The SP kitchen towel is fine, 79p (I think) for 4 rolls, compared to almost £2.00 something for the branded stuff (it's only for wiping up spills etc.... after all!) and the custard creams are the nicest I've ever tried
H is, most annoyingly, a bit of a brand snob so I'm going to try the tomato sauce next week and decant it into the empty heinz bottle and see if he notices
He's always insisted on John West tuna and last week I ignored this and bought Asda's own..... didn't tell him, hid in at the back of the fridge..... served it up the other night and he didn't notice the difference at all!
Sorry for taking this slightly OTbut he does annoy me on this issue - it's all very well wanting branded 'this' and branded 'that'. We can NOT afford all this branded stuff, so deal with it buster!
You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

Does anyone know if they still do Asda smartprice 'weetabix'? Used to be 45p for a pack and was far superior to weetabix and shops own. Not been able to get it in our 2 local stores for about a year. I notice its been replaced by sunnybix in ours, which is awful.0

I switched to shopping mainly at Asda about three months ago, we're planning a move for next year and our nearest decent supermarket will be an Asda 30 miles away so I switched so that I could get used to the products as I'll need to bulk buy for around 5 or 6 weeks and I'll need to keep costs down.
I've been quite impressed with Asda Smartprice products, I'd bought some Tesco & Sainsbury value and basics in the past but some years ago when I tried stuff most of it was pretty nasty. Asda seem to have lots of ingredients in their SP range and as we don't buy much in the way of processed food and the ingredients have pretty well been very good. Their SP fruit and fibre is great (so is Sainsburys though), I can't have Asda SP soya as it's got lots of cruddy stuff in it whereas Sainsbury's and Tesco is pretty pure.
So far, so good, I've saved a bit of money, OH isn't entirely convinced but is coming round to the idea and neither of us is particularly snobby about brands these days - we're too poor to have much choice really!Piglet

SP chips I great, I think. Don't really mind about black bits as you don't notice when cooked and they are a lot healthier than branded ones.
SP sardines are - according to OH - horrible but they are only 16p so what do you expect, probably fine for putting in pasta bakes or something though.
Tesco value jaffa cakes are better than real ones IMO
SP washing powder I find doesn't clean really dirty stuff like bibs and cloths but maybe I don't put enough in.
Value cornflakes taste too much of corn IMO!
SP fruit and veg all fine, bananas great where as I find tesco value bananas to be awful!
SP and Value tinned tomatoes obviously!
SP beans I think taste better than value but I did have a bad tin the other day - weird colour and horrible smell - but since braved again and they were fine.
Basically, try one of each, if you like it buy more next time, if you really can't stand it then don't buy again!!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Ditto the Smart Price biscuits. I think they're just as good as branded ones if not better.
I nearly bought the SP ketchup on Friday but DH being a label snob opted for the next one up . Will give it a go though next time.
SP tuna chunks are good. Not to impressed with tuna flakes though. Not much in them.
I'm on the start with SP and if you really don't like it work up wagon as well. However won't change my Kenco coffee or my Allinson bread for any one.0 -
Hi there  I'll add this to the existing thread on value ranges, to keep ideas together.

I've recently been buying Asda's Smart Price Bio Washing Powder. I'm fairly sure its £1.41 and its for a 3kg box and 30 washes - although I make it stretch further. I've been adding fabric conditioner, which I don't normally do and it seems fine to me. Their fabric conditioner is dead cheap too.
But does anyone know where the 13p/14p washing up liquids have gone. None in my Asda now and I tried Morrison's yesterday - none there either. I'm going to try Somerfield and Tesco's (don't know if Sainsbury's ever did one) but does anyone know where I can find them now as I'm reluctant to spend more now I've been using them for 6 months or so.
Also really cheesed off that Nouvelle toilet rolls have disappeared from the Pound Shop. 25p per roll was great and I'm having trouble finding anything near that - got 12 of Asda's own for 33.3p per roll. Though I'm still getting my extra large kitchen rolls in the 99p shop - great for storing and they last ages.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

Another fan of SmartPrice Bio washing powder here. It works fine for me - but I don't use it for grandkids clothese as two of them have eczema.
I do buy the Asda own Fabric Conditioner and not the SP one. Though I have been known to get the SP one on desperately skint months.
I also buy the SmartPrice liquid cleaner, cream cleaner and toilet cleaner (I decant the toilet cleaner into a different bottle though so it can be directed under the rim). Have just stopped buying the 'nice' Asda washing up liquid and swapped it for the ordinary 44p one. It would have lasted for two weeks, only for OH. He's done the dishes a few times in the last couple of weeks and loves his bubbles   .0
