Sainsbury's Basics ham is very good value at 70p for 15 (quite thin) slices. I use two slices per sandwich and it is really nice, not too fatty at all.

Their Basics cheese spread is disgusting though.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Tesco do a Value tin of Curry Sauce (4p - yes 4p!!!) which my son can't get enough of. He just adds some chicken (Tesco's frozen Value Chicken Breasts - about £3 for a big bag and some rice (Value again) and he's happy. It also goes well on chips for a very cheap occasional treat.
Asda is closer to us, but I have found they have started to do less value stuff (or not buy in as much so by the time I get there it is all gone and have to buy the more expensive stuff). So now I make the extra 2 mile journey to Tescos who seem to have most items in a Value option - and they give me clubcard points (I like being rewarded for loyaly) and free stuff. Last week I got a free big box of Kellogs cornflakes for spending £30 (a few weeks ago it was a packet of 80 PG tip tea bags and Maryland biscuits) and 5p off every litre of petrol for spending £50. As my shopping is normally about £80 I split my shopping into 2 lots the first around £50 so I can get the free offer and petrol voucher and then £30 to get another free offer - 2 free boxes of "posh" cornflakes, my family think we've won the lottery! LOL

I always but Basics or Value flour. When I first moved in with Mr LW he had a branded one in the cupboard, and frankly, I can't tell the difference:confused: My cakes and pastries seem to turn out fine using the cheapie sort.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I also use value flour, perhaps because I go through so much. Also jus made tomato, bacon and lentil soup with value tinned tomatos, tastes really nice. Usually buy as I often need to use 2/3 tins and can't really taste difference as with sauces, other stuff tends to get thrown in. I also buy couple of value jellies a week and value Doritoes are nice crushed in a pasta bake, or handful for kids packs.:)
    Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.
    Grocery challenge july £300/£134-85.

Has anyone tried Tesco Value Chicken and Vegetable Pies? Try to avoid value meat but was tempted by the price too much! (74p for 4 pies!) Along with a few boiled potatoes and veg - thats 2 meals for me an OH. :-)

I tried the pies a few years back and they were'nt nice.
  • Beware of things that claim to be 'value' and aren't!! I wanted dried apricots today - the value ready to eat were 99p for 250 g and the Tesco non-value ready to eat were 1.88 for 500g!!
  • Sainsbury's Basics Sweet and Sour sauce is 26p and it's not bad, like a lot of sauces you need to add veg to pad it out.

Also the basics Chocolate Desert Mix tastes just like Angel Delight, it's only about 8p too
