The majority of any of the supermarkets value/basics ranges only things we really did not like was the baked beans in any store, and some cereals so stepped back up to own brand.

HAve used value/basics laundry powder ever since they came onto the market, we are lucky as a family in that none of us have any skincomplaints so can do this.

As and when i see a new value product if it is something we would have bought a branded or own brand I get one for us to try and see what we think.

Have been putting value ketchup into the old squeezy heinz one for over a year now and no-one has noticed.

Obviously if the own brand or even branded is cheaper then I will buy that, and if a product is on a too good to miss offer I will buk buy and stock up.

My boys love vlaue pasta mixed with basics mayo and value/basics tuna. This is kept in a bowl in the fridge and they can help themselves if peckish.

We do prefer Mr S basics for chopped tinned toms (like passata), mayonaisse, cream cheese.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

I've been gradually switching from branded down to value goods and my advice would be to do it slowly one level at a time.

OH was very attached to Listerine mouthwash but after some persuading I got him to try the Asda own brand and he was happy with it (although it doesn't have the punch of Listerine) as it was much cheaper. This shop I've ordered the Tesco value mouthwash to try and the first thing he did when the shop arrived was to compare the ingredients and they are pretty well the same so he's happy with Tesco value.

I don't think he would have gone branded to value in one go but over a couple of months he's made a pretty big switch.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the Fairy Degreaser advertised by Ainsley Harriet is fab - Lidls own is just as fab and half the price. Ditto their glass cleaner/jif type stuff etc.

The only thing I don't like is the washing powder. It brings us up in hive type things.

Mr T value things I'll buy:

    lasagne sheets
    spaghetti (not tinned :-))
    caramel wafers
mozzarella cheese - good for pizzas and about 49p
    peppers
    onions
oats - to make flapjacks etc with (I like scotts ones for porridge in the winter!)
    self raising & plain flours
plain & milk choc for using as choc chips in muffins
    garlic bread
ready grated cheese in a big bag!

umm- can't think of anything else. Tried the pizzas but didn't like the bases :-( Don't like the tinned toms as they always have bits of skin in (and I really like the Napolina ones, but always stockpile them at BOGOF)

Mushrooms are ok if you are using all in one go (eg stroganoff or something) but I found they went slimy within a couple of days otherwise :-(

I have bought the juices for kids party and they were fine :-)

Asda SP sweet & sour sauce in a jar, although it can be a bit too gingery

Things I would definitely NOT buy :-)
    eggs
    chicken
    ham
    mince
    bread
    squash
    toiletries
    cleaning products

some from a taste point, others from a moral/ ethical/ environmental point (actually, chicken and eggs are from all points!)

The Value squash has greatly improved, its now the double concentrate and having bought the normal Tesco brand double concentrate squash I did a blind taste test on my family. They thought they were the same.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

I buy the value mushrooms & peppers & now freeze them! I use what I need to raw for salad , but then some get sliced & the rest diced, bagged up into portion-type sizes & frozen as is.

Quick & easy enough to throw some into a casserole, bolognaise, shep pie etc as & when required, cuz they cook from frozen.

I've since read that peeps do the same thing with onions, carrot & broc so that will be my next adventure:p ...once I've figured how to let out the side seams on the freezer that is:D

Has anyone tried the ground value coffee? Was eyeing it up the other day but thought I'd ask the experts (you) first!

I like it! It is very very mild and not entirely coffee like tho, it's a bit like having a coffee type drink! If I want proper coffee I get the caffetiere out! Still value coffee is nice, sort of like having a flavoured tea instead of real tea iyswim?

Don't like value tea though, as my mil puts it, it tastes like the sweepings off the floor - she has a way with words ;)
