Baby Flynn arrived after a 2 hour back to back labor weighing in at 8lb 15 oz at 3pm this afternoon. Waters went of their own accord at 6am this morning and labor started at 1.30pm :T (Or did my hot stuff help :rotfl:)

Mum and baby home and doing well.

Hope everyone is well and labor vibes to those next on that list :)

Speak to you all soon and take care.

Hi Baleb - I have just finished my NCT course - didn't want to do the NHS ones as round here I would have to go to a mega chavvy area for them and didn't want to end up with teenage mums - as snobby as it sounds I wanted to meet people in a similar situation to us (I have nothing against teenage mums but I wanted to meet people I would possibly go for a coffee with and have something in common to chat about).

I have to say that I am glad that I did - all parents at the class were of a similar age, had similar jobs and clearly shared similar values - also you get more time (I think the courses are nearly double the length of the NHS ones - or they are around here) and attention.

It has also given me the confidence to ensure that I know what is happening and to ask questions of medical professionals. In fact I am now even planning (note planning!) a home birth as I believe now that is right decision for me (although I was the only one on the course doing so, so you are not brainwashed or anything!).

On the NHS courses, there can be large groups whereas we were in a group of 12 (6 sets of parents) - which gave you time to ask things specific to your own circumstances. We saved £40 by not signing up to become members - we didn't feel that this was necessary so took it off when paying online.

Hope that helps - for me it was worth every penny and I would definitely recommend the NCT ones.
I went to NHS ones near us and although in not a great area there was only one non-working mum who was also a teenager. Everyone else was over 25 and I am still good friends with one of the other mums. We also went to lots of free mother and baby groups at surestart centres and library together. Strangely enough since they are free- there were no women there who were not working before having their babies (some chose not to return to work but that's not the point) It seems the teenagers don't generally turn up to any of these classes. They lack the self-confidence to go places without their mates and don't want to spend their time with us old women lol.
Also there were only 8 ladies on the antenatal course.
One point to consider though is what times are the classes as if your nhs ones are daytime you May prefer to go private so you can take daddy to be ;)
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.
    MFW OPd 2014 £2000 2013 £9700 2012 £2848.39 2011 £2509.58 2010 £11000 2009 £112002008 £4939 :D
Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013 :)

Thanks for this, very helpful. I think I will go for it, I like the idea about meeting other couples too. Although now you have me worried they will all be a lot older than me as I'm only 25!

    Congratulations chonorla!
