I've remembered some other Value/Smartprice things I buy:
    Runny honey (for baking)
    Jam/marmalade (for baking)
    Tinned sweetcorn
Smoked salmon offcuts (good for pasta sauces)
Bacon offcuts (good for pasta sauces/risotto)
    Fizzy water

BTW, greenpixey, I have often seen it said on here that value vodka passed a few times through a Brita filter tastes just like the posh stuff ;) (think that tip came from Ticklemouse, cheers TM!)

I can only think of a few items but these are some that we buy and find just as good as the expensive brands.
    Asda Smart Price:

    <snip>
    80 Teabags for 29p
    <snip>

:T After reading the rest of the posts I started to think I was the only one who liked SP Tea!!

    We buy ASDA SP:

    bananas
    peppers
    apples
    tomatoes
    mushrooms
    kidney beans
    baked beans
tinned toms (not chopped - not worth the extra pennies, can chop 'em myself!)
    cottage cheese (DH loves this)
    coffee
    All their biccies
    mayo
    tom ketchup
    self raising and plain flour
    all tinned fruit
    scrubby washing up things
    washing powder
washing up liquid ( I dont mind it being a little watery)
    teabags (yay!)
butter (DH says its good, I don't eat it so can't comment)
    vinegar (for cleaning)
    oats
mature cheese (again, DH eats this and says its good)
    natural yog
    frozen peas
complete dog food biccie things (dog seems to like them, again - not tried 'em myself!)
    Loo rolls
    Baby wipes
Instant whippy angel delight type things (7p!!)

Only SP thing I refuse to buy:

    Pasta sauce (awful!)

I like the Value pasta - though I've noticed a lot of people on the thread don't like it.

I also like the Value sultanas. I buy them frequently, supposedly "just in case" I want to make a fruit cake. I have to confess that most of them just end up inside me :o - whenever I am in the kitchen I grab a handful, so I suppose it's not really very money-saving.

I agree with another poster - the Value microfibre packs of 3 are rubbish. I bought Tescos own range 97p individual ones which are lovely and soft, work really well, and are bigger than the value ones.

I tried the value bacon last week and it was very good quality. On the packet though it does say that it could contain either unsmoked or smoked so you have no choice. I bought it for cooking with but family ate in in sandwiches.
business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527
'I had a black dog, his name was depression".

  • Wouldn't recommend the three pack microfibre cloths though - they're more like old fashioned dishcloths and don't really polish things properly.

They are great as boosters/inserts when using cloth nappies, very absorbant!

I got them for that sole purpose as I didnt want to pay out £3-£5 ish for one or two 'ready made' inserts!
  • Anything EXCEPT mayonnaise

But especially good are tins of veggies, tomatoes, beans etc. :T

baby wipes are a no as ds skin is so sensitive hence the reason we do not use the washing powder
