tesco delivery-not happy with subs

Hi guys
Had my first proper tesco shop delivered and have had some items substituted, but I'm not really happy. Have heard of people calling up and being told to keep the item and they will get a refund, just wanted to check that this is definitely the case, is there a number of items that this can be done on, I have 7 different items.
Plus, can I complain about green bananas when i specically asked for yellow ones?
It's definitely not definately!

  • Now i might be wrong but i thought that substitutes had to be returned to the driver if you didnt want them, then he would take the amount off your bill...you may be getting confused with people getting extras in their shopping that tesco tell them to keep,as for green bananas do tesco sell anything other than green ones, keep them in a plastic bag and they will be yellow within 24 hours ?????
Will this hammy hunt ever end ???
    So far all 4 hamsters £40,3 beds £15,Skate board and u turn £22,House £25 total £97.00 ....still wanting wheel,car,slide,ball,surf board ....

I wish I could get green bananas from Tesco. I always get really yellow ones even though I specifically ask for green.

i know i shouldnt laugh but i'd heard about someone wanted a fresh lemon with their shopping there wasnt any so the subsitute that was given was a banana:rotfl: cos it was yellow (and its true)
  • I always email tesco if I receive something I'm not happy with. They do normally credit it back to your card and you get to keep the item. Don't forget in future fill in the substitutions list before confirming your order.

When you place your order you are given the option of putting no substitutions if you don't want them to send something different. My understanding is that is they do substitute an item and you don't want it, you should give it to the driver to take back. It does say at the top of the order if anything has been substituted, so it is easy to see quite quickly. I think keeping things that have been sent in error and were not meant for you is a different situation. In my experience that is when they just tell you to keep it.

Our Tesco driver always gets you to check the subs and if your not happy with them he will take them back with him.
I must be really lucky though as i rarely get anything substituted.

I agree that the driver should have asked you to look over the list of substitutes before you accept your shoping and that if you are not happy with them, he should take them back and you are not charged for them. I do call up about items I am not happy about, ususally fruit or veg not up to scratch.

I have a son who has many food allergies and have to tick no subs on many of the food I buy for him but yesterdays delivery took the micky when not 1 item I ordered for him arrived. Poor little guy (he's 2 1/2) had nothing to eat for lunch as the delivery came at 12.45pm and I had no way of getting to our nearest tesco (deliveries don't come from there) to buy his his loaf of bread. Poor kid ended up with a 2nd bowl of cereal for lunch. Then the kicker was that hubby stopped at our tesco on the way home from work to find that they didn't have his bread either and we had to buy a different one that he is not so keen on.

Not that I can really complain to Tesco as they didn't substitute as I asked them not too and they didn't charge me for the items I didn't get. Sounds like a problem with the dietary specials supplier.

Sorry for ranting on your rant!!
  • Hi

I am a 'shopper' for Tescos, and sometimes it's impossible to get the right colour bananas - you do get some odd requests LOL

You should hand any substitutions back to your driver, but I know people do complain about the slightest thing, and 'in my opinion' say things are missing - we need to scan the item to make it appear on your receipt so it needs to go somewhere LOL, it all get's fed back to the shopper and they are judged on complaints etc.. and I take it personally, I always look for the best dates, but as if I was a regular shopper, the dates aren't always great!!!

We also get assesed on how many substitutions we make (again, not our fault if it's not on the shelf LOL). If your bread wasn't in stock, a different type of bread should be given though as it is a key item.

  • Forgot to add - I 'think' Asda's refund your substitutions and you keep them - or something like that??
