Have only just been converted to trying value brands and so far have really liked:
Tescos value lasagne sheets 31p as good if not better than the more expensive ones
Tescos value shower gel 10p. I am crafty here and decant it in to an empty branded container and my teenage boys know no different.
Tescos value sweet and sour sauce really nice
Tescos value brown and tomato sauce. We really can't taste any difference between them and the branded ones
Tescos value stock cubes If anything are more flavoursome than the branded
hope this helps;)

Well we've had our first real value failure. Value meatballs have been given a big thumbs down by my meatball connoisseur DD. I have to say when I opened the can they did smell pretty revolting. The cat is presently wolfing down the half can that I can't in all decency put in front of DD again LOL.
And pet lovers, yes I know there's probably too much salt in it for the cat, but I figured once wouldn't kill her and she normally eats Iams, so she isn't exactly hard done-by!
Must be a matter of taste, my 2 little monkeys love Tesco value meatballs. I know what you mean about the smell - reminiscent of kitty kat (sp - do they still make this? when I was a kid it was a pinkish sloppy goo - but the cat seemed to like it.

I agree with the tomato sauce, we tried Asda's version once - it was unanimously voted OUT.

Dont usually shop at Sainsbugs but after all the praise re their basics popped in yesterday. The basic bickies are as good as everyone says [choc digestives are IMHO better than branded one]. But here is a real hidden gem Sainsbury's basics White bread rolls 24p for 12. Absolutely delicious. They are light and floury, just like a good bread bap should be.
Our house has now had the great Instant custard awards:beer: . Will announce the results in the time honoured reverse order.
No 3 Asda Smart Price result Ugggggggggg
No 2 Sains Basics result passable
No 1 WINNER:T Mr T's Value basics nearly as good as proper custard powder.:T0 -

i agree with value/basics biscuits once they are in the tin or on the plate who can tell the difference. i started buying value biscuits and my brother (who buys macvities) was questioning my judgement - but if i unwrap them and put them in the biscuit tin he does not notice - handed him a mixed plate of biscuits a few months ago to get his oppinion (i was hosting a coffee morning to raise church funds) he thought i was mad as all biscuits were fine - didnt tell the great biscuit conisour that they were all value!! why pay 89p for mcvities when you can buy value for 26p in a blind test whats the difference!!
:Twe like them!! i do the shopping and charge him acordingly - so his bill goes down!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
My kids and oh love Asda's sp midget gems,at 27p they are a cheap treat.bye hoo0

I have found the packs of 4 biscuits (shortcake, custard cream, bourbon and malted milk)from Mr A to be nicer than any others,I think they are about 86p. My only problem is keeping them in the biscuit jar as the kids (and me!) can't leave them alone!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

I know it's not food but Sainsbury's basic soap is very good. 15p for 4 bars! OK for body washing and great for making laundry gloop.
