No - not in the slightest!

Reacher is an Ex Military Policeman, he feels disconnected to America due to his childhood as an 'Army Brat'. He lived all over the world but rarely in America. on leaving the service he takes off to 'discover' America taking just his toothbrush! (slight exaggeration, but not much). He is a real tough guy with the mind of Sherlock Holmes. The series is about the 'adventures' he has as he travels the country. Reacher also has a strong sense of duty and justice. The novels go along at a fast pace and can be quite violent - but the violence is justified as its aimed at the 'bad guy(s). There is also a convoluted plot and sometimes takes some working out.
You dont NEED to read them in order - but it helps!

Thanks. I might give them a go anyway in the vain hope there'll be a serial killer or 2 waiting in the wings:D

I haven't read these novels. I read the Twilight books (not a massive fan btw, just intrigued by all the fuss really) and no way would I have picked Kristen Stewart. It's not so much a physical thing, she just doesn't seem to exude the vunerability that the book character has. And she isn't that great an actress either.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

There is one that involves a particular killing storyline that you might enjoy. I worked out part of the 'how' but not what caused the actual deaths iyswim and I was sorely tempted to fast forward a few pages. (I didn't though. :D)

    Book is called 'Running Blind'.

I was gutted with The Da vinci code when they cast Tom Hanks no no no, not only was the film bad but the casting was so wrong, I imagined a an older character, more Sean Connery or someone like that.

I haven't read any of the Twilight books but I did see the first film and I thought that Kristen Stewart was the best thing in it! I thought she gave a very subtle and understated performance despite the terrible script. I did watch the second movie but it gave up after half an hour, I'm probably just too old for a teen vamp movie. I'm more of a True Blood fan, at least that has a little humour and some real men in it. ;)

And sometimes though the actors become the character even though completely different to how they are described in the book. I'm thinking specifically of Morse and Lewis here. John Thaw was much older than the way Morse was originally described, and Lewis in the books was middle aged and balding, not a youngish family man as portrayed by Kevin Whately.
  • I read The Bridges of Madison County when it first came out - probably about 20 years ago now. I loved it. When they brought the film out with Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood I was horrified - neither of them were at all how i'd imagined the characters. But i have to admit by the end of the film they had both convinced me. I've seen the film several times now and I think they're both great:)

That's the thing about great actors though, isn't it? It's not about how they actually look but how they can make you believe that they are the character.

Tom Cruise is a great action guy and I know that he does a lot of his own stunts but he's never going to be in Clint Eastwood's league as an actor. (Although there are some that would say that he's doing a pretty good job of convincing everyone that he's straight! :rotfl:)
