Hello....I don't often post on the OS board but would like to say I enjoy Sainsburys:

    * Chopped & plum tinned tomatoes in the Basics range

    * The Sainsburys 'Basics' apples in fact I went right off apples for a while till I started eating these, now I have one every day. Very crisp, not waxed & polished to within an inch of their lives, and basically very enjoyable!

    * Sainsburys Basics hand cream is very VERY good value for money, it's pretty good stuff (but I didn't buy it again as I wasn't sure about the animal welfare thing...)

    * Sainsburys sweetcorn in water, 26p for 330g (I think that's the weight, about 300g anyway), I don't buy any other type, this is absolutely fine.

    * Basics orange juice 1 litre carton - don't buy anything else, this is fine.

That's all I can think of straight off but will come back & add more if I try some more or remember some others.

Great thread by the way! :)

    Hi B-S

I'm a bit of an avid Tesco Value shopper.. Here's what we gladly eat month in month out from the value range:

    Do Like:
    Basmati Rice
    Chicken Flavour Noodles
    Oven Chips
    Chicken Nuggets
Sanitary towels :o(I actually prefer them as they're uuuber soft and cotton like - the old style dr whites you used to get... like them??)
Baby Botty Wipes (handy round the house too)
    Kitchen Roll
    Tinned Toms
    Potatoes
    Sultanas
    Weetabix
    Bran Flakes
    Porridge Oats
    Bio Washing Powder
    Washing Up Liquid
    Pan Scourers
    Fabric Conditioner
    Garlic Bread
Bananas (though we rarely buy 'nanas anymore)
    Broccoli
    Big Bags of Potato
    Bags of Carrots
    Tomato Soup (funny note below)
Bread Rolls (though they are sweet for some reason and go off quickly)
    Frozen Sweetcorn
    Pizza Bases
    Mature Cheddar Cheese
    All their biscuits are nice
    Jaffa Cakes
    Tortilla Chips (yuummmmm)
    Ready Salted Crisps
Chocolate Biscuit Bars (like Penguin bars...?)
    Vanilla Ice Cream
    Yorkshire Puddings
    Gravy Granules
    Plain and SR Flour
    Batter Mix
    Tin Foil
    Cling Film
    Sausage Rolls
    Crunchy Peanut Butter
    Tinned Tuna
    Longlife Orange Juice
    Longlife Apple Juice
    Cat Biscuit
    Custard
    Rice Pudding

I'd also buy their Penne Pasta if the big bags didn't work out cheaper

    Don't like:
    Tea Bags
Beans - DH refuses to eat the as they're to 'runny'
Eggs - simply because they are battery farmed, nothing else
    Frozen Peas (waaaay to mushy)

Tomato Soup Note: This has become a legend in our house. When we first moved into our current home we had a bonfire night party. On the 'el cheapo' we fed everyone value tomatoe soup with value rolls in value cups. Every year since if we mention a Bonfire night party at ours everyone asks for that lovely soup we gave them the first year. The suprise on their face when I tell them it was value is worthwhile spilling the beans for every time!

Tesco Value Batter Mix - makes absolutely perfect Yorkies.

Outrageously they increased the price this month by a massive 10%

Do Tesco sell anything cheaper than 11p ?

We tried Co-op "everyday tissues" and they are so thin you could probably use them for tracing paper!! And the two ply splits so you end up with two really thin tissues for every one you pull out of the box!!

I tried ASDA Smart Price kitchen towels - big mistake - so thin, I used twice as many. I traded back up to the "normal" ASDA own-brand ones.

However, I have found that, for the most part, their Smart Price "value" range is perfectly OK.

ASDA's packets of noodles are just 8p as well. ISTR that their tinned spaghetti and/or spaghetti hoops are the same, if not 7p.

I value shop at Asda loads! Here's the Smart Price stuff I like:

    mild white cheddar cheese
    low fat yoghurts
fruit bags (pears, bananas, apples, oranges)
    rich tea biscuits
    digestive bar biscuit things
    baked beans
    tinned tomatoes
    passata
    baps
scotch pancakes (my kids LOVE these)
    pitta breads
    ready salted crisps
    orange squash
    washing up liquid
and my favourite is ... fruit and fibre - its goreous!!

We used to use kids fromage frais, apple juice and some kids bits but I started to feel guilty as they have more preservatives in so I switched to the Asda own brand as opposed to smart price.

I definitley second the "avoid Tesco value rice cripsies", they tasted absolutely vile and totally out me off any Tesco value stuff at all to be honest.

Thats all I can think of for now.

I can only think of a few items but these are some that we buy and find just as good as the expensive brands.
    Asda Smart Price:

    20 Nappies for 1.48
    80 Teabags for 29p
    Chocolate spread
    Fruit fromage frais
    Mushrooms 750g for 1.18
    Mild white cheddar
    Gingernut bisquits
    Digestives
    custard cream
    Ketchup
eggs (not as nice as organic, but eatable)
vodka (mixed with coke, not much difference)

    Hi All,

From Asda Smart Price, I also find pretty much all of the bagged sweets (Wine Gums, Midget Gems etc) are very good and only about 30p on average for a 175g bag!

The normal Asda own brand Cola I find very good too, its meant to be £1.54 for the 4 pack 2 litres, but in our local Asda (yet not online strangely) the single 2 litre ones are on offer 3 for £1 which works out cheaper. Even then, there is some error on the till as they work out as 97p for 3 as the till subtracts 32p for the offer, rather than 29p!

Have to give the Smartprice one a go one day, seeing as its only 21p for 2 litres!

    Cheers

Tesco value skimmed milk is great at 38p per litre. Also (I think no one has mentioned it) tesco value golden syrup for baking - it's a good bit cheaper than the others.

Wouldn't recommend the three pack microfibre cloths though - they're more like old fashioned dishcloths and don't really polish things properly.

    Good thread by the way

haven't seen the value golden syrup at my local Tesco's. I wonder how they work out what Value items will sell in different stores?
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J
