I find even 'pregnant to' a bit odd ('pregnant' for even more so), I think that must be a regional or generational thing too.

In what way is that "fortunate" - for anyone?

Maybe the poster means fortunate in that the son and daughter will never end up dating? I have a half brother I've never met and my mum made a point of asking my husband's age when I first met him as he has the same name as my half brother did.

A colloquialism, apparently. Not sure what 'region' it's from though
The OP was shopping in Manchester, if that's any help.

I'd never heard of it before today.

Anything but "pregnant by" sounds wrong to me.

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Same here, and don't get me started on 'we're' pregnant

Sorry, that was me - wrong choice of words I know. I suppose I meant it was fortunate for my ex-husband that he was not found out to be a 2 timing rat with 2 babies born months apart. I suppose I should have realised that leopards don't change their spots, but that's an entirely separate story!

Not being pedantic, genuinely wondering is "Pregnant For" a common phrase? I've never heard it before unless it is due to surrogacy but OP has used this phrase twice so it's obviously not a typo. I've heard of "Pregnant To Him" but never "Pregnant FOR Him".

It kind of sounds like a favour or something!

i do hear a variation of it here in Ireland too, esp among single mums..."im pregnant"...."who are you having it for" :D

I totally agree with you, that phrase winds me up too.

When my friends husband made all the calls after their son was born he said 'we have just had the baby'. Most people responded with 'wow mate that must have hurt'. Then were taken aback a bit when he said 'It did actually, I fainted when I saw the epidural needle, banged my head as I hit the floor and had to spend some time in A&E'.

After he had recovered in A&E he visited his wife and son and told her he was off home to recover as it had been one tough ordeal. Which sane bloke says that to his wife when she has just delivered a 9lb baby. He is such a muppet :D
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
