  • I've just had a delicious lunch of a new sainsburys basics product - fresh mushroom tortellini!! They come in a massive bag - would probably feed 3 or 4 people (although being a pig and just come back from the gym starved, I ate half) and they're pretty tasty. I normally buy the ordinary sains tortellini - these are way cheaper, and I suppose you can tell a little bit but for the money you save (if i remember rightly about £1 or so) they are definitely worth it!
  • I love smart price crunchy peanut butter on toast, yum! But tried sp hazelnut chocolate spread and it's not nice at all....kids moaned, then I tried it, too..... milky flavour.

MrS does a basic tin of mushrooms, they are 36p a tin, I also have them in as a stand by, and as they are only in water, I don't worry about the added salt that comes in some of the other tins.

Thanks Shezza and Raspberry Swirl, I haven't managed to get to Tesco yet but Asda have SP tinned mushrooms in water for 29p so I guess I'll just have to bulk buy these as and when I can. I don't use them a lot but they are good to have in the cupboards for when I can't get fresh mushrooms.

  • I have shopped at Sainsury my last two shops and found their basic range very good.

We have had the curry sauce (4p) pasta sauce (23p) the beans and speghetti were fine and the dried pasta shapes. I also buy the basic dog food and mix it in with the more expensive one and the puppy loves it.

I tried tesco value instant noodles yesterday for the first time. Curry flavour, perfectly edible as an emergency instant lunch :)
Also recently bought the "market" value baking potatoes, which (after having to check through the bags as a couple looked like had manky spud in them) were great and I think only 80-90p for 2.5kg. However if I can will always buy Roosters which over here are branded and cost a fortune as opposed to in Ireland where they are as common as white potatoes and as cheap as... chips :D here they are about £1/kg but are SOOOOOOO fluffy and floury and delicious!
  • we love the value custard at around 8p.:T

so far have tried morrisons, tesco's and asda. so easy to make as just have to boil water and whisk. it makes something like bananas into a proper pudding and is also excellent when someone has left the lid off the choc cake and it has gone a bit dry!

i now buy about 5 packets a week as oh is happy to just have this custard if he runs out of yoghurt or just fancies something sweet :T
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:
  • We tried the baked beans from Aldi's last night but found them too sweet, we do like morrison's own bb though. We have found the oaties from aldi's better the hobnobs and their chocolate digestives are fine.
