The value nappies are quite good, but unfortunately our eldest lad is too big for them, so we have to get the next batch up (he's still in nappies at night).

    Tesco Value Bananas :T
  • Hi

Just tried the Tesco Value Sardines, 14p as opposed to 35p for the own brand version. The value sardines are larger so there are less to a can (2 as opposed to three), but no difference in overall weight, quantity of fish or the amount of sauce. Given that I mash them on toast, no difference! The downside is that the price of Tesco White Bread Flour has gone up, so the toast costs more. One step forward.....
  • We have been buying value for a few years now - it makes me laugh when I first started I was a bit embarressed about all the blue stripe - was always a brand girl - hence DMP!! I now can wizz round tesco and have alot of Blue stripe and I'm proud!!! - we like:-
Loo Roll - no one complains anymore and as 3 year old likes to trail it round the house its ok!!
    Snowballs
    Teacakes
    Borbons
    Custard Creams
    Crisps
    Potato Hoops
    Strawberry yoghurt
    Tuna
    Sweetcorn
    Chopped Tomoatoes
    Self Raising flour
    Plain flour
Eggs (we get through alot baking cakes)
    Gravy powder
    Pasta
However I must admit shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and washing powder is still at Tesco level rather than value.

I know I really shouldn't moan, cos 44p is still cheap, but a huge jump from around 28p last time I bought value tuna from asda. it is still just as good as any 'brand' tuna.

Mr T value is the same, its something like 78p now  but still cheaper than any branded ones.

I bought Mr T Value Sage & onion stuffing this week for a miserly 14p a 250g packet. Haven't made it up as stuffing per se, but its lovely sprinkled on top of pasta bake etc instead of breadcrumbs.

I am constantly amazed by the variation in value tinned tomatoes. Lidl are always fine, Mr T and Mr S both occasionally go through phases of giving you ones with the skins partially still on. Still, its the work of a minute to remove the skin and use as normal. I tend to chop them anyway, as like a previous poster I don't see the point in wasting the extra 2p on ready chopped when its so quick to DIY. I know its only 2p but still
  • Sainsbury value fruit cocktail is better than Asdas so are their baked beans.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I am buying more and more Tesco value much to DS (11) dismay!! We have just been to havens holiday camp in a caravan last week thanks to clubcard! However won,t repeat that again. Did a quick tesco shop there and most of what we bought was value bread, fine for toast, peanut butter, very nice although I can't find tesco own brand peanut butter anywhere at the moment and my tescos only has sunpat at 2.20:eek: and no value stuff! strawberry jam, value strong cheese, removed the packaging so no one here knew it was value. As far as DS is concerned I just remove the packaging were possible. Also has some value tinned custard which is very good. I will try anything to reduce the budget at the moment. We also bulk buy from costcos beans, tinned tomatoes. I have noticed that our local tesco is selling more discounted brands and less value. Funny thing is DS has not got a problem with that especially the oakleaf tomato ketchup! The only thing I have tried and not liked is the tea bags, cereal and meat ( use the butcher) although value corned beef is yummy.
