in some ways I regret as now everyone knows what we are having, there will be no "its a ....." moment and we have picked out a name that me and OH refer to him by. There seems to be some of the excitement taken away, no guessing by my bump or old wives tales and we use to have late night chats about if 'its a boy, we will do this .... or if its a girl ....'

I think you will really struggle if only one of you find out, especially as the other would be looking into what you say and if you slip up I doubt you will hear the end of it !

Is it possible for you to not find out tomorrow, and tell your OH that you are doing so for him on the understanding that if you come to really regret that decision you will be having a private scan at a later date to find out, with his blessing as a thankyou for you backing down !

Thanks for posting Jen - pleased to hear all was well in the end though.

Rups you could ask if the sonographer could write it on paper and put it in an evelope so if you change your mind later, you could find out without need for another scan.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

thanks mishka and sexymouse.i could do that, and i see your point of not finding out which kind of falls into with his reasoning. i could do it later for me or i could also ask lady to write it down, yes. so in case it gets too much for me, i can peek. :) i guess i wanted to know as waiting that long would annoy me and i am so impatient. hehe. it wasnt really for clothes etc as i wasnt planning on getting some anyway as i am sure family and friends will give us loads. think it was just for me being nosey. ;) i hate waiting. hehe

Ferrety I have been really uncomfortable the last few days, think it is just the last few weeks. Plus whenever baby moves its uncomfortable, definitely running out of space. Think I did too much yesterday as felt awful and struggled to breathe. Have had a lazy day today and still feeling uncomfortable, just not as bad.

    Thanks Rups & Bellola

I did think that thats it, just lack of space and coming to the end but its good to know from people who are also there or have been there
