Elisabeth - I was a bit shocked about the gain XD he has been sleeping well during the night and feel a little guilty as I have woken him 2 out of 3 nights as it seemed too long for a newborn to sleep. HV told me not to worry as long as he's gaining nicely. He usually sleeps between feeds but hasn't been happy today. Just wants 5min of boob and goes back down. Wakes up soon after and wants another feed. He's had a bath with daddy... and poo'd over him! Lol.

Something I bought was vasaline... good for smothering on before a pee if you've had stitches. Didn't work everytime but it's worth a go.

I also got some tiny baby clothes just in case I had a small one or went early. These are the ones that actually fit him best!

I'd also suggest putting some clothes, pyjamas, pads and toiletries in one place in the house. I got caught out with my hospital stay so had to live with what OH could find.

Elizabeth, every time i go to sleep, i get up with numb fingers and they feel a bit swallen, my legs in the other hand are ok.

Arnica tablets are better than the cream? what about witch hazel sprayed in the maternity pad, doesnt it make it too wet and defeats the purpose? i mean the towel will get worse with all the "stuff" coming out.

Just a quickie....with the water retention business....does anyone else's hands swell up and give you sausage fingers? I started happening at night a while ago, now my fingers feel swollen most of the day..it makes my joints hurt a little too...not impressed!

Definitely. Most pregnant women struggle with any rings they wear. In fact, if yours are tight best to take them off now and not wear them now until after you've had the babe. Last thing you want is for your rings to have to be cut off :(

Something else to look out for is carpal tunnel syndrome which makes your fingers very painful. It's due to the swelling compressing the nerve in your wrist. I got a touch of it in my left hand and it made my little finger twang like an elastic band :D

I don't think the arnica tablets are 'better' than the cream but they will be absorbed right into the blood stream. I wouldn't put any cream down there after birth, especially if you have stitches, they advise you not to even use soap, just water, so I'd be wary of lathering cream on in case of infection x

I also thought at first that it might wet the pad too much but it was a god send for me. I had stitches all the way through, my labia tore top to bottom in some places, it was very sore and itchy / uncomfortable. I didn't drop the witch hazel full flow, but i dropped a few drops every inch or so, so I had a "line" of wet (but not damp) area. The first couple of days it felt sore and itchy, but it soon felt as if I were putting a cold pad on a bruise, so calming and refreshing!! I will buy more for general use when I get my period again, I really found it very refreshing and made me feel cleaner and fresh. What I used to do was to put the pad on the open neck of the bottle, tip it over, put back straight move a cm down the pad an repeat until I got the whole pad covered with a few drops all the way.

I had the arnica bath soak, well, I still.do, it will last ages, and it makes a lot of foam. I really liked it too!

Elisabeth - I know th aloe pads are expensive, but when I used them last time they were worth every penny :)

Please mention your swelling to your MW. Just in case it's a sign of something else.

Rubbish night here. Pregnancy insomnia combined with a fidgetty 23 month old who likes to be in with mummy and daddy :(

Pelvic floor exercises ladies (just a quick reminder)

Thank you marta, Thats what i meant, not arnica cream, the bath !! My brain is dead.... but i know that in the early days is so difficult to have a minute to yourself let alone to have the luxury of a bath.
I bought Arnica tablets from Amazon yesterday, so hopefully it heals from the inside and i add the WH on the outside ? Where abouts in tesco do i find it ? With creams and cosmetics ?

HM, ohh my DD is 5 and given the chance she gets herself inside my bed too. I had a good night . I havent done any pelvic floor exercises i am useless !

My MW asked yesterday how long did i wish to stay in hospital for after a normal delivery ? the minimun is 6 hs she said, there are not many beds and they like to discharge you quickly.
Last time, i had to stay 2 nights, they wouldnt let me go, and discharged myself agaisnt their wishes, dont know why, apart for some stitches i was fine, normal delivery. I remember very well how hard was to sleep, get painkillers or even get fed ! couldnt stand it.
This time with OH and DD i dont know if i will be better off at least having one day to myself and baby in hospital rather than coming home asap.

I am aiming for GTFO as fast as possible - friend was let out in 3 hours recently here (they were that short of beds)... if I can avoid the horridness of postnatal wards I'd be very very happy indeed! I figure I've done more than my fair share of time on them with a fortnight last time.

  • Well week 1 done - weight gain/ losses as expected and we have had lots of first for all of us, I am working my way through my birth story hope to get loaded by the end of the week.
Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect, you've just decided to see beyond the imperfection.....
  • Morning ladies,

morocha I didnt know that was something they asked (re hosp time). I would be requesting asap! This is my first but i can just imagine the noises of a ward and people coming and going and i would prefer to be home asap!

hngrymummy thanks for the reminder, plevic floor not what it used to be already and im only 28+3 :o

i have my WC jab this afternoon, and my 28 week mw appt tomorrow. Gotta love being poked with needles :D I'm assuming they take blood at the 28 week one, my veins are awful and tend to hide away so that'll be fun :)

Congrats to all the new mummies out there!!!
