  • Hi LaLa 22,

Good for you starting to save at a young age! I am the grand old age of 47 and WISH I had started saving when I was in my early 20s as I would have a nice big pot of money by now. Alas I only saw the light about 6 or 7 years ago, but the pot is slowly growing.
Good luck and I will be following your progress!! :T
  • Hi all!
I hope january is not too much of a challenge for you! Nearly there for me as we get paid last day of the month.
I'm really pleased with how far I have come, maybe not so much in what I have saved (though thats good) but in my attitude to spending and that what I do does work!

Will update stats at end of the week.

GreenNinja - I echo that. Welcome and do follow our journey!
Would love to know if LaLa 22 is still about as that is what first caught my eye about this thread.

  • Updated!
I did loose a bit on savings but this is because I finally brought a washine machine! We had been renting for years and although at a low amount it was time to get rid of that monthly expense.

Otherwise I am quite pleased with things. I have a small amount spare to use each month if needed. I put £40 away from available spends each month. If any extra amount is not used it's swept into the mortgage overpay pot. Not much there atm but every little amount makes a difference.

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

  • Hi everyone,Have good news and bad news. The good news is that i have now £9005/10500 in the Credit Union. The bad news is that i went over a pothole in the car last night and had to pay £60 for a new tyre but didnt use a credit card and put it through the joint bank debit card instead so will have to pay the money back into the account when i get paid tomorrow, but these things happen i suppose!

Contact your local council's Highways Department and put in a claim for damage as they are legally obliged to maintain the highway under The Highways Act. Take photos and measurements of the pothole, provide precise accurate details of where and when the damage occurred and enclose a copy of bill from garage too. You may get your money back.

    Can I join in please?

We've just started saving after me returning to work from maternity leave. We've just sorted out small debts and our balance in the savings account is £643 with another £80 in the piggy bank.

I'm feeling super motivated to save so trying to keep the momentum going!

Well done everyone so far :)

Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm not sure how much I can contribute because you're all doing so well but I'll try!

Husband just came home from a finished homer and he'll be getting paid for it in around a week. That should be £200-230 to put away into the piggy bank.

My spending diary has come along well too- I'm totally into the habit of writing everything in now so I'll be able to notice where my problem spending areas are soon and cut down!

  • Anyone mind if I join you? I'm starting from scratch again - just had some medical bills that have wiped me out.:(

I guess that's what the emergency fund is for - at least I had the money available! I still have some cash in various other pots for the car etc but my emergency fund and the holiday fund are now pretty much starting at zero again.

I started the grocery challenges again in Jan and have been finding that very useful. I've also just started checking my everyday account every few days and rounding the amount down and sweeping the 'extra' into another account. That seems to be working quite well so far!

I'll get something back from my health fund for the surgery so will drop that straight back into savings - but hoping to save a fair bit this year.

    June 2020 GC $370.31/$700
