I wasn't pressurised to be induced. It was only booked in because my cervix wasn't found to be anywhere near ready during the sweep. As it happened my waters broke at home. However, when they examined me at the hospital, my waters had taken on a green colour which meant that baby had released his bowels. I wasn't having any contractions and my cervix was long so I was induced. I didn't have the pessary as they put me straight onto the drip. I'd read somewhere that the drip was meant to be really painful from the get go but it wasn't. It was like period pain and I didn't need any pain relief for hours. When I did need it, I only had gas and air. I stayed like this up until things started to go hairy.
I know that some people on here are very anti inducement but it is really up to you. Yes, I was booked in for one but that was my well informed choice to make. It just so happened that, despite starting on my own, I needed it because there was meconium (sp) in the fluid.
It also helped me knowing that I had a fabulous team looking after me. Yes, my experiences with the community midwives was poor but the hospital staff were amazing. Without them then I wouldn't be here today. I know that sounds melodramatic but it's true as things went very wrong (for
me - not my son) during my emergency c-section but that is a story for another day. This, btw, had nothing to do with the medical staff.
At the end of the day, make your own informed decision on every aspect of your care and, remember, that one persons experiences doesn't necessarily mean that you will have the same. Trust your gut instinct.0 -
Quick update - sweep may have worked some magic....mrsj28 you might soon be top of the list.....:D! (I did combine sweep with a bath containing evening primrose oil, bounced on my ball, chilled out shopping expedition, long drive and also had a bit of spice at Wagamamas!).
I think my waters partially went at 1.30am (dripping no gush!) - no contractions but phoned hospital - was told to go back to bed and call them in the morning as I wasn't having any contractions.
Couldn't sleep so just lied there....period-type pains started around 2am until around 6am so I took a couple of paracetamol and they have gone just about - no more water either.
So going to call hospital a bit later and see what they say!
My OH has already moved our house around to accommodate the birthing pool :rotfl:(think he's a bit worried about not being able to fill it in time!!!) but I think they might get me in to check me out if I don't have any more contractions - so I am not letting him blow it up yet!!!!!:p
Thanks for all your comments - they have really helped in putting my mind at ease - the pressure comes from all directions as soon as you go over-due!:o
Hope you all have a happy Sunday!

That's how my waters went - constant drip drip. Baby can move to plug the hole so to speak. I didn't have contractions either - just period aches and pains. Good luck for today sweetie xx0 -
Good luck dida, how exciting!!! Keep bouncing on that ball xxx***** on the road to debt freedom *****

Snoz! How are you and lo doing?
I agree completely with you about inducement I think you need to take everything into consideration and ask any questions you have, so you can make an informed choice. I'm glad your midwife hospital experience was better than your community one, mine has been completely the other way both times but it doesn't bother me for this time, will just deal with it at the time or DH will!0 -

My little boy is amazing - perfect in every single way. I just can't believe that we made him and that he resembled a little tadpole when we found out that I was expecting. He is such a blessing!
I'm doing much better thanks. I'm feeling stronger and stronger every day. The MW is coming to see me later and I have to see the doctor tomorrow. With any luck, they won't exercise their power to readmit me.
I'm sorry that you had poor experiences at the hospital. It really does seem to be luck of the draw. Hopefully, you be well looked after when it's your turn.0 -
Ooh Dida I'm very excited for you! Fingers crossed for you! Glad you enjoyed a 'date' yesterday as well - perfect last day just the two of you! Can't wait to hear the news of baby Dida's arrival.
Thanks again to all who have shared induction stories, it's really helpful. Snozbery it's especially useful to hear that you went straight on the drip and it was manageable - I think one if my biggest worries is the intense pain which people say the drip can cause, I'd really prefer not to have an epidural so it's good to know you managed mostly with the gas and air.
Anyway, that's a week away so there's still time yet....will definitely follow Dida's example and get two sweeps next week!!
Had a lovely day yesterday at a friend's BBQ, really good to get out and not think about 'where is the baby?' constantly!
Any nice plans for today?

I did have an epidural but that was after about 8 hours. I had no pain relief for the first few hours of being on the drip and then gas n air which made me feel drunk.
I had the epidural because I was making very slow progress.0 -
So glad your both doing well, it is scary how they change and develop in those nine months really. Hopefully they will give you the ok to stay home, just keep resting as much as possible, easier said than done with a newborn I know! I think it is just your luck on the day, the midwife I had when pushing was nice enough last time, certainly better than time before but they hadnt read my notes at all, which is frustrating whyou've been to a thousand and one consultant appointments, the aftercare was atrocious but he is here, we are all ok, he is now nearly 17months and next one due in 5 weeks!
Oh Mrsj, I hoped you or Dida would have news for us, but glad you had a good time and enjoyed yourself yesterday, a good thing with going over is that little bit of extra you time, best to just enjoy it baby will come when ready.
No plans for today really, just me and ds again as Dh on nightshifts and dd away for the weekend, not sure how much sleep Dh will get though as ds is running round shouting for his big sister! so cute!

good luck Dida - there's some progress!
Snoz glad to see you still have energy after giving birth. I'm so afraid I'll be useless and extremely tired.0
