  • Morning everyone! had a lot of catching up to do so have forgotten half of what i read already! Welcome to all the newbies and now for the bits I can remember....

KatyLiz that is a shocking story about clothes at a car boot! fancy selling clothes with dried on poo - what a moron! It makes you wonder what state her child wanders round in!

Old Wives Tales - I've heard so many ones now and even tried a few online predictors and get diff results everytime! According to the size and location(!) of my bump, I should be having a boy and if we go by heartbeat then it's a boy. but I had severe morning sickness in the first trimester which means it's a girl. So all in all, we have no real idea. I have started to ask my magic 8 ball app on my phone. So far, that has been telling me to 'ask again later', although I think on one occasion it said 'yes' to having a girl!

Sexymouse it was me talking about the Asda event; I've been told the next one is on in August and that was by an Asda Telephone Customer Services Lady who was really lovely and couldn't do enough to help me once she found out I was pregnant.

Gillybean re snacks and encouraging baby to be sporty; my parents didn't give me or my sister lots of sugary snacks and sweets so I know that they will be good when baby is a bit older, but I can already tell that OH's family will be giving them chocolate and sweeties and I am not happy about that! I am not going to say that they can't have them at all, but I don't want them encouraged into thinking that a) that's the best kind of snack or b) that when they go to see Grandad X or Aunty X that they will always get a bag of chocolate buttons or something! OH and I are also keen to encourage LO to be active - we're both keen runners so OH is adamant that our LO will be too but I have said that it's their choice and that whatever they like doing sports wise we'll support them. As I teach zumba, I have said they're going to be a zumba baby but OH has said this is only ok if it's a girl! I have explained several times over that the inventor of Zumab is a very masculine, muscly, straight guy but OH won't have it! Lol, not that he'll have much choice in the matter!

AMC many congratulations! Sorry the birth wasn't as planned, but what a lovely name! Wynn is so unusual as well - how did you come about that name?

Scared of giving birth Strangely enough, I am not scared at all. not trying to be big here, I don't know why I feel so calm about it, I just do! I have an idea of how I would like things to proceed and I also have clear ideas about things that I definitely do not want and will be writing them into a birth plan so that the hospital is aware, but all said and done if things go awry and they have to do whatever for baby's saftey then I will go along with it. I was at antenatal classes on Saturday and they were explaining the fear cycle with labour - when you get scared you have a rush of adrenaline (for the fight or flight response) and this in turn contracts your muscles ready for the appropriate action. As the womb is a mucle this will contract and you will experience more pain; this in turn scares women even more as the pain is more intense than they were expecting and - yes, you've guessed it - they get more scared and the cycle starts all over again. So it really is important to try not to be scared when you go into labour. they suggested on Saturday taking a tour of the delivery suite so you know what to expect when you come in and also to take things to distract you when you are in the early stages of labour (games, dvd's puzzles, magazines). They other things they recommended was massage and visualisation/breathing techniques to try and relax and calm.

House is really coming along now, still got lots to do but got curtains up in front room yesterday and have chosen the rug we want so off to get that tonight before painting the nursery!

OH and I fell out BIG time at the weekend. Won't go into all the details, but - and I can say this in all honesty - he accused me of something that just wasn't true and wouldn't accept that he was wrong about it. he even accused me of twisting things to make them fit my version. I slept on the sofa on Sat night and it was a while before we started talking again yesterday. We're still not 100% right and I'm not overly sure what to do about it. Want to sort it out and set things on the right footing because I don't want to go back to how I was ten years ago when I was a doormat and backed down all the time just because it was easier. Ah well, it will all work itself out!

    Hugs to all!

I slept on the sofa on Sat night

Sorry but  ... he let his pregnant missus sleep on the sofa???...even when OH has been drunk and we have fell out and I refuse to go to bed with him he would not let me do that... he would insist on sleeping on the sofa (then sneak into bed once I was alssep - crafty!) or plead and plead with me to come to bed with him and promise not to hug me to sleep unless I wanted him too...even more so now I am carrying his son! :(

Sorry MMM but I think that is really selfish of Mr MMM, even if you was in the wrong... a pregnant lady needs her sleep in a position that is comfortable for her or she could have really bad back pain in the future :(

Hi everyone, just stopping by quickly to say that Luke Wynn Preston was born on Friday 27 July at 7.51am weighing 6lbs 5oz.

He is absolutely gorgeous but the birth was quite traumatic; I was induced and it was very painful, plus I was due to have an epidural and by the time they put it in the baby was coming so I got none of the pain relief. We were in hospital til Saturday lunchtime as Luke's blood count was low.

He cries through the night at the moment but hoping this will change soon. At the moment I feel really guilty that I'm not breastfeeding (Luke hasn't taken to it) and am giving him formula milk instead. Anyone else doing this? Should I stop making myself feel bad?

Still feeling quite ropey after the birth but hopefully better soon. Congrats to Robyn and hope Clarissa you have your baby soon. Love to all xxx

Woo hoo AMC - Beautiful name but sounds like you've had a really rough ride!! Take it easy and don't feel bad about formula feeding. One of my close friends tried it and couldnt take to breast feeding at all and baby is now doing fine. She has an electric pump and expresses a bit of milk for some of the feeds so her lil man is getting the best of both worlds and daddy can join in with the feeds!!

As for me, I had the sweep on friday. Painful and bubba wasnt ready, midwife was right she didnt think it would work so booked in for sweep number 2 tomorrow. I think its done something in that im now having pelvic pains a lot more when i walk so assuming that is a sign that he has moved down further. If the second sweep doesnt work we are booked in for induction on thursday evening. Not looking forward to it but if it has to be that way then that is it. Still hoping for labour signs but not really getting anything lasting.

But the main difference for me is the bump shape. With the girls I got thicker in the waist and carried sort of all around. This time my bump is all in the front, like a basketball shoved up my top, whilst I still have a waist and don't look remotely pregnant from the back.
Will need to investigate my bump from behind. From the front I'm sure it's all in the front, but my bum is definitely bigger too as things are getting tight by my thighs etc... KatyLiz, did you get treetrunk legs for both girl and boy? I'm certainly guzzling sweet stuff now but was on salt & vinegar chips earlier on so that's not consistent either!

As for placenta positioning, it's on my 20 week scan printout thingy but she didn't mention it at all when doing the scan. I think they look for where it is anyway as they need to check if you've got placenta praevia and if you have an anterior placenta they need to know to avoid it if you need a caesar.

We've had a manic weekend, guests over to stay, went to the Olympic football match, another friend came over to drop off a whole load of baby goodies including a pram/car seat/cot!

    Hi all!

Gosh it's been ages since I posted. My mat leave has been so busy. My mum has broken her foot and has needed quite a lot of support. My sister has been amazing looking after her but she has got 3 kids and a job. I feel quite guilty that I can't do more to help but it is a 45 min drive to Mum's and she lives in London which I really want to avoid at the moment. The road to her house has an Olympic lane on it and I don't want to be stuck in traffic so close to my due date.

I have been following you guys on my phone but it is such a palaver to post using it. I always think I'll post when I go on the computer but it has been so nice being off work that i don't want to turn the computer on.

Happy due date Jedi!! I can't believe that it is your due date already! It seems like yesterday that we signed up to the list and now you're a boldie! ***SQUEAL!!!***:j

Linea Nigra - I have one going up to the bottom of my bra but i don't know the gender. I am due on Friday - so I don't have too long to wait to find out.

I keep on having really intense braxton hicks. they don't hurt but every now and then my whole belly goes rock hard. It's really weird.

I keep on looking out for signs of labour - i'm driving myself crazy. It's like when we were TTCing. I'm looking out for every little sign and symptom. My mum and sis don't think that the bump is low enough. I think it's pretty low actually but what do i know? ! lol!!

I hope you all are having a good day today.

Welcome to any newbies - your time will fly on this board but it is great even if you don't post too often.

Rups - I'm glad you seem a bit calmer. Try to enjoy your pregnancy and this time with you DH before life changes forever. It's brililant if you can. I didn't feel baby til about 20/21 weeks. but people were saying to me "haven't you felt it yet?" And then making a concerned face. It was annoying cos i knew it was perfectly normal but i thought what an inconsiderate thing to say to someone.

AMC congrats on the birth of Luke. I love the name. It's classic but not overused. We are 100% set on our boy's name but Luke can go on the list for next time! Don't beat yourself up about feeding formula. You are doing the best for your baby. xxxxx

Labour vibes to all the boldies.

Please send your labour vibes to me too! xxxxx
  • Is anyone else scared of giving birth, I've just cried all the way through one born. Just do not know how I'm going to get a baby out of my body

Gillybean - yes VERY scared!! But trust me by the time you get to full term your ready for bubba to be out. By whatever means my lil man is coming this week. Am trying very hard not to think about it and take it one step at a time. I think its like anything in life if you worry about something its often the worry thats worse than the actual event. Saying that, ask me the same question after bubba has arrived and there is a good chance i'll have a completely different answer!!

Fingers crossed things start moving for you soon Clarissa.

I've just realised I should maybe start the perineal massage this week if I'm going to do it. Still can't decide as the results of studies are mixed :undecided

Re giving birth, I'm not scared about the process or the pain, the only thing I'm scared about is something going wrong.

For those who like one born, there's a new programme on starting tomorrow, bbc2 at 9pm called Midwives: Delivering Under Pressure.

Gosh, there was a lot to catch up on this morning. I shouldn't really be posting from work but it's my last tomorrow and don't feel like doing any work so I'm being naughty instead.

Congrats on the birth of baby Luke AMC!

Re linea nigra – I am pale skinned and dark haired and I have the line all the way up to my bust. It’s not particularly dark though but I can definitely see a line. I’m having a boy. (Also I think my belly button is on the verge of popping out – yuk, I don’t like it!)

    Sending labour vibes to MrsExcited!
  • I've got my GTT today, had my sugary drink and now waiting patiently for two hours before I can get my blood taken again and leave. I'm so sleepy but praying I don't nod off sitting here as there are two other women in the room with me and I might snore lol.

Linea nigra. I don't have one yet but did have one with DD.

Bump shape. I was more round and had a thicker waist with DD but this time my bump is higher and out to the front. We had a gender scan which said it was more than likely a boy but it wasn't definite. I have a 3d scan on Thursday so should find out for definite then.

AMC. Congratulations, love the name, it's on our shortlist.

Scared of giving birth. I'm not scared at all, I've done it before and know how painful it is but I also know that I could cope with it. I'm hoping for a water birth this time but we'll just have to wait and see.

I haven't been posting much on this thread as I didn't really feel that I belonged here but I do now that I'm over 27 weeks. :D

  • I noticed quite a few went carbooting yesterday. I've not done that so far, cannot believe the story of the woman selling pooh stained clothes, disgusting!

Im a fan of ebay, made some good purchases this weekend. Bought bubba a cot mobile for £10 and one of those early baby books with black, white and red images on for £5. Couldnt justify the £15 brand new price tag in the shops. I've also got a miriam stoppard 'first time parents' book for £2.70 inc delivery. Total spend just under £18. If i'd bought the mobile brand new that would have cost £30 so very pleased, just need them to arrive now!!
