  • Now Christmas is all done and dusted money wise I am joining this thread, as 2014 is going to be my saving year... :)
  • Hi davenport151, thanks for the warm welcome :hello:

I just thought I would pop on here and post my final stats for 2013 as I have now made all the savings I can for this year.......

    :j £3710 :j

We was hoping to save a bit more than that but we left online food shopping too late and ended up having to go to the supermarket and we always spend more in store than online (Its a very bad habit that we are both just as guilty of) :wall:

All in all I am happy with what we have achieved in 5 months, cant wait for next year to have a full 12 months........just hope the momentum continues after New Years!!!
  • Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Yr.Got my quote back for my extension and we have decided to start it next Spring, now have a total of 8761 saved up,going to try and get it up to 10,500 by the time i start my extension nxt March or April which means i will have to borrow less on my mortgage. Will have to start doing a bit of overtime in the New Year i think.

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi everybody :)

My £700 savings are still in tact, although i did treat my younger son to a new Nexus 7 this morning (£99 on carphone warehouse for a 16GB, which is a steal!), but that came out of my tips that i got from clients over Christmas :)

Looking forward to increasing my savings now that i have finished shopping/food shopping etc for Christmas and New Year :)

Quick update! Think I survived the Xmas spends. Pressie budget went according to plan as did food shopping. That is where I lost track of things. I will try and work out what was spent as extra so I can be more prepared next year. However I did not go into any saves only extras amount so not all bad. Renewed to saving for the coming year.
We did gain a new kitten to the family which did mean a few extra 'kitty essentials' though!
Broke -good luck with saving for that extension.
Money saving new year wishes to all!

  • Just wanted to wish every1 a Happy New Year and well done Davenport for sticking to your x-mas budget!
  • Thanks broke!
A pleasant New Year start was some interest in my savings account. I had stupidly not paid in the maximum amount and missed out on my Nationwide 6%, luckily I rectified this recently and got an unexpected return.

My stats are less than this time last year but I am hoping I am now wiser! I now list my spending so can see where its all going. I also have another account that I put those 'extras' in. At the end of the month any 'extras ' will be swept into this.

    Happy new Year all!

  • Hi everyone,Have good news and bad news. The good news is that i have now £9005/10500 in the Credit Union. The bad news is that i went over a pothole in the car last night and had to pay £60 for a new tyre but didnt use a credit card and put it through the joint bank debit card instead so will have to pay the money back into the account when i get paid tomorrow, but these things happen i suppose!
  • Ahh Broke! Darn those unexpected car/tyre/potholes!
Good news on the other front though.

Being cautious at the minute as January is a long month (seems like)!
Looking ahead I think this year we will attempt a couple of smaller breaks away in the summer. A couple of overnights further away perhaps. Having a new kitty I thought that would be a better idea. My son and I will still do the usual trips as well.

Think I missed out a couple of welcomes, Hi to Twisted Cherry and tilly23 - interesting idea.
hope 2014 is you money saving year!
    Back on the trains again!
