Well, i think i am the only one to be happy to be a SAHM.I will start in October to study to become a teacher, so with the new baby and everything, I will be happy to be at home till she/he is 3 and I hopefully finished my career. Anyway those are my plans.

See I thought about halfway or even in croydon but the thing that put me off is the snow we get...wouldn't want to have to walk back from croydon with a buggy or small child but at least if the nursery is 5 mins from home i can walk back alone and then get baby x:jBaby Boy born December 20120 -
I am trying not to worry about the going back to work and childcare thing. I am sure it will work out somehow..best to concentrate on a healthy pregnancy and bonding with baby for now.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

That's a good point. I suppose that the way I'm looking at it is that if the snow is that bad, I won't be in work anyway! Selsdon is on a big hill so we have been known to get trapped as it is. It's also weighing up having the baby in nursery/childcare for the extra couple of commuting hours, against having them with you for the majority of the commute and paying for less time.0 -
My mother said to my BF that she is going to retire next year so she can spend all her time bringing up her grand daughter . I don't think so.
That is why she wants me to go back to work although having looked into costs we will practically break even if I go back to work when travel etc is added. We will look at the costs nearer the time.
It is difficult because with the boys there was no way that I would be able to go back to work because I would be making a loss with putting two children into nursery so the decision was made for me this time it is close but not definite. Would love to be a stay at home mum but don't think it is going to be possible. Actually thinking I might have to get a night job again so we can get an extra income and not have to pay out for childcare but will be difficult sleep wise and family bonding wise.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

We're not entitled to anything either, which is a bit of a bum, but I suppose it's because we earn good money so can't complain too much!
I think schooling depends where you are in south London - I grew up in Sydenham and went to very good schools, but there's not much in the Croydon area, particularly at secondary level, unless you're prepared to pay for it. We'll probably look to move further into London down the line - both work and home-wise, we both grew up there and we're really as far out as we'd like to be.
Sa-ra-ra and Dizzi - funnily enough i'm in same position as you with similar childcare costs. We are also not entitled to anything apart from childcare vouchers (both of us). I am however planning to go back to work, we need the second income and I need adult conversation. Hoping to make use of my companies flexible working policy.2025 financial goals & challenges!

Hello everyone,
Thanks for your thoughts. I had the midwife this morning. Bubba is doing fine but he is still very high up which is probably why there has been no signs of labour. Had the sweep but midwife doesn't think its going to work because he is high so im booked in for second one on tuesday and if still no signs then im booked in for the induction on thursday evening. Terribly hoping to avoid the second sweep let alone the induction but if it has to be, it has to be.
One word of advice for anyone having a sweep, I had hubby with me in the room while midwife was doing it which I greatly appreciated as it is an uncomfortable procedure so i would definitely recommend having birthing partner with you.
I am exhausted now and hoping that something starts soon... pinkies crossed!!!2025 financial goals & challenges!

Hello people, can I officially join this thread??!! I've officially told friends and family and am now 13+3 after my scan this wk. I'm due on 30th jan.
My heart tells me to be a Sahm but my upbringing and I feel, social pressure means I also want to go back to work!! Luckily, I think I'll be able to combine the two as we work at home on farms with our families. It's just a case of working out the family roles and financial roles.
Morocha - I'm not showing a bump yet but I know that
My waist is so much thicker than before. When I told a couple of friends they said they'd guessed cos I've put weight on - nice!!0 -
I'm a SAHM and have been since having my eldest 9 years ago, for us we are entitled to tax credits which is only slightly less than if I returned to work and had the children in nursery/childminder. In the long term we found we are actually better off as all my wages and then some would have been spent on care for them during the holidays so even part time work wasnt logical.
Im really lucky to have the choice, I picked up some weekend shifts at a local pub which gave me the chance to make friends locally and have some adult time,
We may never be able to afford holidays (ever) or fancy branded clothes but it works well for us.Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0
