At local Asda their jars of smart price curry sauce were 4p today. Havn't tried it yet but as only me likes curry and I am not a fussy eater it should be alright. Someone at Asda must read this thread and be worried that we were all going tho Sainsbugs.
They are great. We use leftover chicken from a roast and add the sauce to microwave rice for a brilliant mild curry.

Asda's SmartPrice Chilli, Bolognese, and Casserole sauces aren't bad either. For anybody who likes their chilli 'HOT' I would recommend adding extra chilli powder/paprika/cayenne pepper to it - but I'm a mild/medium person and it suits me just fine - I also add some extra beans (kidney or mixed whatever I've got to hand) depending on how much minced beef I'm using.

The SP curry sauce was 6p a few weeks ago and then got put up to 26p (its original price) - so it's good to see it go back down again :D. Time to stock up again, methinks :D.

Just have to say how much this thread has helped me over the last few months. Money has been getting tighter and tighter and the only thing in my budget i could cut back on was my grocery shopping and i cant belive what a difference it has made. Nowadays 90% of my food shopping is from the value range. I've done it slowly so not to scare OH and tbh you can hardly tell the difference on most stuff. This time last last year i was easily spending £250 to £350 a month on food for me OH and toddler (ok baby then n tinned milk costing a fortune was included in that) now i generally spend £100 to £140 a month.
Value stuff i buy regularly...Tinned toms, beans, squash (loads better now), cheese, baguettes, bread buns, spagheitti (tinned) spaghetti (dried), lasagne sheets, pasta tubes, rice, chocolate, crisps, fromage frais, eggs, meat, spuds, veg, bananas (not keen on apples tho), teabags (took some getting used to but not as bad as some people make out. My friend is a typhoo snod and could'nt tell the difference!), noodles, pitta, flour plain and sr,pasta sauce, batter mix and cake mix. On occasion i have bought loo roll but doesnt seem to last half as long as tesco's own brand, maybe its just me. Not yet ventured into toiletries range but will be once my stash has ran out.
Have finally converted my mum to the value range and in the process of trying to convert my friend. She has just bought a house, in quite a lot of debt and spend £150 a week:eek: on food for her and her OH:eek: . I coludnt even dream of spending that much money again on food, mind you £25 of her budget each wk is just for prawns too!!!!!!!

Avoid the Tesco Value toaster! The slots are too small for most slices of bread (so you have a slice of toast with bread down one side! Or have to buy specific loaves of bread.) and the elements only get hot in the middle, so you can end up with burnt patches very easily.

However I do like Tesco Value Lemon Curd, it goes a little bit runny but the texture when it is spread on toast is lovely and the taste is nice and strong.
Just a little note, in case you didn't know - Tesco were selling Gales lemon curd for 20p, which is almost half the price of TV.

My cupboards look so odd with all the blue stripes, and then the branded stuff - my family will be thinking I've taken a funny turn :rotfl: :rotfl:

The red chilli powder that tesco sell in their world foods section is hot - you know, the ones in the big jars, they were about £1-2 when I bought them! I almost blew my head off the first time I tried it :o
