Hello everyone...
Well put my maternity forms into work today. Have had a right mess getting my MAT B1 form. I saw my midwife last week for my 25 week appt and allll day kept saying to myself, form, form.
Of course I walked out completely forgetting to ask. Rang them Friday to be told it wasn't a problem, but it would need collecting as its a legal document and that someone would ring me when it was ready. Heard nothing, so rang back Monday, again heard nothing about collecting it, so rang back Tuesday, couldn't get through so hubby rang for me as I was at work and he was told the form had been posted
Luckily it came in the post yesterday as it all needed to be in at the end of this week. I'm due to the 23rd Sept and work in a school so was going to start my leave on the 3rd, the 1st day back but have decided to work the 3rd and 4th as it's admin day and then a inset day that I'm really interested in.
I didn't want to start a new school year for only 2 days with the students and then leave, thought they'd be better off starting a school year with the staff they'll have from the beginning. I work in a special needs school and have already moved classes due to unsafe behaviour from the students so would be also be a lot more vunerable at 37 weeks.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Hi everyone
Thought I'd move threads as I'm 25+1 now. I've been completely ignorant about the whole labour thing but I think it's time to face facts so I've been reading your tales and grimacing a little! Good luck everyone! It's my first and I'm a right wimp!
Really looking forward to this weekend. I'm finishing baby shopping at Mothercare and then sanding down all the woodwork in my house ready for a re-paint while the fella is in Spain with work! I'm so busy nesting all the time. I know it's a common thing but I can't believe how much I'm affected by it.
Everyday my partner is like 'I can't wait anymore' - him and me both it's too exciting although I have the odd 'what if I'm a terrible mother' thing! I didn't plan this baby and whilst he is very much wanted and we are in a perfectly fine position financially I'm not really known for my child skills! My partner has every faith and I think I do for the most part but what a strange blend of emotions I'm having.
All I know is I can't wait to meet him!0 -
Welcome bangton! I have been in denial about labour too, it just doesn't still feel real but baby is.due in 6days so i best get my head around things! I also have the same fears about what kind if mother ill make but i know i have plenty of.help, this is the first grandchild on both sides so my contact with children has been limited to friends babies. Tis all perfectly normal to have the wobbles from time to time!
Hope you are enjoying your date night mrsj, I've seen great gatsby, good show :-)Mum of 2 :j0 -
Have a fun date night mrsj!
Dida, sending you lots of labour vibes x
Claree - I've got gestational diabetes. I've been on insulin since 15 weeks. Basically the main thing is baby size, any extra sugar you take in your body won't be able to process and it goes to baby so a very close eye is kept on baby. I've had scans every 4 weeks up until 28 weeks and 2 weekly after that, I've also been at the maternity hospital every 2 weeks to see the diabetic team so they can monitor my bloods and sugar levels. I've been told I'm going to be induced at 38 weeks, although it can be earlier if they think baby is getting too big, thankfully baby has stayed fairly close to his expected size - I was told at 28 weeks that he was over a week ahead size wise but he's been just under a week ahead since then so they're happy. Hopefully your glucose tolerance will come back ok but if you need to ask anything then fire away.
I am officially on maternity leave! I worked a long day yesterday (so 07.30 to 21.00) and got in this morning to have my manager telling me that my bump had suddenly appeared overnight! Had lots of bump comments and was told I look properly pregnant now. Wait and see me turning into the GoodyearBlimp over the next 4 weeks!! So there were lots of hugs and goodbyes, even my patients joined in which was lovely. Then I picked girls up from childminders, we're taking the summer off so more goodbyes. I'm amazed I've made it through today without just becoming a big hormonal sobbing mess!Norn Iron Club member 273:beer:0 -

I had a lovely birth experience with my first baby and was induced with the gel, had my waters broke then put on the drip. It was 13 hours long and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My second baby, I had 3 sweeps, went to hospital to be induced because the sweeps hadn't worked, but I was already in labour, lasted 3 hours and it was horrible.
I would have the 13 hour induced labour over the 3 hour one any day! Lol

I don't know if this helps anyone but there are so many nasty birth stories out there - luckily not on here though.
Dd1 - 17 days late! Went into labour naturally around 10pm, waters popped in hospital and she arrived at 2:34am.
Dd2- 1 day early but had a sweep 3 days before (which was uncomfortable but didn't hurt). Waters went slowly the day before but hospital thought it was the back waters. Was due to be induced (due to waters) on my EDD but went into labour at 2am, hospital at 4am and she was out by 6am.
My mom told me before my first - labour does hurt but if its that bad why do so many people go on to have more children? She was right. It is painful but you get through it. I personally love labour, at the end of it you have performed a little miracle and nothing on this planet is better than when you've just had your baby and you hold them for the first time. My only bit of advice would be; when you start pushing - really go for it.
Can't wait for my turn again! :-) xxDD1 June 1997

Thank you AM - positive birth stories are what we need at the moment! A quick question - with your first - did they happily let you go beyond 14 days???? I have had quite a bit of pressure on me to be induced at this stage - despite the fact that I have had no complications. I feel at the moment like I am battling against a brick wall.
Just rang docs and waiting for her to get back to me about possibly having another sweep. Would rather try anything so that I can still have my fast fading homebirth before Monday!!! Failing that at least waiting a few more days before they induce me in hospital!
My OH is off today so we're going to go into town shopping - I now don't care if my waters break in front of anyone (in fact bring it on!!!) and for lunch! I'm also going to hang around Boots for the freebies you get if your waters break in store!!!:D (I am not this overly confident on my own mind you!!!).
Happy labour vibes to everyone in bold - esp Mrsj28 - but I expect she is all loved up from her dinner-date at the moment - unless Pizza Express has worked its labour magic....!;)

Just want to say Abis, what a lovely post about an indction. MrsJ - Remember that people are more inclined to talk about a 'horredous' birth experience and what one woman considers bad might be nothing compared to what another woman has had to go through.
If inductions were that awful, women wouldn't have them. You will be fine, even if baby needs a little encouragement tI had a lovely birth experience with my first baby and was induced with the gel, had my waters broke then put on the drip. Thanks so much ladies - it's great to hear positive experiences, especially about induction. I'm not worried about labour particularly, in fact I'm weirdly looking forward to it... it's the induction part that's been bothering me (especially if the pessary doesn't work and I have to go on the drip) but I'm feeling much more positive today and yesterday and there is still plenty of time for it to start naturally so I could be worrying unnecessarily!
Had a lovely date night last night, although sadly my waters did not break in the cinema/in Pizza Express!! Have started having mildly painful braxton hicks (they've never really hurt before) but I don't think that means anything so trying not to get over excited, although of course this morning I woke up feeling disappointed nothing had happened overnight!
Off for coffee with some of the girls from the NCT antenatal class today, should be lovely although I'll be a green eyed monster as over half have already had their babies!
Also going to make BB's lemon curd and raspberry cake again - to take to a friend's house this afternoon, so I won't be eating it all myself, although of course I'll help her a little bit...
Dida - hope you get that extra sweep and it works! Have a lovely day with your OH, and definitely see if you can get some freebies in Boots if your waters break
