Hi ABetterLife... welcome to the thread!
I know what you mean about savings taking a hit...
A horrible squaeking noise has jest developed in my clutch... estimates to fix it are coming in between £600 and £900  OWCH! That'll teach me for having a swanky sports car!! :rotfl: (before my MSE days I might add!!)
So, looks like I won't be putting much away this month - gutted as its rubbish timing with our next holiday coming up in just a few weeks!! Then again, suppose there's never really a good time!
How's everyone else getting on??

Thank you for welcoming me :-) sorry to hear you're going to have to dip into your savings/not save as much too! It's awful, isn't it! Hence why I've decided to find an ISA/locked savings account to open so I can deposit money in there too, then have my regular savings for emergencies.
I'm doing well so far :-) sold some stuff on eBay so currently have £69.40 in savings and £27.50 in savings jar. When that reaches £50, it'll go into the ISA and/or the regular savings account.New single Mum & student Nurse working for our future.

Nearing the end of the month once again -why did march seem so long...
Two months ahead with below contract amounts -this means either pulling things a bit tighter or using 'extras'
There may be a bright spot on the horizon though. Finally I get a chance of a regular extra shift at work!
Hope everyone else is doing ok?Back on the trains again!0 -
I started from scratch at the start of march. I have limited myselft o £5 a day and anything left over frm my wages at the end of the month got withdrawn and put into my savings. Currently at £285!Debt:

Hi billywhizz87-A good system -good luck to you.
Survived March. Also the yearly car service/MOT. Phew!
Heading to another 'budget aware' month. Trips are budgeted for this month (Easter hols -so a few train related days out)! So hopefully next month will not be so bad.
Once I get my extra day at work (fingers crossed) I intend to put a big chunk of wages towards the mortgage. This will mean we can afford to renew our kitchen and have a conservatory built on. I don't think its likely we will move so this is the next best thing!
Hope everyone else is doing well!Back on the trains again!0 -
A bit embarrasing posting again but it seems really quiet here this month, hopefully everyone has good things to do or is just busy with work/life and 'stuff'
The end of the month is nigh once again. Easter hols were good and I also had a week away from work.
Our trips were good and we also got a freebie. My uncle and ladyfriend were set to go on a railtour and decided it would be a too long and tiring day. This did mean an unexpected cost of packed lunch and a trip to the buffet car for bacon rolls and tea though. wWe had done the area before but was well worth a second go. The weather was gorgeous too.
Will hopefully catch up with you all into next month!Back on the trains again!0 -
Hi Everyone!!
Apologies for the absence, have just got home from an amazing holiday in Sri Lanka with OH... Absolutely fantastic time - and think I've got OH hooked on travelling!! Yay!! :j
Haven't got a great deal to update - replaced the clutch on the car last month and managed the usual £600 into savings this month - which I was pleased with as we budgeted for the holiday and were really disciplined not dipping into savings!!
I've just opened a new TSB plus account - it pays 5% interest on balances up to £2000, so I'm planning on having an emergency fund just sitting in there within the next few months...
So that's the update from us... Time to start planning the next holiday and start from scratch again!!!! :rotfl:
Lots of love,

Hi Shoot!
Another great holiday under your belt. Should have guessed you were off travelling! a money saving one to boot! Great your OH is hooked on travel too!
I'm no more forward on savings but the pot for yearly expenditure is looking healthy at the minute.
This month its time to haggle a deal on breakdown cover!Back on the trains again!0 -
Update!
I will be getting my extra day from June. So that's a great payrise (50% - as I work 2 days now.)!
Also haggled down my breakdown cover to a reasonable price (including home recovery)!
Not looking to actually go away this year. But will do the usual days out/overnight stays with my son. Not sure where yet. Could be Devon/Cornwall or Wales.
Hopefully if all goes well with my spending it will mean a conservatory in the summer.Back on the trains again!0 -
Great news on your extra shift at work Davenport!! That will make a huge difference - I'm sure you'll see the savings mount up in no time!!
We've done ok this month - did have a bit of a splash out this weekend when we bought ourselves an iPad mini and upgraded both of our phones whilst at the Apple store. Not very MSE but had saved for a treat and we've both had our previous phones for 4-5 years, so not going to stew over it!
Still managed the usual £300 into the regular saver and £300 into my long-term savings plans... Also put aside £350 for our next jolly to Frankfurt in July - all in all not a bad month!!
Hope everyone is well and doing ok!
Love,
