Moneypuddle, I think in your situation I'd be thinking about getting the gp to sign you off sick with stress. If they're going to be arsey about you getting your holiday paid out when they're overloading you with work and training etc, you don't owe them anything. If you take all your holiday will you even have time to finish the training? What does your pregnancy risk assessment say about breaks etc?

Just popped into Mothercare on my way home to pick up the lightshade for baby's room, and they had loads of clothes on sale - I got a three pack of sleepsuits and 2 five packs of vests for £21.50. There were loads of summer outfits, could be good for buying ahead if you know what you're having!

Possibly stupid question - do winter babies need long sleeved vests under sleepsuits? Planning on bean being mostly in vest, sleepsuits and cardie for first few months, but I think 2 sets of long sleeves might be too much? Our house is reasonably warm if you put the heating on low during the day in winter.

LittleMoog, wasn't the theory one more layer than you would wear?

LittleMoog I've only bought short sleeved vests to go underneath, as normally in winter I'd wear a short-sleeved t-shirt under a jumper/coat, and Bean can wear short-sleeved vest, long-sleeved sleepsuit and a cardigan and/or blanket when out and about. He should be quite cosy in his pushchair cocoon anyway without an additional blanket in our case.

Good luck Clarissa - hope everything goes well for you today and you're having mummy cuddles soon.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Has anyone else around the 32 week mark found themselves struggling to stay awake mid-morning? I woke up absolutely shattered this morning, and feeling like all of my muscles in my arms and legs needed a really good stretch. I ate my pro-flakes with raisins and took my iron tablet with fruit juice as yesterday, but by 10am at childminding it was all I could do to stay awake. I had to have a proper coffee to get me through the day - luckily this worked. Got midwife a week tomorrow, so will talk to her about it, as not sure if this is normal, or whether the iron tablets aren't working properly.

yes, I'd heard the one more layer thing, but I tend to wear loads of layers as I get cold easily when stationary due to my thryoid condition so it's hard to judge! Around the house in the winter I wear a vest top, long sleeved top and a cardigan, or vest, thinner t-shirt plus a jumper. I also frequently wrap up in a blanket as well. DH is the opposite though, shorts all year round and always too hot - he opened the French doors when it was snowing last year , so it will depend which one of us the baby takes after i guess!

I've got a couple of long sleeved vests in 0-3 months, so I guess I'll just see how warm baby feels when they're here. I can always buy more if they seem like a chilly bean! I was also thinking that getting long sleeves over long sleeves would be tricky!

Thanks LittleMoog. Thats what annoys me most. Saying 'get her to take her holiday' but then not having a handle on the fact that I still have so much left to teach the people who are replacing me that I feel too busy to even attend my midwife appointments and have to hurry straight back at the end of them!! Pregnancy Risk Assessment?? They haven't bothered to do one. Seriously as a workplace, it sucks :(

moneypuddle - will your GP not sign you off with stress? You sound like you would be a prime candidate for being signed off. It can't be good for the baby. I have been having a stressful time at work recently and know how you feel about being given extra work just because I'm efficient and will do it (regardless of how much extra work I'll have to put in) but I've been given it because someone else can't be bothered doing it & makes up crappy excuses about why it hasn't been done. I'm taking 4 weeks holiday before I go on mat. leave (all my annual leave - just works out its better to take it before based on when our leave calendar runs from and until). I am 22 weeks and I've started counting down the weeks already so I do know how you feel a little bit. I'd seriously talk to your midwife or GP though about getting some time off. Really unfair about how they have treated you about mat leave - can you take any more holidays before mat leave? They'll have to pay you and you get a few weeks to chill out !:)

moneypenny I've just booked an appointment to go and see my GP on Monday morning on your advice - its the earliest she could see me. Its more because i'm feeling generally run down, but I'm going to bring up work and see what she says. With stress, do you know if you can self-certify for the first 7 days, or is that more with sickness? I just need a break, so even if I can just get signed off for a week or take a week off of my own accord (self-certifying) (not holiday, but off sick, as I see it more as recovering from work, more than taking fun days off!) it will help me out.

You kind of make a rod for your own back by being super-efficient at your job, so if I could give you any advice it would be to try to take a back seat whilst you can so that your colleagues get used to it early on in your pregnancy. I've not done that and totally regret it. I've made the situation so much worse for myself :(

Even if I could take more of my holiday (which I dont feel I can due to the situation at work) sadly, we also really need the money whilst I'm on maternity leave. It would mean an extra £140 or so a month for 5 months which will help us out a little

Thanks for your reply hun :)

Littlemoog, I have some long sleeved vests that people have bought for us, I think you would use them if baby was going to be wearing say a t-shirt and trousers/dungarees instead of a sleepsuit over the top.

Sm, I've been suffering tiredness in the mornings for weeks now, I think it's partly due to me not sleeping well. I think it's normal to be tired at this stage.
