I already have a pram from my first, but I'm undecided whether to get a rumble seat. I have an Uppababy Vista and you can clip on a 2nd seat, called a rumble seat so I don't need to go and buy a double buggy. Or should I just get a buggy board. My LO is going to be 19/20 mths old when no.2 pops out. Decisions, decisions!

My DS will be 23 months when new baby arrives and I'm getting a double buggy, he's 19 months at the minute and there's no way he'd be ready for a buggy board, I suppose it's how far you'd be walking etc, I tend to walk on school run, town, playgroup etc sometimes we can be out for a few hours and he ends up falling asleep, personally I think you'd be better getting the seat I'm sure someone else will have some experience of this :)

OMG I can't believe I'm 5th on the list already

I'm so bloomin tired, I wake up all the time and can't seem to get comfy, I know this is natures way of preparing me for sleepless nights but I'm looking forward to bump arriving so I can get more sleep. I think I got 3 hours last night. :(

I'm finding the thought of leaving work a bit daunting too. I like my job and colleagues and I'll miss seeing people. We don't have any family near us, it's just me an Hubby, once he is back to work I think I might get pretty lonely, all my friends work so it will just be me and baby. Money will be really tight once SMP kicks in and I won't be able to afford to go to any baby groups. It makes me feel a bit upset knowing I'll be lonely:( has anyone else dealt with this feeling?

On the up side we went to an active birth class at the hospital yesterday and it was really informative. I'm going to opt for a water birth if there is a pool available. There are 3 there so hopefully it won't be a problem. If not there are ative birth rooms with swings etc :o I'm feeling good about the birth now, I want to meet my baby!

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone had any advice for me about cloth nappies. This is our first and I always like the idea of them but not having had my own baby before I don't know if the practicalities are just not feasible for a newborn and tired mummy... My mum has been doing some research (super early as I'm 19 weeks tomorrow) and has found some second hand mother ease nappies for a good price. I saw the tots bots ones online and they look brilliant but are incredibly expensive. The mothercare ones are also really thin and don't look like they would be leak free. I guess what I'm asking is has anyone used both reusable and disposable and which was better? If reusable can you recommend any brands? Thanks!

Hi - I was going to buy some Totsbots but after doing quite a bit of research and costings - I have purchased 8 Charlie Bananas, some mid-priced ones with good reviews from Ebay and some real cheapy ones from Ebay (I think the cheapy ones were around £25 for 10 nappies!). I have also bought some microfleece liners from Ebay - to stuff the nappies with (the Charlie Bananas come with 2 liners each anyway). I figured whatever I found best, the liners would be great regardless (apparently they absorb 8 times their weight).

The Charlie Bananas feel really good quality - so hopefully they will be ok - I got them from Zulily - they regularly have them on offer.

I also purchased 3 mioboost liners for night time use incase the nappies leaked and a couple of back-up disposable packs of nappies just in case I was having a bad day with the reusables! But I am determined to give it my best shot! I washed them all at the weekend and they looked so cute hanging on the line - I've got ones with owls, flowers and patterns on as well as brightly coloured ones!:)

I did so much research - I hope the whole resuable thing works out - I reckon I have spent £180 in total on liners and nappies which will make it very cost effective if they do work out!

I used disposables for the first couple of months- only because we had some many freebies! I have now been using cloth full time since then. My LO is almost 14 mths. I would recommend getting a few different ones just in case one type leaks, I found this with certain brands, but then my LO changed shape and they worked again!

My favourite nappies for daytime are baba and boo pockets, not too expensive and so far bomb and leak proof apart from the one time my LO decided she was super thirsty and drank over 17oz in the space of an hour!!

For night time I use two parters- cloth nappy with waterproof outer, these are a little bit more hardwork, but hold everything in better. If you are tight on funds I would recommend getting two parters as they tend to be cheaper to buy and can be used for day and night time.

There are some many people selling them second hand on eBay, Gumtree or ask on freecycle. I would definitely recommend a nappy library if you have one in your area. Motherease airflow and rikki wraps are fab, I use totsbots flexitots with motherease wraps for night time. The all in one day nappies I have bambino mio, totsbots easyfits, baba and boos, bumgenius, itti bittis, some eBay cheapies, real easy. There are loads of different ones, there are some facebook groups as well where people give advice and sell nappies. HTH

Brilliant thanks guys! Ill make a note of them and once we have got our bums in gear on buying for baby I'll see which deals are on the individual brands. The little printed wrappers look so sweet I'm quite excited!

    Morning all.

For perineal massage, you can also use vitamin E oil instead of buying the "proper" stuff - just stick a pin in a vitamin E capsule and squeeze it out. I did it last time (well, I got DH to do the massaging as I couldn't reach very well :o) I still had a 2nd degree tear though, but that probably had a lot to do with DS being back to back and not turning on the way out.

I had a load of motherease nappies given to me for DS, but didn't really get on with them. DS went through a very wriggly phase when he hated having his nappy changed and it was a nightmare trying to get the fleece liner to stay in place while fastening the nappy, then get the wrap on over the top. So we gave up :( I'm going to give them another go with this baby though, and also planning on getting a few all in ones to try to see how we get on with those.

2 working days to go... :D

    Morning all

BigBird - woohoo for only two working days to go! Hope the last couple of days go well.

On cloth nappies... here is the thread Snozberry started a while ago with lots of useful info. There are a few other threads on the forum as well, if you go into the 'Money Saving Mums' section of the Families board you will find them:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4388437

I was wondering about the perineal massage thing... I asked our NCT teacher and she said there's no research to suggest it will stop you tearing, but what it might do is get you used to the sensation of being stretched (nice...) and won't do any harm. I haven't done it yet but might brave giving it a go this week!

I keep saying this, but I really AM going to get my hospital bag packed today!

    Good morning ladies :)

    Well where do I begin!!

    TMI.... BIRTH STORY

Lets start by saying baby Millie was welcomed to the world Saturday 18th May 2013 at 9.58am, 7lb 13oz. She is an absolutely gorgeous precious gift. I'm so in love with her.

So... Thursday 16th May was my mums birthday, we all went out for dinner and got home around 10pm. Friday morning at 5am I woke up with really wet pj bottoms... did I mention this on Friday?! Anyway, got changed and back into bed. I spent the whole of Friday out with my mum and little sister, shopping, walking, lunching and all the time I was very aware of the pains growing stronger and stronger. I kept thinking I just needed a wee because everytime I have had back ache I have really needed one. I got home around 5.15pm climbed into bed and had some paracetamol, OH got home at 5.30pm and had been sick at work and so climbed into bed next to me where we lay until 8pm.

Finally at 8pm decided to cook some dinner and by 9.30pm I was back in bed in agony! Since 8pm I had been timing the pains and there were quite spontaneous and there wasn't really a set timing to them, occasionally they were every 6 mins and then as close as 2 mins!

11pm and I finally decided to call labour suite. I was told to go straight in which I did and by 12pm I had been checked over and was 6cm! We went straight into a room and by 1.30am I got my wish of a pool!!

It took until 5am for me to be 10cm and then I started pushing.....2 hours later, 2 lots of diamorphine and constant gas and air and still no bubs :( My midwife finished her shift at 7am and the new midwife said my cervix was still thick in 1 spot which is why she couldnt get down.... anyway cut a long story short, I carried on pushing until about 9 and they decided assisted delivery was the only way forward.

I had the most amazing doctor and I can not thank her enough for what she did on the day, she respected my wishes of no epidural and unfortunately I got a 3rd degree tear :( lost lots of blood and they almost gave me a transfusion in theatre but thankfully that wasnt necessary. We were discharged at 3pm Sunday and have been home ever since :)

    I was 37 + 6 and luckily was prepared.

Sorry for the long post and details!!

Congrats niknok! Birth stories are still terrifying to me but I suppose I better get used to it!

Is it horrible to hope my baby comes early? Not mega early as in dangerous early but the idea of waiting about past my due date makes me so nervous.

Back at work today and my boss has told me to just tell the agency I was in yesterday so I don't lose any pay or holidays, how lovely :)
