Sorry about the fall. I'd write to them explaining the incident and about the flowers that were damaged. What caused you to fall, was it water, and item on the floor, or just a slippy floor? were there any signs saying 'slippy floor' or anything?
I don't think the basket thing is much of an issue, as you probably would have slipped without carrying the basket. I would ask for a replacement or refund on the flowers though.0 -

I don't understand why you took the basket back. The person in the kiosk is not the police force and has no power to make you do anything. You should've paid for your items and just left the basket there, if it was that big an issue for her she could easily have called for someone to come and get it. That, I think, would've been the customer-friendly thing to do.
If I were you I would certainly write a letter of complaint to the manager.

I thought that any business that had premises open to the public had to.
It's only Vehicle Insurance and Employers Liability (Assuming you have employees) that are compulsory. Hence why you get a Certificate (Legal document conforming to the Statutory requirements) confirming cover for these two covers.
Public Liability is entirely optional but strongly recommended, someone of Sainsburys size either self insure eg pay their own claims or have their own captive Insurer (Tax efficient and normally based offshore) or have cover with a normal Insurer but with a massive excess eg £15k upwards0 -
What difference does the basket make to the OP slipping ? She had exactly the same stuff with her as she did before she paid for it all. Surely the stuff she bought would have gone back in the basket ?
The OP is just peed off about the woman in the kiosk really, not letting the store put the accident in the book at the time was a mistake. The account of what happened is a bit too dramatic for me, sobs (uncontrollable), stinging pain, crying in the car, bad back, up all night in agony, declining a drink, anger, shock, embarrassment, blah blah blah.
OP, if you are going to make a complaint, keep it to the point, leave out the above, you'll probably get some vouchers. What would you like from them exactly ?0 -

Anyway, she finished the transaction, I paid for my shopping, and duly picked up my handbag, bunch of flowers, the 2 bags of shopping and the basket and walked to the door. Whilst walking past the security guard I slipped on the floor and fell to the ground with my knee taking the brunt of my fall and my shopping going everywhere. The security guard took ages to come to my assistance and looked almost embarrassed at having to do so which really annoyed me, so I managed to get myself up and immediately began crying and hobbling towards the door. I heard the customer services lady bing bong for a first aider to come to the store entrance straight away and she rushed over to see if I was ok, and a couple of minutes later the first aider arrived with a chair. I declined the offer to sit down at the store entrance in front of everyone to see (no shoppers came to my assistance either and chose to stare instead - who does that?!) and I was offered a drink of water. I explained through my uncontrollable sobs (caused by the stinging pain in my leg and the shock of the fall) that the woman at the kiosk had made me carry the basket and I was struggling with it as I already suffer from a bad back and she said she would 'have a word with her'. She asked me to fill out the accident book but I was so upset/angry/embarrassed/shocked that I let the ladt take my name and number and I left and cried in the car for 10 minutes before I could drive home. My back has kept me up all night in agony and I've got a big bruise on my knee. I also paid £7 for a bumch of flowers which were damaged when I fell. Should I write to the store manager to complain? Or somewhere else? I want to complain about:
a) the woman's attitude at the kiosk :mad:
b) the fact that I had been told to return my basket to the store entrance when clearly I would struggle to do so
c) the pathetic response of the security guard when I fell directly in front of him
d) the pain I'm now in as a result of the fall.
Any help appreciated.
I've removed some of that as it wasn't needed (eg the mentioning of the handbag minus a strap and the fact it was big/large )
A) You can mention about the attitude of the woman as it shouldn't happen
did you not think that teh reason you were asked to return the basket to the front of the store is the member of staff was by her self on the kiosk and leaving the basket in front of the kiosk would be a hazard for customers and behind the kiosk would be hazard for the member of staff.
C) the security guards are from an outside firm so not exactly employees but you can mention about his response, i expect the manager would bring it to the attention of the security in authority (if there is 1) or just the security guard himself
D) You can mention about the pain and the flowers and you could get soemthing for what happened
Question 1- you could have returned the basket to the front of the shop once paid or put the basket where it was meant to go to before your shopping was scanned.
Question 2 - Other shoppers weren't obliged to help, some people would and some wouldn't, maybe they didnt attend to your need as you were already being looked after/seen to.
I know its after the accident but you could have paid for your items at a normal till then gone to the kisok for a lottery ticket.0 -
well i would complain the woman could have offered to take the basket to the door for you, and why was she so abrupt with you it cost nothing to be nice you had a bad experiance at the store you should put it in writing
That's a ridiculous suggestion.
No salesperson would be allowed to leave a till (and probably a queue of shoppers) to take a basket back.
Every time I've used these tills, the assistant has asked me to take the basket back to the main pile.
There's not usually enough room to have piles of baskets around the kiosks.
We only have the OP's word that the SA was abrupt.OP, if you are going to make a complaint, keep it to the point

Perhaps the OP could say what she is expecting to come out of the complaint?
An apology?
A gesture of goodwill?
Compensation?
Disciplinary action against the kiosk SA and the security guard?0 -

I'm just wondering why the OP couldn't have taken the basket back first and then taken the rest of her stuff, or why not put the stuff into the basket and use that to carry the other items to the entrance and then take them out....or is that using common sense?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0
