For my GTT, I had to take my own Lucozade and it had to be the Original flavour. It said what was needed on the letter that came confirming my appointment.
You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.
  • When I had my GTT last time we were given lucozade. A bit nicer than some of the weird tasting glucose drinks others got. :rotfl:Think it's the toss of a coin what your area does x

Oooh I hope I get Lucozade tomorrow instead of some disgusting NHS own brand glucose drink!!

Seriously worried about how I will cope not eating for so long... have put in an order with DH for a vat of macaroni cheese for dinner this evening, but I have to eat at six as I'll be out all evening, might take a cheeky sandwich to have before the 8.30pm deadline!!!

I was given the lucozade - if its not mentioned in the letter I would assume its provided? As I was gulping it down I noticed a huge box of lucozade bottles in the corner of the room - almost brought it back up at the sight of so much lucozade, lol..

Good luck, I failed by 0.2 of the reading and am now on the meter :( Its not too bad though.

Oh, and make sure they take the 2nd lot of blood after 2 hours, as mine was taken after 1.5hrs due to them being shortstaffed and overrun and Im sure thats why my reading was a little higher than the normal range! My meter readings have all been normal since I was placed on it..
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

Got my results and everything is normal so nothing to worry about :)

I got given original Lucozade at the hospital - which I thinkis a better option that some of the NHS glucose drinks but trying to drink 500ml in less than 5 minutes when you haven't eaten since 8pm the night before does make you feel quite sick!

Not bad at all though, its all done now :)

I don't know if it's just me or if every first time mum to be feels so nervous before every appointment just because I don't know what to expect! Everything always turns out ok but I hate not knowing whats going to happen!

The itching was just on my stomach but also my legs now, I end up scratching them and the past couple of days have scratched legs so much they have started to bleed - think maybe I'll go see Dr tomorrow (if I can get an apt that is!!)

Thanks Helen, that's really useful. Asda are doing Pampers size 2 jumbo (box of 80) for 2 for £20, so it's about 12p a nappy which seems to be the cheapest I can find at the moment.

About cotton wool and water... do you use cotton balls or cotton pads? Stupid question I know, but is one better/easier than the other?

All these minor details are starting to bother me!! Silly really as they are so unimportant, I think I'm just getting keen to be organised now.

the size 2 nappies may say the same weight but they are much longer so tey wee out of the legs. The shops will not run out of nappies so don't waste your money stocking up now when that brand might be unsuitable

get a cotton wool roll and pull chunks off it is much much cheaper. and get wipes for meconium water wont touch it.

stop scratting it will be the skin stretching and scratching causes nasty stretch marks. when you itch use moisturising cream, even if it is 10 times a day... anything will do. is it is bleeding your skin may become infected so just stop it! *said in my 'mum' voice*

Even within your local area the GTT thing might vary - one of our local hospitals provides the lucozade for you, the other (same NHS trust) tells you to bring yer own.

I hated using a cotton wool roll, there was nothing I found worse that trying to break more off if I needed more in the middle of changing a bum , I found the balls a lot better. I could just grab a handful and be done.

We use water on the meconium it was fine just make sure you use plenty of water.

Mrsj28, don't worry about the little thing, they will be fine, the hospital has extra of most thing so even if u do forget something they will more than likely have it, I ran out of maternity pads the first time, if I was u though I would recommended taking extra of these as it better to double them up at the beginning.

Ive got to go and buy a couple of tubs of milk and I'm done and waiting!!
  • Well I have finally graduated to this thread and would love it if someone would add me to the list: due 23 July and not sure what we're having yet - OH is convinced it's a girl, and I'm starting to think of the baby as a she too! Due for another scan at week 28 so hopefully we will know then!

I used the pleats and would break a load off, ball it up into balls and shove it in the top of the bag at the end of one change before doing the next one... well, while in hospital in order to keep their faces straight - once home I got back to the baby wipes of which I have a massive stockpile since we always buy up loads whenever they're on special offer.

Hospitals may push you to use your own stuff but won't see you short - we had an incident when I was in where I was running low on nappies and hubby was delayed getting in with a new pack (we'd packed based on an overnight stay - obviously being in a week threw things off a bit) because of the snow - they bailed me out on that occasion. I got off away from the meconium with DD1 - the NICU staff did it all (along with being highly impressed by a girl having the ability to pee out of a cot that is normally only seen in boys) - with DD2 it was nowhere near as bad as people make out. The one big nappy changing thing I learnt if you're on a post-natal ward where they like you to go into a special room to change nappies (the first hospital I gave birth at had this, the second gave you a changing mat to do it on the bed) - take a spare babygro and vest with you for ALL changes - in the event of a stealth nappy change newborn pee (or worse) you don't want to be stuck with a semi-naked newborn streaking back to your bed to try to find spare clothes as they've peed all over what they're wearing! (I got caught by this more than once - invariably at stupid o'clock in the morning when the resident battleaxe staff member would catch me trying desperately to find new clothes for the baby).

With the milk thing - the BBC's nicely scaremongering about these formula buying restrictions - our local supermarkets seem to be having minimal stock issues (our local Tesco regularly runs out of Cow and Gate anyway so it's normal levels for them) and it definitely seems to be the media making a story out of not very much at all so don't panic.
