  • Sexymouse www.babydolly.co.uk have some good bath thermometers (saw them in use at our antenatal class). I'm sure that they would do room thermometers too.

Afternoon everyone, hope your all well.

I'm so sleepy. Might have a nap while OH is out BMXing. Had my 31 week appointment today, everything fine, measuring spot on for my dates. She wasn't very happy with how the consultant was with me after my growth scan and has written a comment in my notes about it. I've been put on calcium tablets, has anyone else had to take these?
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

    Nappies:
    • Changing bag
    • if you are going disposable:
      • 8 nappy changes a day - how many days' worth do you want on hand?
      • Wipes
      • Bags / bin (if needed)
    • if you are going reusable:
      • 8 nappy changes a day - how many days' worth do you want before needing to do a wash and dry?
      • wraps if you are using a 2 part system: less wraps than nappies needed
      • boosters if needed
      • nappy bin
      • wipes - reusable or disposable
      • laundry powder/liquid and essential oils for washing
    Feeding:
    • if breastfeeding: hopefully nothing, but might want a breast pump in case, plus bottles, plus steriliser, plus cup thingy (see Turtlemoose's earlier post)
    • if formula feeding: bottles, steriliser, formula (remember hospital rules may require you to bring in your own ready-to-drink sealed cartons)
Cleaning / toiletries (you and baby!):
    • Means of cleaning baby:
      • baby bath (unless bathing in bath with you)
    • Cotton wool (balls are recommended aren't they?)
    • Wipes and toiletries not recommended for newborns, but can be used later
    • Nappy rash cream (or wait and see if needed)
    • Towels to dry baby
    • Cloth / sponge to clean baby (supposed to be only for their use)
    • Breast pads
    • Maternity pads
    • post-birth knickers for you & something to labour in

    Furniture:
    • Somewhere for baby to sleep: recommended first 6 months in same room as you, so moses basket / crib / swing etc; thereafter cot / cotbed
    • Matresses for moses basket/crib/cotbed/cot
    • Bedding for moses basket/crib/cotbed/cot
      • matress cover (may wish to get a waterproof one to reduce risk of cot death)
      • fitted sheets
      • no duvets/blankets for newborns (cot death risk again) but will probably want them for older babies
    • Somewhere to store baby clothes, incl hangers if needed
    • Somewhere to change baby (changing table not needed, could make do with just a mat if necessary)
    • Somewhere
Large 'items' (in size or possible cost!):

    • Means of transporting baby:
      • you will need a carseat if you ever want to use a car,
      • pram / pushchair / travel system (for newborns must lie flat)
      • sling or carrier if desired
    • Baby thermometer (room thermometer as well if you want, and bath thermometer if you're worried you can't judge it yourself)
    • Baby monitor (if you want)
    • Somewhere for baby to sit (bouncer or similar)
    • Baby gym or similar
    • Later on: high chair / bumbo seat etc
    Clothing & clothing like items:
    • Muslins for burping / wiping etc
    • Cellular blankets
    • Various Clothes (somebody else can list) - will need to split this by summer/winter won't we?

Re stickers - what do they stick on with? Do they come off easily again or will they damage paint/wallpaper? We will be redecorating the whole of our house (just moved) incl baby's room so if we get a nice smooth plaster finish we won't want to be destroying it with stickers immediately after!

    Hi all!

Don't remember who it was who was having a very hungry caterpillar theme in their nurseries but tesco have got the double club card exchange on at the mo and have some wall stickers in the offer. They aren't cheap but look great and if you have got vouchers could be good. Hope I've managed to post the link ok cos typing on iPad at babysitting at mo and not too sure if it's worked.

Also, has anyone bought a room or bath thermometer yet? Was advised by nct teacher to get a room one but not sure what to get. Anyone have any experience with these?

    Sexymouse xx

We're probably going to buy the Avent room/bath thermometer, and just keep it on a shelf in Beanie's room when they're not in the bath!

    Hello ladies

Sorry to come on just to moan. Work is horrendous at the minute. I dont think I could be more miserable when I'm there, and I'm only 31 weeks so still have ages to work.

I do my role completely on my own and have done for nearly two years. Prior to this myself and colleague shared the workload 50/50 until she went on maternity. Now I'm going on maternity and I get two "replacements" that I have to train. I can't tell you how much this !!!!es me off. I've managed the role alone for so long and have been asking for help throughout. Now I leave and they think its a 'two person job' Cheers for the help when I asked for it nobheads!!!

So the replacements are at totalling different stages of being trained (by me) as one only started this week, so managing my time doing my own existing projects and work, supporting the most advanced one and completely babysitting the new one is just becoming so difficult. I'm on day 3 of having both of them and am almost at breaking point.

No-one at work gives me a break at all, thinking "oh she's pregnant, i'll lay off a bit on all the stupid questions and passing over work to her that i just can't be arsed to do myself". I have never worked with such a horrible bunch of !!!!!!!ing bloody areshole selfish arrogant !!!!! in my life! Agh :( There is one guy is particular and the way he speaks to me makes me want to slap him. So very rude. No pleases, no thank yous. The only reason I'm there is that the money is very good. Really don't know how I'm going to feel at the end of maternity leave though.

My baby is due 4th October, so my plan was to work till 20th Sep, take 6 days holiday then begin maternity leave. The thought behind this was to keep earning for as long as possible since my pay drop is going to be from around £1600/month down to £500/month on maternity leave. Now I'm just thinking this is crazy and I should finish sooner. Might ask around on the employment board to see what everyone else did. What difference does a few £100s make to your sanity?!?

I was accidently forwarded an email chain today (between my boss & the HR person) saying "Try and get her to take as much holiday as possible before maternity leave so we don't have to end up paying her for it" whereas to my face they have said they are quite happy to pay me for the holiday I have accrued. I am so fed up :(. My boss and I always got on so well and I feel like since I've told her I was pregnant she has totally turned against me and finds my decision to get pregnant as some sort of disloyalty towards her. !!!!!!?!? Worst still its her birthday this weekend, and for some reason we're all contributing £5 towards a present for her. I want to retract my fiver now, especially if she's trying to screw me over with maternity pay!!

Anyway hope you're all well and your bosses are slightly less !!!!ing awful :(

Savage the ones we have are repositionable. I think you can use a hairdryer then just peel them off so they shouldn't damage anything.

Moneypuddle you seem to have so many work stresses. It's not fair on you! I think you should decide when you want to finish and just do it. To hell with everyone else! You need to be selfish and think about you and the baby. I'm starting maternity leave the week baby's due but I'm using all my annual leave before that so I have 4 weeks off, to rest nest and relax a bit. Can you not do something similiar, I'm sure you'd feel much better for it.
