  • Well done BATM!! glad to see you back! Seems like summer hit us all hard... Don't know where the time went!

Back on the wagon now though... ;)

We paid the deposit for Sri Lanka last week, :j so really need to knuckle down.
I have worked out that we need to save £500 per month to meet our target, which would include comfortable spending money too.......

 Let battle with the budgets commence!!

I'm still hoping to continue paying £300 per month into the ISA as a house deposit - this is a habit that I want to continue regardless of other aims/demands on our income. I see it as a fixed cost going out every month - it's lovely to see that figure rising steadily by 1% each month - slow and steady wins the race and all that!

Other than that not much news here!
I worked another chunk of overtime last month, so hoping that gets paid at the end of this month - should be somewhere in the region of £300 - straight to the holiday fund!
Plan is to go hard until Christmas/January and see where we are!! :D

    Hope everyone is well!! Xxx

  • Thanks Shoot For The moon, got 3days overtime myself there which will bring in an extra £210 in the next few wks.
  • Still not sure where those 'extras' go! Still will see whats left at the end of the month and there might actually be something.
Over contract amount to be in pay at end of month which is pretty good for the month after summer. Then the following month will be just under. Any over amount goes straight into 'extras' and (hopefully) stays there.

Renewed home insurance and got a good deal there. Though OH pays for this it means more can be spent on mortgage overpayments. Just in process of renewing car insurance.

More to update after payday! money saving wishes to all.
    Back on the trains again!

  • I am joining this thread, check out the signature for what I am saving for!

    Certainly driving lesson's next year!
  • Hi Twisted cherry and welcome. All savers from scratch and new ideas welcome!

A mixed month. Figures are looking good. Not increased but not below either.

I am trying to be more disciplined with any 'extras' These should be transferred asap into my second account. Making a note of these and hopefully putting them to good use. I seem to average a fair amount each month so thats as good as a few extra hours at work.
I had asked for more hours but I have not heard anything yet. It may be time to brooch the subject.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

  • I am starting to save from scratch. Got some money in a pot that I can not open. Also got some money in my savings account but going to try and put all my money into a pot so I can not touch it. Savings account is way to tempting!
  • Quick update now £1336/6000.Hope to have over £1500 in the next couple of wks.Going out for my B'day this Sat nt but have some money set aside for this.Getting there slowly but surely!
  • Had a major setback yesterday. Got tempting to go to town by my mates. Ended up in the casino. Was £10 up and then all of sudden went down by £85. So gutted, means it is going to be a tight month for me this month!
  • Hi Gang,

Sorry for being missing in action lately!! Have had a very hectic time at work - but ultimately have achieved a 6-month secondment to a unit where I'd really like to be full time - so has been well worth it!!

    Hope everyone is well!!

So, a quick update on the saving's front from me:

I have opened the First Direct Regular Saver account earning 6% interest on what I was saving as a house deposit - winner!!
So far, I've made the maximum deposit of £300 and hope to do this every month for the next year, which should result in £3600 plus £200 interest over the year...

Have managed to keep saving towards the holiday - this is our main focus at the moment £3,000 to go by April... Boosh!

I've also managed to get OH much more interested in the savings malarkey - she's switched her banking to FD for a "free" £125 bonus and a Regular Saver which she'll be maxing out as house deposit too!

She's also taking charge of our car savings, which are now sitting pretty at £800 (we both pay in £75 per month)

The next big aim is to save £3000 in a Lloyds Vantage Account as an "Emergency Fund" which will earn 3% and be our comfort blanket...

So, overall, it's a really exciting time for us - we still kick ourselves for being so frivolous with money and material things in the past - but we're both well under 30 - so at least habits are being formed early and the future is bright!! :D

Signature tells most of the story - we have a few piggy-bank pots eg. cars and treats with smaller amounts in - but these are "spendable" whereas the others are not to be touched!

  • Congratulations Shoot for the Moon.Glad your o/h is getting involved and youre helping each other out in your saving quest!I find it hard with my o/h as she earns less money than me cos she works part time and sometimes spends her money on things like clothes and bears esp online. However she doesnt drink or smoke and we would only go out every few wks so we save money that way.Good luck and will be following your progress in the next few months!
