Any ideas how to make a bitter pepper more palatable or do I have to bin it (not very OS I know but they are truly awful).
I don't bother with the traffic light packs of peppers because I don't like green ones - so I have to go for separate red ones which locally range between 69p and 75p each. Mind you I do root about for the biggest I can find for the price!0 -
Organic wanabe, I used to buy those peppers from Sainsburys but I found that there would usually be 2 or 3 green peppers in a pack. I really dislike green pepper as it is so bitter and would end up throwing them away. Now that definitely isn't moneysaving! I think they used to be 64p each (are much dearer now) in Sainsburys so sometimes I would buy just the one and I would choose the biggest one I could find. Either an orange or a yellow one.
Then I realised that M&S (where I work) sell packs of 3 extra sweet peppers for £1.79. With my discount it works out about 47p each so cheaper than Sainsburys so I started buying them there as they come with one red, one yellow and one orange pepper, yum! I make a lot of pasta and spaghetti as its easy to cook, I love it and the colours make it look great.
Generally I go to Sainsburys every 4-5 days, (not this month as I'm doing the Grocery Challenge) and I just get a couple of bits and go. I always check the peppers as sometimes they can have a pack that has 4 red or yellow peppers and only one green so then I get a pack.
One time I went into Sainsburys and looked at the peppers like I always do and the basic packs in stock had only yellow and orange peppers, I was in heaven! I grabbed 3 packs and I couldn't keep the smile off my face.:j
I would have bought more if I had the freezer space!
They have jumped up in price recently, is it a seasonal thing? They used to be 89p for the Basics pack and now they are £1.05. The single ones have jumped up in price too though I don't buy them anymore. I never want just one, I love peppers!:o0 -
I always thought green peppers turned to red anyway if you left them to it, but I'm probably wrong - they don't hang around long enough in our house for me to find out.
ASDA SP stuff I buy regularly...
Piccallili
Pickled onions
Kitchen Roll
Instant hot chocolate
Tinned sausage casserole (my 17 year old son is mad about this stuff)
Sponge scourers
Sandwich bags
Apple sauce
Sage and onion stuffing
Yorkshire puddings (because every time I try to make my own I end up with something resembling a tray of beermats)
Flour
Low fat desserts
Little un-iced fairy cakes, pack of 12 (I realise I could make these myself, but like to keep a packet in reserve for the younger kids to decorate when I need something to alleviate their boredom or keep them busy at a moment's notice. Fifty-odd pence plus a bit of icing and sugar strands won't break the bank yet)
Instant whip
Instant custard
Jelly
Basically, wherever there's a SP alternative, I'm thereThe only one I've tried so far and not liked are SP chicken portions, which were a bit... chewy. I've also bought SP pillows, wine glasses and cutlery, and love the little nine pence SP notebooks which are great for carrying in a handbag or pocket, or for scattering around the house in places such as the kitchen so that the family can leave me touching little notes like 'Don't buy those @%*$! SP chicken pieces again!'
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature! :eek:0 -

Question - can i make up a batch of angel delight (the SP equivialant anyway!) and pour it into lolly moulds to freeze for DD? Sort of like a milk lolly?
I buy (usually Asda SP but sometimes Tesco Value)
Cheddar cheese
low fat toffee yoghurts
porridge oats (for baking mainly)
tinned toms (unless Napolina or whatever they're called are on offer - once got 12 tins for £2.28!)
tinned red kidney beans
baked beans
pan scrubs and brillo pads
scotch pancakes
crumpets
* Used to buy SP pure orange juice but it's now 58p a carton but you can buy a 4pk of Asda's pure OJ for £2.32 therefore working out to the same price and the 4pks are on offer at 2 for £4 so it works out to 50p a carton.*
Can't think of anything else but theres lots i'm going to try thanks to this thread!
Thanx

Hi, the value soya milk is nice but slightly sweet. Don't buy it now as I'm allowed dairy stuff now and prefer real milk.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0
