I'm conducting an experiment with myself (!) at the moment..... I'm determined to try at least 1 smart price item per week.
Last week's was bacon and OMG.....a complete sucess!! It was lovely. It's not as 'tidy' looking as the normal bacon but it tasted lovely and I'll definitely be buying it again. 99p for 6 slices - can't argue with that, compared to £2.28 for the normal Asda stuff.
This week's item is toilet roll....... I'm a bit dubious, but willing to give it a go!You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

I use Value Cleaning products and laundry products, I think they work well and do the job of keeping my house clean. Value toilet rolls, hair conditioner is great think it was 10p works just as well as a £1.99 bottle,
Value Noodles kids loves these as a snack.
Value Garlic bread, white bread, pitta bread,

Beans,spag,toms, all good.

If not buying organic/free range (you know what I'm getting at there I'm sure) there is not reason why you should not at least TRY the value/basic/smart price ranges that are out there. Alot of the time they taste just the same, some are healthier which is shocking, and do not cost you a fortune.
I've found the cheapest coffee to be rank but I'm going to buy it again and mix it with the one I like to see if it makes a difference. If it works it will strech the coffee out more and cost WAY less :T . I'm very picky on coffee though so this may not work but worth a try with other people I'm sure.
I can buy the asda smart price digestives and not get complaints from anyone about them (apart from my dad who is a digestive snob :rotfl: ), no one notices the difference of the rich teas either.
It's all a matter of taste but if you try it and you like it then it's better for you I'd say. If not then it's not as much wasted than if it had been the next one up.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
i buy alot of value stuff - recently basics as my mum was helping me shop after surgery before going home and sainsburies was on the way - current fuel climate i could not make her drive the extra miles to tesco. she seemed genuinly shocked by the amount of basics or own brand i piled into the trolly! i had to tell her i was the only way i could get by for the month and pay my bills and mortgage for the month - she also seemed supprised i purchased free range eggs (yes D&G i know exctly what you mean) one of the things i wont buy is battery eggs. hopefully mum has realised that a lot of the stuff she eats at mine is value and that she has not noticed and will start to try it for herself!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I tried value stir fry veg the other day, was lovely 91p a bag (and I would have had to buy a load of things if I was going to make it myself, that wouldn't have got used up really-cabbage etc only need a little for stir fry)
And I buy value peppers when you can get them with no green (its so variable isn't it-the other day there were loads with 2 or 3 greens and then some with only red and yellow:j
I do not like green peppers except in certain circumstances-beef with green pepper and black bean sauce comes to mind0 -
I use a lot of value stuff - I particulary like T's tortilla chips at 18p a packet. Use value sweetcorn, tomatoes, kidney beans when making chilli etc.
I have to say that I will no longer buy value eggs or meat. I buy it from the reduced shelf and freeze or use it that day. I also try to steer clear of premade meals that are probably made from cheap meat as well - better homemade anyway. I guess it isn't really a 'treat' but I'd rather know the meat I was eating was free range. I wouldn't enjoy it otherwise.I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j

I'm very lucky to have a partner who's no snob and as financially aware as I am - we've tried and tested the majority of the tescos value range!
Things that are good: :j
Value biscuits (bourbons esp!)
All the value fruit and veg (a bit oddly shaped sometimes but just as tasty when its all cooked up)
Value yoghurts
Value noodles
Value bleach, cloths, sponges for washing up etc
Value meats - (tend to be cheaper cuts that need long slow cooking, and require a bit of effort trimming the fat etc but with a bit of work they're really delicious)
Value shower gel
Value loo roll is fine! A 12 pack costs around the £1 mark and lasts the two of us a good month!
Value tinned sweetcorn, veg, beans, tomatoes etc - all fine
Things to avoid unless you're very stuck:
Value washing powder / washing up liquid
Value bread - make your own instead!
Value cooked ham
Value pittas
That's all I can think of off the top of my head but if anybody is considering trying something and wants an opinion just post it - I've probably tried it at some point!!!0 -
Will buy
Value tinned tomatoes
Value Sweetcorn
Value Kitchen roll
Value fruit, so long as you want to eat it soon
Value spuds
Value bread, if its for toast
Value pasta
Value rice - sometimes a bit grey but who can tell in curry.
Won't buy - don't like
Value beans
Value meat - unless its mince or chicken thighs for casserolesDebts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
