  • Sorry for a noob question. I'm moving into a house with a BT line (though not active/paid for)

Im going to be renting the house for over a year. I have permission from the landlord to do whatever I want.

When I want to get sky broadband, what do I need to do? How do i activate the bt line, then do i just order sky as normal once i get the phone number of the bt line?

    Thanks

Hi I have had sky tv for over a year now, and broadband since november 2006. My sky satelite signal went down about 2 weeks ago. I live in a flat in a block, and the satelite dish was put in by an independant company appointed by the managing agents, so i pay the dish co a fixed fee monthly and i pay sky for the box and channels. I was not happy 2 weeks ago when sky went down, i called sky to see if they could do anthing, i had to go through lots of testing with my r/c to no avail, they said an engineer will have to call at my expense of £65 (which i was not happy about). the engineer called and said its the cable from the flat to the dish. So i had to call out the dish co (£50 call out charge) it was the cable from the flat to dish. I.m just not happy about paying out all this money and the sky programme charge of £50 monthly (includes B/B).
Anyone else had this kind of problem and what could I do to try ang get anything back.

so looking to have it all with SKY, is it really as bad as it sounds?

We phone Sky to move onto the Mid deal for broadband but were told on the phone that they had not reached our area yet but it looked as though they would by May. Sky advised that they could only offer their Connect package at c. £17 per month and a £40 connection fee.

Whilst on the phone to SKY, I put in our telephone number (online) to check whether the broadband offer was available in the area. The site confirmed that it was not, but offered the Connect package at £5 per month and a £20 connection fee. I mentioned this with the Sky advisor, who was not aware that the packaged was on offer, but checked with his supervisor who confirmed that they could provide me with the internet offer. Once the Mid package is available in the area, we will be automatically switched over.

It is certainly worth checking the web site, and in particualr the section where you test your line for broadband suitability prior to phoning Sky, in case of a better offer being available.

Apparently Sky broadband is not open to residents of my city, however I can get Sky Connect. What's the difference exactly?

  • I have similar problems to the initial problem on this post. I called sky asking for a short term contract for tv and bb. I was recomended the £26 package and all was booked.
To be brief, the TV was installed, but no bb or sky talk. I called to ask where they were and was told they were all 12 month contracts (I'd been told when ordering it was 3 month....I recorded this initial phone call). After weeks of me, consumer direct and trading standards all calling/writing, they have cut me off, and charged me £42 for 2 months TV only. I would never have paid this for just TV and have been left with no bb for months. No apologies, just "all our contracts are 12 months...no exceptions" Despite me having a recording of the initial phone call where the sales "advisor" repeatedly confirms a 3 month minimum.
To add insult to injury, When they cancelled you normally are left with a Freesat service, but we have got nothing.

All Trading Standards have advised me is to pursue them through the courts for any loss as they have not overcharged me as the TV alone is £21 p.m.
I thought T.S. would at least want to pursue them over their lieing sales staff, but no.
    Grrrrr
