  • Gd idea Shootforthemoon! Am going to put money away for my holiday in the middle of August from next wk onwards and have 4 bithdays in August as well including my newphews d/d o/h and sisters as well so its a busy month!
  • Wow!! Sounds like a busy month for you BATM!! :rotfl:

Thankfully just my wonderful brother's birthday in August. I bought him gig tickets and a T-Shirt a while back and have invited him down to Cornwall for a little surf and party, but as he has a busy life in London these days, not sure if he'll make it!!

Bought my premium bonds yesterday - was quick and easy online... Lets hope they'll be lucky for me :D

Can't wait for payday tomorrow. Honestly have no idea how much overtime I earned last month, so hoping for a nice amount for the savings pots!! ;)

Hope everyone is well - catch up after Payday weekend!!!

Hi all :) I've been reading through the thread and you all seem to be making great progress on the savings! I'd love to join you if there's room? It'll be tough for the next while, several August birthdays and our summer holiday (camping in County Wicklow, not very exotic but hopefully cheap and cheerful!) in 2 weeks, then school uniforms and nursery dinners and whatnot.... I'm slightly terrified! OH is a postie and I'm a SAHM, so we're on a budget already but I'm sure there's more we can do to save for emergencies and treat funds.

  • Hi All... And a very big welcome to Galeygoo!! :)

Well, another £300 into the ISA this month following payday - nice to see it starting to stack up!
I can't believe how much of my wages was going on student loan and debt repayments - when you see it in savings each month it really hits home! Still, better late than never I guess...

I've stashed a couple of hundred ready for Cornwall TOMORROW!! :T

And really good news on the overtime front... Just over £400 earned this month!! :D Thank you Glastonbury!!! :D
Straight in the holiday fund, also treating OH to a slap up dinner at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen when we're away (as a surprise)

So all is good on the Western front! Away for a week now, we've budgeted for the week in Cornwall, but fully intend to enjoy it and treat ourselves a little bit!

Hope everyone is well and savings are totting up nicely along the way!!

    Lots of MSE love!!

  • Thinking of taking a wee break for a few wks and coming back at the start of September.Had a setback this wk when my car failed the M.O.T.Think its gonna be dear as I need a new tyre and the 2 springs are away on the suspension which the mechanic says will take him 3-4hrs to put the new 1s in plus its £18.50 for a retest:mad:So gonna come back refreshed and more determined in a few wks time.
  • Hi to galeygoo and welcome.

Ahhh Broke! We have been here before methinks. Those pesky mot/car/fridges/expenses. Enjoy your break - thats exactly what we did.

ShootFor TheMoon - thinking of you in glorious Cornwall!
    Back on the trains again!

  • Thanks Davenport - and don't worry Broke - we're here for the downs as well as the ups in our savings adventures!! :grouphug:

So, Cornwall was amazing as expected - we splashed out a bit, so will be tightening the belt for the rest of this month!

In other news, we viewed our new allotment yesterday!! Yay!! A little patch of veg-growing heaven with our name on it... It's just a patch of grass at the moment, so will have some hard work to do to prepare it and should be in full flow by next year!!
The aim is to do it with very little outlay, all second-hand tools from family, freebies from Gumtree etc... It's only £80 for the year to rent the plot, so hopefully it will be fruitful and a little project to do together with both our families!! :)

Anyway, hope everyone is well and making progress with their goals!!

    Catch up soon!! x

  • Looks like its been quiet for a while.
Just back from our Scottish train trip. This was four days over a week. Two sleeper train trips up there (thanks to advance tickets) - and one back. Plus one non direct route back. The second two days were exceptionally fantastic! Wonderful scenery and great places. Lovely things to see. Lots of lovely memories of this summer with our south coast holiday as well.

So now back to reality! Though still at least one more trip to do next week, then September looks like a busy month as well.
    Back on the trains again!

  • The truth is out there!

Actually its in my signature. After August payday (and summer), this is where I am.

Some of this was hols, some school uniform. But I am quite happy as it could have been a lot worse! as above; I had a great summer and have some fantastic memories. Sometimes this is money saving - getting what you can (food, bills, other expenses), for as little as possible to be able to enjoy the things that really matter!
    Back on the trains again!

  • Well after a Hectic August IM BACK AGAIN!Am slightly down in my savings cos i needed £170 to pay for car repairs so rather than putting it on a c/c i took it out of my savings.Still owe £170 for school uniforms The bill came to £300 this yr which isnt bad for 3 children at school.Have paid £130 of this so far.Got a monthly grocery shop this morning which came to £140 out of my pay but will be putting £77 in the credit union tomorrow so my total at the minute stands at £1207/6000.Hoping to get up to £2000 by the end of October.
