MSE Pregnancy Club 25

This is a continuation of this thread which was closed due to it's length.

Official MoneySavingExpert.com Insert:

What's it about?

Back in July 06 Bailey started this thread to help all pregnant MoneySavers and their partners save on anything pregnancy-related plus give each other moral support. It's been hugely popular and now has a long list of pregnant mothers-to-be. Now it's not just for those that are pregnant but also those trying to conceive and MoneySavers that have probably already given birth and yet are probably too tired to let everyone know.

What should you do?

As well as being a great source of tips, baby-related bargains spotted, mutual support and help MoneySavers here have also gradually built up a list, adding themselves to one of these categories (the last one, people are moved to for obvious reasons!): If you want to add yourself to the list follow these steps:
  • Click on the link at the top of this page that says "Last" (it'll take you to the last page of the discussion)
  • Scroll down until you find the message with the very latest copy of the list in (if you use one further up the discussion other peoples' changes after that will be lost)
  • Copy that (highlight it and click control+c)
  • Click reply at the bottom of the thread to open a screen where you can past it (click control+p)
  • Add yourself to the list then click save
  • And don't feel shy. Introduce yourself, say hello and ask a question if you need to.
Plus, if you're thinking of how to cut down on nappy costs remember to have a read of the Nappy MoneySaving article too and for later down the line if you need childcare first read the Childcare Vouchers article.

Also please don't forget that this is a public forum and anyone could be reading it. Don't let this put you off discussing anything personal, just please be aware that the people posting on the thread may not be the only ones reading (it may just be that these people, aka lurkers, are too shy to post).

If you're new to the Forum it can look scattergun but read down and remember it's a conversation, starting with first post, scrolling forward for the latest. To reply you'll need to join the Forum but it's free to do.

Now enjoy your pg natter :D

    Freebies!
Ladies please remember the following rules :)

PERSONAL DETAILS AND THE OFFERING OF ITEMS FOR SALE/TRADE/EXCHANGE/SWAP/GIFTS

Please refrain from requesting the exchange of personal details either on the forum, via PM or email; particularly for the purposes of selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts. This includes posting links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.

If someone appears to be selling items on the board it may be deleted by the board guides/forum team. The aim is to protect site users as however honourable the intention, your safety is paramount.

    MEDICAL ADVICE

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com

    CODES/VOUCHERS:

For legal reasons codes are only permitted on the Discount Codes n Vouchers (Online and Offline) Board and must be sourced and indicated who it refers to. If in doubt please read this and this for an explanation. Any posts not meeting these rules will be moved. Do not pm others requesting such codes

    FREE TO JOIN BABY CLUBS:

Tesco Baby Club - Free Pampers Hamper containing a few wipes, nappy sample, some Olay stuff. You need to buy a pack of Pampers to get it, and it's not stocked in every store so check before you set off.

Boots Parenting Club - Free changing bag when you buy a pack of nappies, I think it's Huggies but it might be Pampers. You need to wait for the voucher to arrive.

Sainsburys Little Ones - Free Mum and Baby bundle with toiletries, to be collected from store.

Emma's Diary - You should get the vouchers in the pack from your midwife but if you don't or you want more freebies you can also register and download them here. 3 bags containing lots of samples and a can of Peartiser.

Cow and Gate - You get a free cuddly cow but you need to find a code, these are normally in Parenting mags so either have a look in the shop or on the Discount Codes board.

    Aptamil
    - Free cuddly polar bear.

Those are probably the main ones but have a look around as other places will send out vouchers, nappy samples etc. Also most of these will send you a voucher for money off nappies/wipes so keep an eye out for offers, I got 6 packs of Pampers Sensitive wipes for £1.66 with the £2 off voucher that came in my Bounty pack.

A more comprehensive list of freebies and vouchers is here.

Oh how exciting new thread. Despite reading how to add myself to the list I am not sure if you do it Emsbet. If so EDD is 29 September 2012. If I don't appear I will try to do it myself but likely to make a mess!

Candycane, you're pushing me down the list - thank you! Do you know what flavour you're having, or is it going to be a surprise?

DH felt the baby kick last night, we were sitting quietly on the sofa with his hand on my stomach, and baby obliged by giving him a boot. It was really amazing and we're still grinning about it :o

WHY does it start to thunderstorm just as I'm about to leave work?! It's not fair!

ooo new thread, thanks Emsbet . I don't think I've ever actually read the first post before, I just skip to the end. Thanks for the lists everyday too, I like to see my name slowly going up but I do feel cheated if someone joins ahead of me and I go back a place or two, like it will actually put back my due date :D

All going well here, started to feel little kicks that are getting more frequent and stronger, I think I've got a lively one :D. 20 week scan next week, still unsure about finding out what team I'm on. I really have no preference what so ever either way but I am sick of buying neutrals. I've bought a couple of blue bits cos they were cheap and I like blue more than pink anyway :p

Hope everyone else is ok. I don't think there is any danger of the heavily pregnant ladies suffering in the heat this summer!

    Good luck Rebekah! x

Great Sa-ra-ra-ra - I've started to have lots of flutters but not had anyone else feel them (not sure if I can feel them from outside actually, baby seems to stop moving if I try it!).

Candycane, you're pushing me down the list - thank you!

:rotfl::rotfl:I've just posted the exact opposite! Nothing personal Candycane but I'd really like to be at the top sooner rather than later (though I bet I'll change my tune in about 4 months time) :D

My mum had two perfectly normal straightforward pregnancies, yet I developed pre-eclampsia with DD1 - I suddenly swelled up (most noticeably my face, my eyes wouldn't open properly there was no mistaking it) and my blood pressure shot up at around 32 weeks, it was controlled with increasing doses of labetalol and twice-weekly monitoring until I went into labour naturally at 36 weeks. She was very healthy although only 5lb 7.

I've not heard of any hereditary links but they did ask me if any close relatives had high BP at my booking appointment? Hope the appointment tomorrow puts your mind at rest LadyM.

    Congratulations Fluffnutter!!

Thanks Nbirdy and sorry you had to go through that!

I don't get on with my birth family but I wanted to ask my mum if she had any problems during her pregnancy with me or any problems during birth as I know that some can be slightly hereditary.

    Hi LadyM,

I developed severe pre-eclampsia in my pregnancy and had my Daughter at 27+5 via a crash c-section. My Mum also had high blood pressure through-out all her pregnancies (5!) and the Consultant said if your Mum or Sister suffered in pregnancy you are more prone to suffering as well. You should be fine as long as you get regular BP checks and you sound like you're getting good care.

Just as some advice to all ladies, if you feel at all unwell or like 'something just isn't quite right' get checked out. I had no swelling, I'm a healthy weight and had no history of high blood pressure yet I still developed pre-eclampsia. Luckily the day I had Poppy I was seeing the Consultant anyway due to other problems and I remember feeling slightly unwell, just sick and tired, no headache though. I very nearly cancelled the appointment, I'm so glad I didn't! When I explained how I felt I was whisked to the Delivery Suite and my blood pressure was extremely high and climbing higher all the time. I had Poppy an hour later!

If you ever feel like something isn't quite right, get it checked!

Hope I haven't scared anyone, but I just wanted to share!

    Take care all.

    xx

    Thank you Jannine.

I have had severe headaches and my vision keeps going weird but that happens with the M.E so it's hard to know what is pregnancy related and what is M.E related, if that makes sense?
