Following on from the Co-op's value items I posted a couple of days ago, yesterday I bought evaporated milk (to go in the porridge at breakfast!) and theirs is just as good as Carnation's with the large tin just 3p dearer than Carnation's smallest tin; it will last three times as long.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

There's loads of shops popping up around Glasgow, I thought it was a UK wide chain?
Think I'll give their mince a try for starters, watch this space0 -

Sainsburys basic salmon is really nice. It is in odd shaped pieces but fine for my dd who likes it to make Japanese food. Also the basic frozen prawn. I put them in my sandwiches for work while still frozen and they are just right by break time. Still on a fishy theme the frozen basic fish is good value and proper fish fillets.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Sainsburys Basics chunky peanut butter is lovely - IMO it is nicer than Sunpat. I have also recently discovered Sainsburys Basics instant mashed potato. I bought it because I wanted to make cheese and onion pasties and didn't have enough money for potatoes and saw this for 31p for a huge bag of the stuff. I made it and mixed it with a bit of onion salt, some chives and some grated mature cheese and then made pasties with some McDougalls 12p puff pastry mix and they were lovely. Kids and their friends raved about them. I also use the mashed potato for thickening soups instead of flour, and also add a tbs of dry mix to mashed carrot and swede if it looks a bit watery.Jane
