Sorry if I've missed any mention of this further up the thread:

Do any of the supermarket value brands do frozen peas that are similar in quality to the ordinary store's own brand? I'm never buying Tesco Value peas again because I tried them once and they were like bullets (the taste was OK, it was just the texture - they made good soup, which was the only palatable way I could find to use them up).

I have access to all major supermarkets and would be grateful if somebody could point me in the direction of cheap and tasty peas.

Do they need to be frozen? We like Tesco Value tinned peas.

Oooh - never had tinned ones. Are they garden peas or marrowfat?

Interesting thread this! I decided to do a Sainsbury's basic shop on Tuesday out of need because my pay has been delayed!
Basic white bread - Fine, although not desperately fresh...
Basic tomato pasta sauce - Really tasty! As good, if not better that the likes of Dolmio and Ragu. Only 24p a jar. I'll be switching for good.
Basic cooked sliced ham - Tasty. I liked it more that the wafer thin stuff I'd normally buy. Swapping permanently.
Basic fruit yoghurts - Fine again. But rather watery. Totally fine for lunch boxes.

I'll be trying more value stuff again, as I was very impressed.
Because it's fun to have money!

Has anyone noticed value lines are getting difficult to find in MrT? Several of our favourites--as much for taste as price--are no longer available. The strawberry ice cream sauce could perhaps be seasonal but all the others are still on sale, but that doesn't explain the yoghurts

    Crikey - Mr S 4p curry sauce is now TWENTY-THREE P!

Wotta ripoff, got to say. I know it's a loss leader, but they might as well just take it off the shelves if they really want us to buy the pricey stuff (as they do). Rather than just creep and creep the price up, as if we're not going to notice!

Is it still cheap anywhere else?

Value pure orange juice, tastes the same as leading brands (but much much cheaper). Oh and Value UHT long life milk which I purchase in case I can't get to the shops tastes the same as other long life milk. Oh and value chopped tomotoes/plum tomatoes are brilliant to use in bolognaise, chili's etc etc.

i tried the smart price golden veg and the chicken rice in a packet the other day. Once cooked it was like a mini risotto. Very nice and of course a cheap meal for 1

Sorry if this has already been posted but we really like the Tesco Value chicken wings, chicken drumsticks, they're really big packs and they're always really tasty. We can get enough meat off one pack of say the drumsticks (there's just two of us) for two meals easy.

We also like the value beef burgers, they do shrink quite a bit but they're okay. I love the little fromage frais yogurts as well.
