I have just thought of something - as the driver confirmed it was me who signed - I will ask him to describe my appearance especially as he has been back to the address to verify the house

Another interesting option I have found online is:

Tell the retailer/Delivery Company that you are prepared to involve the police and a graphologist if needs be

If the recipient (me) deliberately signed in another way it will still show up - similarly they will ask the driver for his signature and can determine from there

I think posed with this the Delivery Company may back down

I have no worries with this as I have not received this item full stop and was not there to sign for it

I'd also suggest keeping it in writing from now on. If you are communicating with the courier ask for the details of the courier driver so you can pass it on to the police. That may shake them into taking you seriously.

Here is what I have written to the Retailer:

    Hello

I know none of this is your fault and you have tried your best to resolve

I have no contract with the Delivery Company so as such I would like you to pass on my comments:

I intend to report this matter to the police as theft - or attempted fraud (regarding the signature)

In such cases the police will involve a Graphologist - this expert will be able to determine if for example - I signed for the item but 'faked' my signature

Similarly they will request a copy of the drivers signature or if he/she had an assistant their signature too

Also as this driver says he/she delivered to me can he/she provide a description of my appearance?

    Regards

My own personal opinion is that once a person starts making statements like
In such cases the police will involve a Graphologist - this expert will be able to determine if for example - I signed for the item but 'faked' my signature

I think a company may well write them off as 'odd' .

Personally I would make the letter more formal, don't tell them what will happen, make a simple statement that shows your intent to take the matter further. Keep it brief and keep to the facts. Also I am not sure 'regards' is the best way to end the letter, this is a formal business letter not personal correspondence.

Yes I'm being picky but the company needs to know they are dealing with someone who knows what they are doing so that they can give the matter their fullest attention.

If I was the business in question I would tell you, politely, to do one and go to the police if you like! As far as the business is concerned, even if the police turn up on the door step they have all the evidence they need.

I'm telling you now the police will not involve a graphologist and it's unlikely they would even do any more than issue you a crime number. They might phone the business or send a local officer there but as I said the business has all the proof it needs. They are not going to conduct an investigation and hire graphologists! It just makes you sound more like a customer who is trying it on and making idle threats that can't be backed up.

I will employ a graphologist if needs be!

I am not in the business of paying for things I have not received or having someone forge my signature

So as for 'doing one' - I won't be!

Absolutely, nothing wrong with that. And that is the civil route that I suggested you take in the first place. The police will not resolve this for you.

I'm not suggesting that you drop it completely. Look at it from the vendors point of view - as far as they are concerned they have evidence that it was delivered. It is your word against the couriers actual evidence. I run my own business and if a buyer sent me an email like that I would invite them to call the police. You really are wasting your time going down that route.

If I was you I would be down the couriers depot ASAP demanding to see someone in authority and asking them for all the proof. I think asking the driver to describe you is a good idea but you really need to do this directly with the courier company.

I have so far contacted two London based Graphologists

I await their responses to my email

I will take all of your advice

At this stage I will not visit the depot as that will negate the question of what I look like

I will keep you all updated

I had a problem with a delivary, the driver said i signed for my laptop, but i was out in local hospital.I complained to the company, and in the end i had to send copies of my signature,(passport) etc and they said they did not match the one from the delivary driver, and resent my laptop. So do not give up.
