Each to their own of course but as I never had one, neither did my mum or my gran and we didn't die of Infant SDS or Cot Death (which is an argument the dummie lovers frequent to me to make me agree with them!) so I am going to try not to eaither... although if baby won't stopr crying I might cave and rush to 24hr tesco! lol
my sister was anti-dummy but has recommended that we have one in, as newest niece was very sucky, and wanted to suck for comfort for first 2-3 months. It meant sis (and her nipples) got a break and niece was happy. She's now 6 months and doesn't have it any more, it was just when she was tiny and learning to self-settle. We've got 1 as it came as part of our bottle starter set, so will try that in an emergency!

snowyz it was the same with my daughter. She still sucks her thumb every night at 8. I really wish she'd had a dummy instead, as I just took it away from my son.Cross Stitch Cafe member no.800

hello peeps! I don't know what happened but I somehow got behind, so although I've been reading I'm on about a 2 week delay
kept putting off posting as I hadn't caught up, but it's taking forever.
Hope everyone's ok? Will still try and catch up, but I'm not holding out much hope. Although I finished work on Friday, so maybe there's a slim chance! Got about a squillion jobs to do around the house though too...really need to finish my list and then get cracking with ticking things off. Seem to be getting so worn out lately though, or I get carried away, do too much and then I'm pooped! Today I've only managed to do a load of washing and hang it out, fold a load of washing, empty dishwasher, sweep the garden and spray a load of weedkiller. Still got to find something for dinner and fill holes in bathroom wall ready for papering....sigh
Oh, also, please can I join the facebook group? Sorry, I can't remember who set it up?0 -

Re dummy. Both me and DH were initially very against them but I have now changed my mind about it. One if we have a fussy baby who wants to suck all the time, it's better than trying to constantly feed when they don't need it and just want soothing.
Secondly there has been studies which show using a dummy in the early months reduces the risk of SIDS. They now give them to baby's in special care I believe, because of this. It's something to do with keeping the airwaves open I believe.
Dummy's now are made to cause less of a problem in terms of teeth etc and I think if you ween them off it before 1 year there isn't really an issue. There's more info here

Thumb sucking is far worse than dummies. Can lead to
Misalignment of the teeth to such an extent that major orthodontic work can be required. Try to get then out of it ASAP.love you lots like jelly tots0
