I'm trying a few value things each week to see what we reckon to them. So far we like value crisps (DD asks for these in preference - they are less greasy and less salty than the regular ones) and value chocolate mousse. We have been less impressed with value fromage frais (strange texture) and value curry sauce (just a bit meh, really), but both are perfectly good, just not as nice as more expensive stuff. I'll probably use the value sauce as a base and add extra sultanas, chilli etc, to butch it up a bit.

One thing I've been doing with the value crisps is getting my daughter (who is learning to read ) to try and read the snack flavours. A big advantage is that she can't rely on the colours as the packaging is all the same. We make a game out of it and she enjoys doing it. Value stuff as a learning aid that could be a whole new marketing thing.

I like looking on mysupermarket too, & it's surprising what you can find out.

My advice is to look at the price per....100g, kg etc.....to find the true best price. Surprisingly it is not always the value item.

  • Has anyone tried the Asda Smartprice washing powder and fabric softener? If so what do you think of them?

This thread is fab - I use a lot of Tesco's own products including loo roll, non-bio tablets, washing up liquid, Choc & Nut cones, tinned petit pois, mozerella, free range eggs, vegetable oil, pasta, and bacon crisps - to name a few! I don't buy any of these branded unless it's on offer and works out cheaper. Just to confirm - I buy the Tesco's own, not the value ranges.

Does anyone know - is there a cheaper Cathedral City about?!? We cannot live without Cathedral City cheese and I have not yet found a cheaper alternative.... Thanks in advance!
