I'll try to think of some of the Value things I have bought so far and what I think of them:
Loo rolls - Quite surprised by these, they are not as bad as I thought. Will buy again.
Tea Bags - I don't drink tea but my boyfriend does and he didn't moan about them so they must be OK (either that or he was being polite).
Coffee - Yuk Yuk Yuk. Tastes like the coffee from Poundland. I'll stick to the stuff I know.
Mince - OK if mixing with a sauce for a bolognese or if your really broke and have to stick to a tight budget.
Bacon - No different to any other bacon.
Mixed herbs - Great do different to any other mixed herbs.
Powdered milk - Again no different.
Pasta - OK but needs boiling longer than other pastas.
Lasagne sheets - Exactly the same as any other brand.
Ready Meals (corned beef hash) - OK if your fed up of sandwich at lunch time and have access to a microwave - didn't taste too bad.
Chips - Not as nice as home made or other frozen brands.
Washing Powder - Didn't get my clothes as clean as other powders and didn't smell clean either.
Fabric Conditioner - Great value, did the job and worked brilliantly.

Thats all I can remember for now.

With baked beans I do trade the extra taste and buy value. They are not the best, but not 30p better!

I buy the absolute cheapest baked beans and when reheating add a squirt of tom puree (can't be more than a penny) and a shake of Lea & Perrins. (Or a handful of sultanas and a teaspoonful of mild curry powder.)

Having thought about it, actually I've nixed Sainsburys Basic beans because they were hard - although that was about 5 years ago, so maybe I should give them another go now, if they pass the price test! :)
  • I discovered Asda smart price BRIE cheese yesterday! .67p and it's lovely! I really recommend it.

We've tried both tesco value and asda smartprice and tesco wins by miles as the asda stuff just tastes yuk to us. We buy pretty much everything value except mayonnaise and red sauce. 16p for a pack of spaghetti? 17p for a tin of beans? BARGAIN!

Edit to say we do buy surf washing liquid though as didn't get on with the value washing liquid but the sensitive fabric conditioner is fab and just as good as comfort.

The normal Asda own brand Cola I find very good too, its meant to be £1.54 for the 4 pack 2 litres, but in our local Asda (yet not online strangely) the single 2 litre ones are on offer 3 for £1 which works out cheaper. Even then, there is some error on the till as they work out as 97p for 3 as the till subtracts 32p for the offer, rather than 29p

    Hi All,

Slightly O/T, but just to correct my earlier post the Cola is now 49p a bottle, and is correctly going through the tills as 3 for £1, until 31/12/2007 and is also available online at that price!

    Cheers
