Shoot - what an amazing holiday that must have been. To add to that you stuck to budget. I am so impressed.
Fingers crossed for the MOT.
Well I had a chat with OH this week and he has agreed to put aside some money each week. This he is going to give to me. When I explained things he had realised there was a problem with him not putting money aside but he was putting his head in the sand. I think thats how I used to feel; I would count up the times 'I will start saving when' then get despondent that I had wasted a few months while doing just the opposite!
A major achievement as far as I am concerned!Back on the trains again!0 -
Hi All,
i am sure that i have posted on this thread once before, then ran away all scared..oops!
Thanks to davenport for commenting on my savings diary and reminding me of this thread
A little bit about me (taken from the 1st post on my savings diary, thought i would copy and paste instead of retyping):
I am 34 (eek!), a single mother of 2 and work as a self employed cleaner.
Earlier this year i became debt free and decided to start saving some money.
I saved about £200 and then my car failed its MOT in spectacular fashion, so my savings went back down to £0.
Now i am on a mission to save £5k, or as close to that as possible.
I am aiming for:
£1500- Car (i need a car for work, so i want to have enough in the bank to buy a cheap second hand one).
£2000- I desperately want to move house.
£1500-Emergency Pot (for white goods etc).
I am on a low income, so £5k is a lot of money to me! So far i have saved £520
It wont be quick, but i am just happy to be able to save something.
It's almost Christmas too...so i am not sure how much i will get saved in between now and December, but literally EVERY £ MATTERS!0 -
Hi WantToBeSE - great to see you over here! Will keep popping over to your diary to see how you are getting on!Back on the trains again!0

Its getting to the end of the month again (payday next Friday). I am sure some people look forward to this so they can spend. I look forward to see what I can save! What a change in attitude that is!
:T
With OH slightly more on board I have renewed my savings vows.
1st goal is still emergency 3 to 6 months salary. Although I did not get any extra hours at work my colleague is intending to do one day less next year so I will probably take this on.
After that I really want to put more money into paying off the mortgage. We only have seven years to go on what is probably a tiny mortgage these days BUT I would so love to be able to knock a few years off this!
I have got my spending organized into essential and saving for yearly expenditure. Plus I have been able to spend less this month. This is partly due to not having any trips out with my son but that is how it goes some months. This is what I allocate spending on first though -he's nearly 15 so I will make the most of this while he is still happy to go with me!
Will update at the end of the month. Good luck all!Back on the trains again!0 -
Me again! Hope all is well with everyone on the run up to christmas. I send you money saving wishes for this time of year that we put into practice all we have learned!:xmassmile
Ok, so have decided to put monthly extras amount as mortgage overpayments. This may get dipped into until my buffer amount is reached but its a start.Back on the trains again!0 -
Hi Davenport (and everyone else!). My savings are slowing down a bit on the run up to Christmas. I do plan on having £600 in savings as i enter the new year though, so i am very close.
I am not using any savings to pay for Christmas, so it's 'Crimbo on the Cheap' here!
But we are looking forward to it nevertheless!0 -
Hiya Gang!!
Glad to hear everyone is well!
Had a bit of a slow month with Christmas and another big holiday coming up, so savings have taken a bit of a back-seat this month... Not overly worried though, as it has been lovely to do some guilt-free spending on the people I love
So, I've just signed up to the "Save £12k in 2014" Challenge on the savings boards... Bit scary, but I honestly think that we can achieve £10,000 next year if we continue as we have this year... Who knows what will happen - but we've got to have something to aim for!
This would be the aim - £10,000 in savings accounts plus all our adventures in 2014 paid for in full!!
So, this is probably my last post for 2013... Scary!
We're off to South East Asia travelling now - get back in the middle of January... Can't wait - never been before so will be full of exciting new things!
Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas, and a happy, healthy, wealthy 2014!
Shoot xxx:T DEBT FREE AS OF APRIL 2013! :T"I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul"0 -

Hi All!
I have just finished reading this thread from start to finish and you all sound pretty cool!
I will try and keep it short and sweet ( don't want to bore everyone!) Me and my wife decided to start saving this year in July and after some false starts I think we have finally cracked the balance between Saving what you can and putting too much strain on yourself so you 'dip' into it.
Since July we have managed to save £3000 and by 31/12/2013 we should have around £3750, I will post the exact figure at the end of the month
All of your posts have inspired me to keep going and I will definitely be coming on here to see how every one is doing.
We have set our goal for next year which is £13000 (not including the savings we already have) so its going to be hard but well worth it.
I hope no one minds me putting in my two cents, its great to find like minded people just starting out!0
