Hi
onthebeach.
I had an ecv today (37 weeks exactly). It didn't work she would turn a quater turn then move back again. It was ok. It hurt a bit but was bearable and I feel a little bruised now. Was at the hospital for about 3 hrs as they monitor the heart trace for a while before and after.
Now we have to decide between a c-section or vaginal breech birth. Does anyone have any experience of either? What were your experiences?
Still waiting for a date to move house. Hoping to exchange contracts this week.
On the plus side I saw a breast feeding lady at the hospital and she gave me sone tiny syringes to try and hand express colostrum. My midwife suggested it as I have gestational diabetes and this can apparently make the baby slow to feed. It will hopefully mean the hospital won't give her formula.
Thanks
Carrie
Sorry, I've not read back so forgive me if I ask questions I should know the answer to...
Things to consider if deciding between a section or a vaginal birth. As pigpen says presentation is key: if the baby has its legs crossed or is a footling breach, a vaginal birth is not going to be easy because a) a foot can come out first which causes all sorts of problems and b) you need a nice head-shaped thing pressing on the cervix to encourage it to dilate fully (a bum can do this but a foot can't). If the baby's legs are folded straight up, a vaginal birth is certainly possible.
Other things to consider... is this your first baby? If not your first, you'll be a bit more 'stretched' and probably more confident at attempting a normal delivery.
Is the baby big? You mention diabetes which commonly increases birth weight.
I know that c-sections have a longer recovery time and most women do want to push out their babies, but if this if your first and it's a big babe then personally I'd opt for the section.
Entirely your choice though."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
My ECV didnt work today
So I am booked in for a c section on 27th Feb. Feeling a little bit mixed about it as glad we now have a date but worried about the surgery obviously and feel a little cheated that I can't have the water birth I wanted in the lovely midwife led maternity hospital 1 mile from my house and will instead be going to the big hospital 18 miles away0 -

Go visit the unit .. you may feel more confortable having been and looked around before you are trusting your body to them.
Make sure they check baby is still breech when you get there, there is lots of time for turning still.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Hello everyone.
Sorry to hear your ECV wasn't successful today iwannabeonthebeach. It's rubbish isn't it when you have to rethink your birth plans. As pigpen says there is still a chance LO could turn so will be keeping my fingers crossed.
Had consultant appointment today for GBS and they have said they want to give me antibiotics in labour and once baby is here keep me in for monitoring for 24 hours, so that scuppers my wanting to labour at home for as long as poss beforehand and 6 hour discharge after labour but baby's safety is first priority.
Mrs_b - hope the funeral went ok today, thinking of you.
Lurvlyloz - never too late to join in, welcome! If you want to be added to the list let us know your due date.
Helen - another thought on the midwife do to have drop in sessions in your area that you could pop along to if you wanted to be seen? I went to one of these when I was concerned about movements when my usual midwife was on holiday and I was inbetween appointments. Where I live they are held within children's centres.
Hope everyone else is ok and looking forward to the weekend. It's our last NCT session tomorrow.
QB 38 weeks! :eek:I :heart2: saving money0 -
Thankyou for thinking of us yesterday
Bean cooperated & we made it to the funeral for the entire day. It was a lovely send off for an amazing man & it was nice to spend the day with family. The worst bit was the number of times you have to explain that you're 10 days overdue, get the looks of sympathy, and explain all the old wives tales haven't worked (and there were plenty of old wives there with opinions!!!).
iwannabeonthebeach, I'm sorry the ECV didn't work. There's definitely still a chance baby could turn of their own accord from what I've been told & I'd definitely make sure they scan to check before they do the section because you might get a surprise!
I can't believe I've got to number 1 on the list! After we measured ahead at the scan we had at 30wks (despite my bump measuring spot on right through) & most midwives/nurses we've seen saying we'd not get to the original scan date (29th jan), I certainly wasn't expecting to be sat here 11 days overdue with a potential induction looming. I'm feeling pretty rough today & I've been quite crampy so I'm hoping that it's a sign things are going to get started soon.
Labour vibes to all of us who need them & hugs to those who need them too.

Glad it went ok mrs_B
I will still continue with spending time with my hips raised/on all fours in case she decides to flip, but having her come safely is the most important thing, however that happens.
Hope things move for you soon0 -
I know in our delivery suite they keep one of the crappy little scanners that's been declared too crud for the ante-natal scan clinic on standby to do quick position checks on any babies coming in... doesn't help when the little so-and-so then decides to flip round and go back to back after they've scanned her though!
We all have a stinking cold - little miss had it first for a couple of days and is still an angry ball of snot, and I suddenly got hit like a hammer by it yesterday - cue last night with tissues shoved up nose and not getting much sleep at all (hubby has the man-flu variant of it - but he can take Lemsip so is getting NOOOO sympathy!). Was also getting stomach pains all last night and so was bricking it in case things were happening early again - but I think they were just trapped wind.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
