  • Hmmm there must be some different guidance out there to the one I was looking at then. I think that's really bad. :( even NHS choices website says you have around 7 appointments if it is not your first baby.

Queen B - If I remember rightly helen - like myself has also been under Consultant care - so I know mine take that into consideration too - rightly or wrongly. As far as mine are concerned I have seen another professional. I agree its not the same, and we are seeing Consultants because we are high risk, so arguably we should be seen more. And no my Consultant did not do the same checks as the MW. It is quite worrying because anything can happen in such a large period of time but all mine said to me was call them or labor ward if I have any concerns :(

We are in short supply of MW's in our area too.

I'm also consultant led - they're less use than a chocolate fireguard, do no checks at all and a typical meeting is "you ok - right see you at X weeks" I've seen one at 12 weeks and not again until 32 weeks this pregnancy!

Double buggy my mum had ordered to keep at her house and reduce the amount of stuff we're carting up and down the country arrived unexpectedly (wasn't due till the end of next week) - so I've got that to open and check out when I get a minute... drowning in flipping pushchairs here! Got a Hauck up at my parents' they're selling on for me, an iCandy I'm meant to be photographing to get on gumtree but can never get round to doing so during the day and it's in the kids' room so I can't on a night, my B-dual in the kitchen, an umbrella stroller in the car that's going to go in the shed when this second baby's born, the double umbrella stroller in the hall to replace the one in the car and now this one I'm storing for 2-3 weeks till my mum's next down here again! Didn't think this was bad http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product-kato-twin-moss-grey/108304000/type-i/ for an occasional use one and for the price of it - considering double strollers seem to go for about £60 second-hand anyway locally (I can also nick this one if by some fluke the scan gender is wrong and I don't want to be rocking a pink girlie one as our backup buggy).
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!

I agree dizziblonde - I saw my Consultant at 16 weeks and then next week at nearly 33 weeks. Lovely man, who I have had with all of my pregnancies, but as he is concerned with my asthma, anaphlylaxia, fast labors and large babies, he doesn't really become much use until I am nearly full term!! I control the first two (asthma and anaphylaxia) quite well on my own and the second two I have absolutely no control over!!

I think you need to open your own baby shop too - I have never owned that many buggies and prams with all 4 of mine :rotfl:

    Hi ladies

How are we all today? I've a day off and am having a very lazy day.

I'm also consultant led and have found mine to be very good actually. I have still been seeing my mw every 4 weeks which she said will change after my next appt (at 32 weeks) to be seen more often thereafter - a few times now I've seen my mw on the Mon and consultant on the Wed! When I see the consultant, I get seen by a mw at the hospital at the same time and have urine and bp checked. When I've not had a scan before seeing the consultant, she's listened for hb and taken a measurement too. I think I'm very lucky with my consultant, as she also gave me her email address to contact her if I've any queries/concerns in between my appts with her.
It seems crazy that the same service varies so much across the country especially as there is no charge for it. Back home most people have private healthcare so it such a different system.

    Take care ladies
    Saf xx
  • Afternoon All,

I'm seeing my MW about every 3 weeks but then this is my first so I guess its just the norm guidelines they're following, not sure about consultant led stuff.

I'm in a very good mood today. Have done myself the most amazeballs lunch of smoked salmon pate (smoked salmon pcs, bit of philly and some lemon juice) on wholemeal rolls, so feeling a little angelic :rotfl:plus its the first bit of "pate" i've been allowed since I became preggers!

Plus I'm very excited about my first antenatal class tonight! Its a private course that we've paid for which came highly recommended so we thought its not a bad price and its our first baby so why not eh! Then we shall also do the NHS ones which begin on 22nd Feb - my husband is a sponge when it comes to new things he needs knowledge on :p

Wonder if the 2 ladies have had any movements with their births yet????

    Have a good afternoon

    Lou x
But I want a golden goose daddy and I want it right NOW!!!!!

    Yes Verucca dear. :rotfl:

Saffagal - I have friends allover the UK and I know our maternity care has differed quite significantly. At the end of the day they are only "guidelines" and I guess resources, staff and time will all dictate how closely the guidelines are followed. As long as the minimum is done, I guess it would be hard to question them or complain. Also I have had my (nearly 4) children over a 15 year period and I know things have changed just within my practice numerous times! Each time I go back with a new pregnancy, things are different!

    Enjoy your lazy day :)

Hey everyone :) I'm still here, 9 days overdue & no sign at present of Bean making an appearance anytime soon! I've had shows after each of my 3 sweeps, I've been losing my plug in bits since the first one & I've had some contractions on & off but my obscenely comfortable womb is showing no real signs of being vacated in the near future! Any news from any of the other boldies?

It's my Grandads funeral tomorrow so we're hoping Bean will behave & hang on (seen as we've lasted this long!) until after that now so that I can go :/ Its an hours drive each way so it's going to be an interesting one & it's Sod's law my waters will break at some point beforehand but I can keep my fingers crossed & hope I'll make it, at least to the church :)
