LMM, gas and air was fantastic for me! Wonderful stuff! I'd rather take that down the pub with me than have a bottle of wine haha! xx

Ain't that the truth! Contractions on oxytocin are mental. I didn't realise that you normally have an epidural when you're induced that way and carried on merrily puffing on my gas and air wondering why it felt like I was trying to push Jupiter out of my arse.

You didn't have an epidural and were on the oxytocin drip? You must be rock hard! My pain threshold is so low, I had to have gas and air for the internal examinations! :D

Pleased to hear your LO is doing so well with his weight gain fluffnutter and not reacting to the pollen. :) Like you, I'm avoiding antihistamines, as not really sure what is safe to take in pregnancy - have felt like I've had a cold since the beginning of the pregnancy with the increased nasal congestion, but not liking the new itchiness and sore eyes.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

The GP was happy to prescribe me beconase so that might help you with the congestion. In the last few weeks, the midwife told me it was OK to take antihistamines because baby had finished developing by then. I googled the NHS advice and found that loratadine was the preferred option, with cetirizine as a second choice. I took the odd one in the last few weeks and Freddie has the right number of limbs so I guess it was OK.

Depends how far along you are I guess.

I've got to go for a scan tomorrow AM just to check the baby's ok, just a precaution. Another membrane sweep for 10.45am on Saturday, which I really really hope works, but if not then midwife appointment Tuesday and I've been booked in for an induction at 8am on 1 August  I have mixed feelings about this though because it will probably mean I can't have a water birth and I would rather baby came naturally. On the other hand, I really want baby to come. I don't know what to do.

On the NHS website and other websites it says your midwife is supposed to explain the pros and cons of induction to you before you go ahead with it. She didn't do this, unsurprisingly as she's not a great midwife. I just want to have baby asap and not have to go ahead with it but I feel that it's not a good idea to go too far past due date either. Any advice? :(

Hi I was induced With my DD (20 months ago). It was a failed induction and c-section. I would say to anyone who is being induced, if you want a natural birth and you are told when they examine you before your pessary that you are unfavourable, tell them you are going home for 2 days and come back when you are more favourable.

In my hospital you are induced at 10 days over. I was unfavourable (cervix high, not soft and 0-1cm dilated). After 3 attempts at induction I was exactly the same, so had a section.

I was in hospital for 2 nights while they attempted induction, with women around in labour. I had no sleep, then my baby arrived and a third night with zero sleep nearly pushed me over the edge.
  • BCS big hugs to you, I hope that you and your OH can work things out so that he will still be supportive of you and the children and will play an active role in their lives. I'm sorry to hear that you have been throgh this before, but hopefully it won't be exactly the same experience as last time. x

Robyn how exciting, keep us updated!

Fluff love the comments about experienced midwives, please keep them coming!

AMC Think Sexymouse summed up my thoughts on induction; the thing I remember them telling us at our antenatal classes about inductions related mainly to when they break your waters; the baby's head pressing down into the cervix gets your body used to the pain and gradually prepares the body for birth. When the waters are broken the natural pressure is suddenly intensified and so it is a lot more painful! I can't remember everything that was said but will be reading through my notes again over the weekend! I was actually one of those that wanted all the drugs that i could get tohelp with the pain, but having learnt what the effects are AFTER birth and how having pethidin or an epidural can affect babies natural instincts I would now like as natural a birth as possible. Of course, i realise that things may happen and they may have to intervene, but if I can I will be refusing inductions and the two aforementioned drugs! My main concern is that baby takes to breastfeeding and the dvd that we were shown had a study on this. They showed that if the baby is delviered 'naturally' and placed on your abdomen they will instinctively find their way tot he breast and suckle - babies that were born where pethidin or an epidural were used did not show the same instinct (as they were under the effects of the drug) and subsequently either had major problems breastfeeding or never took to it at all. Did I post this on here before? Sorry if I did, as you can tell it's something I am very concerned about!

Had a melt down when I got honme last night, was stuck in a traffic jam on the way home ofr about half an hour in the baking heat and got stressed. when I arrived home OH was still doing the flooring but the place was a tip - I expect mess whilst works are being done, but what i don't expect is empty crisp packets and empty beer bottles just randomly strewn around the place. It takes two seconds to put them in the bin. When I went out into the garden he had just thrown all the empty boxes of flooring and insulation all over the garden so I spent half an hour ripping up boxes and putting everything in the recycling. I have lost the will to live with the house now, no wonder my poor cat is stressed out and hides under the bed at the mo'.

Oh and one of the names I had chosen for a girl is now off the list - I have loved the name Lexi for years but now that I now one of the characters in Eastenders is going to be calling her daighter that it has put me right off. There'll be loads of little girls with the same name now! Ah well, back to the baby name book!
Hugs to all and hope you all manage to stay cool today!

That sounds tough. I worked with a woman who had terrible hayfever, but it disappeared for her whole pregnancy! (She did have morning sickness for about 35 weeks, so she needed some positives!)

Chrissy I hope things are going well with you, any news since losing your plug?

I had a reassurance scan today (32+) and mini_cub is looking good and is now 4lb. Discussed labour with mw and because my last labour was 6 hours for 2 babies despite having a helping hand she thinks I may be a fast labourer so to get to hospital as soon as things start - hopefully not for a while.

Lots of well wishes to everyone and labour vibes to all who want them.

No, nothing more to report! Today is my enforced Nesting Day. I say that because I hate cleaning with a passion. I am super keep to keep the laundry basket empty though and keep putting washes on, so maybe that is my natural nesting instinct??

Great news about your scan, Kitten.

My mum, bless her, bought some of those absorbancy pads for me to put on the bed in case my waters break on my lovely new mattress. She bought them from the mobility shop!!! How embarrassing is that!!

    Good luck Robyn!

I refused an induction at first. I went to hospital after contracting all night only for my labour to stall when I was there. They wanted to induce me (I was 41+1 with a history of raised BP) but as I was clearly in labour (albeit not established) I asked to be left for 24 hours to see if things got going on their own.

They did. I went home and six or so hours later my waters broke and I started with effective contractions and was 4cm dilated by the time I went back to hospital at teatime. Unfortunately I stalled in the early hours of the next day and stayed at 6cm for four hours. Hence the oxytocin drip. At some point, they can't leave you. They've got to get labour going again as it's too much of an infection risk to wander around with a 6cm gap in your fanny.

I'd definitely recommend trying to go into labour naturally though. If you can avoid an induction, do so.

TBH, mine was much better than usual although I'm not sure if that was due to being pg or because of the weather.
