Yep, me this year.
I have had savings before but these have been spent on driving lessons, first car, then second car, then third car (never had a car loan!)
In January I inherited some money so now I am saving on top of that towards a deposit for my own place (Hopefully)
So since January 1st I have managed to save £1588.00 ( I have taken on a 2nd job, sold a few things on eBay, had a CPP refund and some money from OnePoll surveys - any extra penny is going into my savings )
My goal is to save £5000.00 this year so we shall see....!0 -
Don't want to speak too soon but looking good atm.
Half term is here and I exchanged some points for Red Spotted Hanky so thats a nice amount off tickets for our days out.
Payday this friday and this will be my last before my extra hours kick in.
I have deliberately kept my budget the same for the new amount. Also allowing a lower contract amount so even on the lowest hours my outgoings are covered. Plus some months a nice little extra!
I intend to put the first amount to yealy savings to give that a boost - this is my car, holiday, xmas fund.
Hope everyone esle is doing ok!Back on the trains again!0 -

A slight increase in savings this month. I put a small amount from spending money to this.
Hopefully a not too much month in the way of expenditure.
Fingers crossed!Back on the trains again!0 -
Oh, I'll join this thread as well!
I moved the UK six years ago to be with my partner with enough to get me going for a couple of months until I had a job. Started on a salary of just under £14k and my now-husband and I were renting privately in the South East (£600/month back then!) so I didn't have much left over to save at all. We moved in with a bed, a wardrobe and a table and chairs as well as a free telly from a work colleague...
The small amount I could save I put aside to pay my tuition fee loan off - around £6k - as I got a significant discount paying it all in one go when it was due rather than in instalments; saved me around £1.2k. We also got married; though this was a small affair and nowhere near what others pay for their weddings.
So... started from scratch yet again when the tuition fee loan was paid. In the meantime I got another job with a better salary so could put a bit more aside (as well as four pay rises over the years) and have just accepted a job with a 30% higher salary so am finally able to save a decent amount each month.
In recent months I was able to put away between £650 and £750, however, with my new salary I am hoping for around £1k/month at least. I'll also get quite a bit extra money from holidays owed to me and will have extra as I'm not entitled to join the new pension scheme for six months.
We need at least £30k to have a good deposit for a flat (2-beds are going for £230k here - and no doubt more in a couple of years) so a long way to go yet... We won't inherit anything from anywhere and have no relatives who could help in any way either so I better keep going!0 -

Hi dubs57 -welcome and well done!
Hi and welcome to other newbies too!
Nearing the end of the month and ok (ish)! A mishap in the car (my fault) will mean a claim on insurance and this would happen on the year I have a larger excess to pay.
Still I have just about completed my first month of an extra weekly shift. Its been fine just that i have to be more organised with shopping and meal planning (actually not bad for moneysaving anyway)!
Our summer rail getaway beckons and we are doing this first this year (Devon/Cornwall - great)!
Not going away for main hols either (funds were low and also have new kitty), but will holiday at home. We intend to do what we usually do when away though and go for days out (balancing it with days at home or local).
This will also be good for train travel (which we try and do when away and not use the car). We can purchase the excellent Anglia Ranger 3 in 7 days ticket and head to the Norfolk coast. So can get 3 really good value trips out of it.
Hope all is well with everyone else!Back on the trains again!0 -
Hi All, and a cautious 'things are going fine'
OH finally on board and handing me money to go into the saves each month - so that's upped totals a bit - must update stats!
Most advance tickets and accommadations booked for our trip just a few more tickets to get.
I did also miscalculate my first months new wages incorrectly (to my advantage)!
But next months will be less.:(
Money saving thoughts and wishes to all
