Tesco Value Beetroot £0.20 per jar - Ten out of ten for me. I shouldn't say this as the Sir Terry's Tesco Stasi no doubt read this thread but it has been the same price for about 3 years.

No doubt all of a sudden the Peruvians will suck up all of the worlds beetroot production causing Tesco to increase it by 600%

i tried the smart price golden veg and the chicken rice in a packet the other day. Once cooked it was like a mini risotto. Very nice and of course a cheap meal for 1

I virtually live on these for lunch! Very tasty!

I always used to buy Coleman's English Mustard, but in Morrisons now they only do the large ones in sqeezy pots (which I hate), so I tried Morrison's own English Mustard and I can't tell the difference so will buy that from now on.

What are Morrisons value products like?

Our Morrisons opened at the beginning of November, but has never sold value stuff. Until yesterday, when a small section that used to have xmas tins of biscuits and sweets was stocked with value stuff.

Not much there ATM, tinned tomatoes (33p) tomato soup, a few types of biscuits and big bags of assorted toffees.

I'm planning on making my own spag sauce on Saturday, first time ever and using recipes from here. But should I use the expensive tins of nappy whatsits that I already have, or buy these value ones and keep the expensive ones for something else?

I lurrrrve Tesco value liver pate :) yum yum.
to be honest, I cant see the difference between most value brands and the more expensive options. One thing I won't buy is value loo roll.......... you may get more rolls for less, but you end up using more!

`but should I use the expensive tins of nappy whatsits`.....uhhh!!

I personally like Morrisons above Tesco and Sainsburys.

I like their fruit and veg and the way it is presented rather than throw in bins.

I find they are cheaper as well over all.

I buy their value orange juice, tinned tomatoes, tinned mushrooms, value choc biscuits.

BUT... i have the opposite problem!!! i have always bought value loo roll and if by chance there is a good offer on the expensive stuff and i buy that then everyone still uses loads because they are used to the value stuff!!!!!

what i do now is if i do end up with expensive loo roll i hide it and use it to blow my nose instead of tissues!!!
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:
  • the main thing I'm not looking forward to about me and OH moving back in with parents is that mum does shopping at morrisons, I'm a tesco fan and have always hated morrisons! the only thing I like is that they sell boxes of prawn crackers to fry yourself and I can't find them anywhere else. Tescos is much better, we almost live on Mr T value or the new "discount brand" stuff. Mum can be a bit snobby so thinking of making a couple of meals with only value ingredients to show her how good they can be!

Problem is that morrisons is 2 mins away at mums whereas the big tescos is the other end of the city and its so big she always ends up spending loads!

I have noticed that the tesco value salt and vinegar crisps (omigod these were gorgeous!) and the value strawberry desserts have vanished in more recent weeks :( and the value white bread has gone from 25p up to 45p!!

I think a lot of people are going to be forced to buy value things and I don't understand the snobbery about things like that. If you are in debt can you really afford to spend £1.50 on something thats 45p and tastes EXACTLY the same!!

My local Morrisons has done the same thing - well, they always did sell the value brand, but now they've got a bank of shelves with loads of value stuff in the same place.

I haven't used many of them, but I do regularly buy their value fizzy water (same as any other) and single portion noodles (ditto). Another thing I have found in Morrisons is that some of their own-brand staple items are similar in price to Tesco Value even if they aren't actually the Morrisons value brand - porridge oats was the thing I noticed the other day.
