    Congratulations AMC!!
The first couple of weeks are really tough, no-one tells you just how tough they are. Teddy is 5 weeks today and I'm just starting to feel confident in everything, it takes time. And the blues are normal, especially around day 5 when your hormones kick in.....this was when Teddy wouldn't latch onto my boob anymore and I spent 2 days crying with guilt about giving him formula......but it was the best decision, he was so much more happy and so was I as he was a lot more settled! I expressed too so he was still getting a breastmilk bottle a day but my supply dwindled down and I stopped as of last week. You have to do whatever is best for you as well as baby. It will get easier for you hun.

I used cotton wool and water for the first week or so, its easy when you're indoors but when you go out and about its not practical....and when their poo changes baby wipes are much better, pampers sensitive ones and Johnsons are good, Huggies not so much!

I felt the same about sleepsuits and had loads of outfits for Teddy to wear but all in 0-3 months as I was told he was going to be a big baby. He was 8lb 14oz but everything was massive and the only newborn/first size stuff I had were sleepsuits and vests! He's 5 weeks old and 11lb 11oz now and only just in his 0-3 months stuff, wish I'd got more newborn bits really.

Just bought the best thing ever today, a widgey pillow! Wish I had one from the start......I would recommend one to everyone!
Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference :)
  • Sorry Rups but I think Next charges about £4.95 for home delivery... they may have something like if you spend X you get free delivery but I just find it easier to collect from the store.

girl vs boy heartbeats - I think if the heartbeat is between 140-160bpm it's a boy, 160-180 it's a girl. Not a clue if it happens to be 160 :rotfl:I mentioned this to mw as we're having a surprise. She said that this was rubbish and you can't tell whether it's a boy or a girl from the hearbeat!

Hugs to all of you who work long hours or have OHs who do!

spreadsheets - I have what it's more like a list of things to buy, what's missing, etc. Thanks to everyone who posted theirs and the opinions around talc, body lotion, etc. I was thinking of buying some but I may just wait and see if I really need these.

Glad your mw appointment went well emsbet.

AMC - hand in there! I can't imagine what you're going through but you've brought a baby into the world. Such an amazing thing (and slightly scary thing for me as well)! Sounds like you're being really harsh on yourself, if you don't mind me saying so :o btw, thank you for sharing your experiences.

MrsBryan - good to know things are moving forward! Thanks for the tips!

Hi, just wondered which changing bags everyone has got and if they are any good? I'm looking at ordering one as I only have the free Boots one so far, and it seems quite small? Thanks

Just to go back a topic, as someone who sucked their thumb in their sleep well into my early 20's I would always offer a baby a dummy :D

One pet hate is toddlers with one hanging out of their mouths, we got round this by attaching it to the corner of a blanket. It worked well as they could always find it so no rooting about in the pitch black to put it back in, downside was it was another attachment to break.

Mine were both at school before they gave them up completely, but only for naps/snuggling/night time, which is shocking parenting to some but for us it was the one thing that was theirs and we were willing to let them truly 'grow out of it'
